should doors in video games be manually opened or should they just swing open when you get near them so you can keep a constant pace?

Let me kick the door. Let me kick all the doors.
doors are there to be CLOSED, else it would just be a hole, 100% manual and with the option to close it
but like....all the doors? even a friendly NPCs? even his daughters door?
Doors need an NPC to open them after you finish shooting all the bad guys
>unkillable npcs
pls no
Depends on the type of game.
A game thats all about constant action should be auto so that the player doesnt have to stop
Depends on the game. In some games it makes sense for them to simply open automatically but in some games opening doors has gameplay implications, e.g. in games with stealth elements.
that makes no sense
mechanics should always be realistic / have a reason for being
you can't just keep the player closed in an area with a door / force field he can't open, only to auto open it when every enemy is dead
>you can't just keep the player closed in an area with a door / force field he can't open, only to auto open it when every enemy is dead
I meant just by being near it or moving into to it; fuck that "only opens when everyone is dead" noise.
Confirmed for best doors
>cannot be opened from this side
what did they mean by this
I fucked your momma that's what bitch
Doors should be operated with the mousewheel. Pic related.
All alternative methods are objectively inferior.
locks
but why can't i just kick it open i've been getting nothing but STR
Nigga have you seen those beauties, they are like 1m thicc. STR only goes so far as 99
All games ever should have three options for opening any door.
Full - Door quickly closes or opens as far as it will swing
Gradual - Door slowly opens/closes based on contextual input like scrolling a mousewheel or holding forward/backward for a duration
Kick - you kick the fucking thing open, it may even go flying off its hinges

Fuck any game that makes you wait for an NPC to open a door.
Mirrors Edge Catalyst had the right idea, you can just shoulder barge your way through closed doors without losing any speed if you time it right.
so from what im gathering it's scrollwheel, kick, and shoulder charge to keep sprinting?
not-lucas please permeate your way out the front door
This
Crash all doors, with no survivors!
