Yakuza

Where would be an acceptable place in the series
to get into these games, for a non weeb.

I have 4 and 5 "free" on ps3 from ps+
could probably buy 3 off of ebay.

If you really want the first 3 games and not having to pay a stupid price on ebay, you can get some factory sealed and brand new from a Canadian webstie

link?

It's always release order when it comes to this question. That's the only way you get incremental improvement in gameplay.

Yakuza 0

Couldn't remember the site right away
videogamesplus.ca/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=yakuza&x=0&y=0

Here it is user

the first one

Honestly, its a great deal for 1-4 for that price..If I had the spare money/a ps3 I would buy it

>170 Canadian bucks for 4 yakuza games

im in US, do they ship it here?

Top of the site says free world wide shipping, so Yes

Hack your PS3, play 1-5, then buy a PS4 and play 0 and 6.

Yes, I bought my 1-4 set from them, live in Wisconsin. They're a big name site that's been in business for like 20 years.

And yes, the copies are legit. Sega put them out themselves. The discs, manuals and art inserts are identical to the first run copies.

thanks dude, saved me 100 bucks since i was planing to get the whole series

is 5 good btw? heard it was bad like 6

yes, 5 is great..The "worst" part is the baseball if anything,You get to be a pretty teenage girl idol in tight clothing, you know you like it

Also, no problem on saving the money user, enjoy them

0,its a prequel in a story heavy series with many recurring characters

wait i'm in bongistan that link was dead to me, but it said yakuza kiwami.
so they are remaking the 1st yakuza game?
That would be the best place to start I gather.
Yakuza 1 and 2 are PS2 games so quite dated.

Eh, the story in these games is fucking retarded so just forget about it, start anywhere, punch guys, play pachinko and sing karaoke
(I think they start getting really good at 4 but you don't play as the main character of the other games in that one so it could be very confusing)

>so they are remaking the 1st yakuza game?
yes, look at this video for more info
youtube.com/watch?v=HtiixXPHbUY
it's coming out this august for £23 in the UK, steelbook edition is the same price

3 has a summary of the first two games, or you could wait for Yakuza Kiwami to come out, beat that then:
>get 3
>read summary to 2
>play 3
>play 4
>play 5
>play 0
>play 6
You can also play 0 then Kiwami, or get 1 and 2 for PS2 as they recently got reprinted and are about $50 each.

Release order nigger. This applies to 99% of franchises.

this
>wait for Yakuza Kiwami to come out, beat that then:
if I like the story and gameplay
>play 0
>read summary to 2 and/or watch a utub vid
>play 3
>play 4
>play 5
>play 6

of course but not so simple when 2 of the games are ancient and I would have to find a PS2 or emulate them/
The HD remakes for the PS3 are only released in nipland too

Why not play 0 then Kiwami? Kiwami's ending will have a bigger impact that way.

what is the difference in the games?
I know 0 is a prequel but if it's got different gameplay and story then it's counter productive to me trying to get into the series.

I just got into the series as well OP. Beat Yakuza 1 about a month ago via emulator and working on 2. Picked up 3, 4, and 0 to play.

I am seriously debating just looking up a lets play for Yakuza 2 for the story bits though. For some reason Yakuza 2 emulates a lot worse then 1 and has these random ass lines that appear in annoying spots no matter how much I tweak it.

So when 6 and Kiwami come out in the US, will they have physical releases like 1, 2, 3, 4 and 0 did, or will Sega arbitrarily be faggot shitters again like with 5?

0, while having characters from the previous games, is fairly standalone when compared to 5 and 6. The gameplay doesn't really differ much from the PS3 games aside from styles and 60fps.

>So when 6 and Kiwami come out in the US, will they have physical releases like 1, 2, 3, 4 and 0 did, or will Sega arbitrarily be faggot shitters again like with 5?
Kiwami already has a release date and steelbook announced. Sony funded 5 and 0 sold well enough in the west to warrant localizing 6 for early 2018.

Even to Brazil
I know it says worldwide on top o the site but this is just too good to be true

so would you say if i wanted to at least try out the game before i get committed, it would be okay to start with 0

fuck it, just bought yakuza 0
will buy kiwami next month and go from there
thanks anons

I bought the re-published ones, currently half way through 2. If you can stand the shitty camera, 1 is honestly pretty fun

Good on ya lad

Doesn't 1 eat shit on any PS3 that isn't first gen?

It works great on my PS3 slim, but you can always emulate it on PCSX2 if you have a decent PC
pic related

PS2 are dirt cheap and easily moddable.

Or just emulate.

