It doesn't really matter with OoT, though on principle alone any and all ports of good games that change minor things are cashins made solely to stir up controversy and split fanbases, so you should like the original best.

When it comes to Majora's Mask the N64 version is the best version.

N64. 3DS nerfed the Water Temple.

GCN version is just an emulation of the N64 version. It doesn't change much, if anything.

3DS version changes all the graphics (debatable if it's an improvement), ups the framerate to 30fps, includes Master Quest and some other content. It's a good version of the game but it's not as authentic.

It also, very strangely, mirrors the entire world in Master Quest, which the gamecube version did not do

another question:
n64 version emulated using a ps4 controller with janky button mapping or 3ds version on a 2ds?

3Ds on 2ds

The former.

I don't think double damage was something the GC Master Quest had either, but I could be wrong.

The latter easily

3DS version is the only one that runs at 30fps
I can understand older games running at sub 60 but I can't fucking enjoy a game that runs at 20fps like the N64 originals

this is for a first time playthrough of any zelda game btw

No they didn't

No aliasing though

I like the 3DS port of OoT, it was pretty faithful
I'm mixed on the 3DS port of MM. While it did have some helpful changes, it also had some very annoying changes like what they did to Zora swimming, Song of Inverted Time is faster, Goron Roll is harder due to the 3DS's sensitive analog stick, and the bosses are all changed

The crazy thing to me is that OoT N64 isn't "hard locked" at 20 fps like everyone says, it's hard CAPPED at 20 fps. With original hardware, not only can it not run any smoother, but it dips. A lot.

Here's a good rule of thumb regarding original vs remake:

Is it a remake of a good game? Play the original first.

Is it a remake of a bad game? Play the remake first.

It's that simple. You play REmake and La-mulana over RE1 and the original La-mulana, you play OoT/MM64 over OoT/MM3D.

>implying RE1 is bad

fuck sake youngun

Name one bad game that was remade

with this kind of game you play the original version or you don't play it at all.

I hear Dolphin is the best way to run it. I think they even put up a video about it.

>there's a really bad BGM in one area that's exclusive and it's exclusive to the Director's Cut

WHOA strong argument I just got btfo to fucking venus

La-mulana.

Tales of Destiny

>I run my n64 on an lcd with s-video

It runs better than what I've seen on crt, so what's the issue?

...

>Oh this edgy meme will get him so good

What issues do lcds have with s-video?

OOT and MM have pretty minor emulation errors. Its the way to go for both games. ALthough playing on the original hardware also has something going for it.
Either way is good but the second option can get quite expensive.

I played the N64 version over and over again, I figure if the GCN is a direct port then it might be the best since I've heard there's a slightly higher fps and the graphics seem crisper. Plus the Master Quest. Then again the newer I get the less mature the game seems to get. Unless the 3DS version's additions and subtractions manage to blow me the fuck away so I don't feel like anything is cringy

How do you map a PS3 controller to play OoT? Do you make the square, triangle, and O buttons the C buttons?

I map c-left to triangle and c-down to circle

If you prefer to play on a tv over a handheld like me then the GameCube or n64 is best. I'd assume the GameCube is the best being better graphics and maybe some fixes.

But I'm most used to the n64 ones. I personally use a svideo cable to a component active adapter to my 4k tv and it looks pretty decent. I have an old flat crt from 2005 and in some ways it looks better then that.

Go with whatever is easist for you to play id say, I realize n 64s arnt was easy to come by as a 3ds or 2ds to quickly play.

I would play the GameCube ones on a first gen Wii because of the gamecubes expensive component cables. Wii had either an hd adapter or cheap component

So between CE and GCN version with an adapter which is hard to find wwyd

???

what about emulating the 3ds version?

check mate atheist

GCN because you get the best version of the game and you don't have to play it with an N64 controller.

Wait, did I miss something? How do the gameplay-changes clash with the narrative?

3DS version still has pillow lighting

It's called pillow shading

Getting the bombers notebook from the happy mask salesmen instead of the bombers is one example.

I played it on N64 so I have no problem going back to that version. Even when I play those games on an emulator I reduce the resolution to what would be in this case 240 lines. Give me some guff about it.

The earliest versions had the Islamic prayer-sampled Fire Temple theme and the crescent moon and star Gerudo emblem, which may have been culturally ignorant but still have historical value for our medium.

Digital clock.

Man, I remember when I got Monster S-video cables for my GCN and realized they were compatible with my 64. It was time for another Majora's Mask marathon that evening.

I think this technique only applies to pixel art

So the Gamecube version is the superior port for MM and OoT?

Gamecube, it's identical to the original, and you can use the more comfortable Gamecube controller