Yes, 0 is a great starting point and makes Kiwami hit harder in the emotional moments

The cutscenes look amazing, but the clunky engine switch is what's killing me from enjoying 6

Clan creator looks badass too.

Thank goodness.

Maybe one day Sega will decide to fund a US PS3 Y5 print run themselves. I mean, they funded the 1-4 rereleases, so it's not entirely unrealistic.

So what's next for Nagoshi et al? Kiwami 2?

I'm pretty sure you can play 2-5 on PS3. Like said, the first one has compatibility issues. Just watch the summary on 2.

>My eyes
>muh Hibiki
>muh waifu
REEEEEEEEEEE

>Yakuza Ishin never got a localization
>its one of the best yakuza games in the series

Kiryu Chan will find a way to get dragged back in the story

Wouldn't mind a new character or at least more Akiyama/Majima

perfect because i've been really wanting to get into the series, but didnt want to play through early ones right away. Will be picking 0 up soon then.

2 is a PS2 game so i can't play it on my PS3

SEGA's excuse for not localizing it is that they believe westerners aren't able to understand the historical context. Pretty dumb when games like Dynasty Warriors get western releases.

You haven't hacked your PS3?

>still no Y3 with less cut content on PSN

>Kenzan, Shinso, Ashura and Ishin never ever

...

stealing against my morality, and no I still actually use my PS3 it's still linked to my PSN

Not him,but what's all this about hacking a PS3? I've got a slim. Can I get free games on it?

>I still actually use my PS3 it's still linked to my PSN
So do I. It's your loss, my dude.

>jailbreak console
>burn dvd/blueray games or download them
>????
>profit

Yes you can get free games provided your firmware is on 3.55. If not then by an E3 flasher (goes for like 90 quid last time I checked).

Is 6 the worst entry yet?

I think Sega said something about PS4 rereleases of 3-5 and Kiwami 2, so don't lose hope

Next to Dead Souls, basically
>awkward combat
>Harukafags BTFO
>Only Kiryu is playable
>shitty ending
>shitty end boss

If we're talking mainline then I still prefer 6 over the original on PS2 but they're all good in their own right. 6 could really do with a PC port though.

The problem with 3 is that for newcomers it's going to be incredible boring.
>Majima fight happens
>Next hour is helping the kids in Ryukyu before you get to do anything at all, even fight.
>Rikiya cutscene is the next real time you actually get to fight.
>Then it's more time spent with the kids before you finally get access to Ryukyu like three or four hours after you first fought Majima and sat through the cutscenes.
>After that it's Ryukyu stuff, and you finally go to Kamuro and things start to go places, but then you're whisked back to Okinawa to take care of the kids all over again for several more hours.
I can't imagine how annoying this would be for new players. I thought the orphanage stuff was a bit much but I had the patience to stick through it, but who knows about new players. If anything 4 is a much better start because everyone that is playable barring Kiryu is completely new, and with Kiryu it's a self-contained kind of thing as well with no real prior knowledge needed as they tell it to you point blank while playing him or Saejima.

Funny thing, is I look back and this is where it all started for me.

As "uncool" 3 was for most fans, shit was still pretty dope and got me into the entire series.

I'm OP I have never played these game.
Of course it is a beat um up, with what looks like rpg elements.
When you talk about helping kids, has the games got, idle things to do, that has nothing to do with the story or plot development.
like how shenmue had idle things.

Its not really a remake, its more like an HD-update with some tweaks to the combat, and better voice acting

...

I finished 0 in February and bought 1-5 via the reprints right after I beat it. Already preordered Kiwami and hope to preorder 6 when it opens. Currently I am on 5 and just started the Haruka section and it's great as fuck. Wish 6 had a steelbook and if they make kiwami 2 hope that gets a steelbook.

>that animation

Fuck off with that meme. That ruins Majima.

I found 3 dope though I started with 0 then played the games in release order

3 made me cry..That death scene man..Holy shit..Is it the only time Kiryu ever cries?

So which version is more modernized between HD 1 and Kiwami 1? Kiwami?

>6 had a steelbook
Mate count on it, IIRC 4 had a collector's edition which came with a dope-ass steelbook. I expect Kiwami to sell well because of the low price so maybe SEGA might sell the limited edition RGG6 PS4 and DX Pack over here in the west.

I don't get why there isn't Kiwami 2..Its almost EVERYONEs favorite out of the series

That death scene was fucking stupid. Kiryu cries over Rikiya but not Kashiwagi?

youtube.com/watch?v=HtiixXPHbUY
Watch this video, DigitalFoundary go over what is included in Kiwami. 1 and 2 HD collection released on WiiU and PS3 are just remasters. Kiwami is a full on remake.

Kiwami is the HD-remake..I would still say play the ps2 version if you are able, get am emulator..It's a good game even though its dated. and in english

Good on you man, I'm just speaking in general terms though. I doubt too many people would stick it through the first five or so hours where it's kind of dull to get to the meat of the game.

>When you talk about helping kids, has the games got, idle things to do, that has nothing to do with the story or plot development.
The kids are part of the main story. Like, it literally has you help them do stuff several times during the story before you get to move on to anything. The first time you do it it's helping them get a dog, find Taichi something or other, dress one of the kids, help him on a date, etc. Second time you visit it's tracking Haruka, helping out some of the girls, stop a bullying problem, etc. There's no fighting during any of this and only the dog search has city exploring at that point.

But yes, it does have tons of stuff that has nothing to do with the main story, that's one of the main draws. Minigames, substories, challenges like eating everything at every single restaurant, making all the modded items, doing all the training with certain people, a secret boss if you do certain portions of these, etc.

Yeah but 4's steelbook I don't believe was released officially in America and I don't believe 6 had a steelbook

Kiwami. It's basically a remaster with tons of new content and has the style change system from 0. HD versions of 1&2 are simply just that, it's an HD collection with faster load times, save booths have the item box which they originally didn't, and updated graphics. They're not to the extent of Kiwami at all.

Only Europe had Steelbooks for 4 and Dead Souls. US got squat up until Kiwami here.

The JP version of Kiwami didn't get a steelbook, what's your point?

I just finished 0 last night - never played any of the others. Despite a strange mix of weird, goofy and serious I really liked it. The story and characters were genuinely good. I'll be picking up Kiwami later this year.

>Dead Souls
is this a stay the fuck away game?
zombie bullshit

It didn't? Guess there is hope then
Dead Souls was them getting their feet wet for Binary Domain

Pick up 6 when it drops early next year.

It's pretty fun as long as you understand you can't play it as a normal Yakuza game or a TPS, you have to abuse the auto-aim both hipfiring and Head Tracking.

Honestly, Dead Souls' biggest faults are most of the substories (Since it's basically the same thing repeated for each character with maybe three or so unique substories for each one and a full 4 mission substory) the seven times you need to revisit the subterranea, Ryuji and Kiryu's long treks if you want to get to the top of the quarantine zone, and Amon. I have never seen a worse Amon yet, even 3's put up a bigger fight than Rasetsu Amon and all you had to do for him was spam Tiger Drops. It was a massive disappointment after the hours of the subterranea.

silky smooth

>I don't want to be judged as a weeb: the post

Just play them in release order you fucking cunt.

eat shit and die you cock mongling monkey fucker

What killed me was fucking up on sidestories

I did get a bit salty over the cut content too

Does 6 continue the multiple protagonist bullshit?

Because its a case-by-case deal.
You don't simply just remake Y2 into Kiwami 2 and hope it'll do well when you "just released" 0 and Kiwami 1

Also, there's a high possibility of burnout
There's alot of shit to do in these games that's another reason why they take some time in between to churn out another one and get it translated etc.

No, sadly

>sadly

That's a good thing.

>What killed me was fucking up on sidestories
They fixed it up in 4 onward but then mess it all up by either causing Premium Adventure to wipe everything for whatever reason, or making it so each character can only access substories for a single chapter unless you go into Premium Adventure. It gets really annoying at times if you want to do stuff during the main game rather than Premium Adventure because of that.

>I did get a bit salty over the cut content too
I don't care about Answer X Answer because they'd basically have to localize it and replace all the questions and answers with western relevant ones, but the hostesses ones and cutting the teaching English and suicidal idiot/dumb girl substories were absolutely idiotic. The hostesses were the worst though, random models stand around in what amounts to McD's to go on dates and spew their life stories at you? Really? You don't even learn anything about them and are instantly bailing them out of massive issues you would have developed going to the clubs, instead you're ready to marry a girl you went on two dates with.

It's fine when it's just 2 characters but more than that and you're gonna get some shitty character that aren't as fun to play as. Like the cop in Y4 or the baseball player and Haruka in Y5

Tanimura was perfectly fine, the only bad part about his chapters was his final boss because of how garbage everything about that is. He is not meant to take on 50+ people while getting shot at, his multi-person Heat Action can only hit two people for crying out loud.

You could do it chronologically and start with 0 but that might skew your opinion of the series to go from that to the very first game. Otherwise, just play it by release.
