Last filter thread was a surprising success. Many anons weren't even aware you can filter, and were grateful for the advice. Let us share our best/most effective filters with each other and help make Sup Forums great again.
PLEASE NOTE -- Anyone that gets butthurt about this thread and calls us faggots are just teenagers getting mad that fewer and fewer people are going to see their epic "BRAAP" and "what did he mean by this" shitpost threads. The mere fact that this makes them so angry proves it's an effective tool. Without (You)'s, they die.

>inb4 phoneposter If you're extra good this year, maybe mommy and daddy will buy you a smartphone.
Caleb Stewart
I didn't mean like this. This is actually kinda funny. I fully support this kind of BRAAP thread.
Owen Sanders
BRRAAAAAPPP *sniff*
David Morris
Woah it's like I'm really in reddit
Elijah Myers
Added. Thanks!
Asher Gomez
My filters aren't working, any idea what I'm doing wrong? This is the string
>rosalina|peach|doa|"dead or alive"|senran|neptunia|husbando|daisy
Josiah Kelly
Pretty much this, filtering is a useful feature but this just seems like a thread for 'contrarians' to show each other their own dicks.
Colton Sanchez
i filter kojima and del toro
Samuel Sanders
Unfortunately I'm not very good with 4chanx filters, but last thread had a guy with a fucking treasure trove of them, including tripfag and spambot filters. Hopefully he shows up again. However, thank you for the filter additions.
>a thread for contrarians to show each other their own dicks So Sup Forums?
Luke Cooper
>not using clover ayy lmao
Levi Ortiz
>phoneposting redditor accusing anyone else of being cancer this is golden
Carter Long
Not a bad idea. I actually don't hate Kojima or his games, just his fanbase. In fact, if I could get that Caramel faggot's tripcode to filter, that would suffice.
Evan Howard
>he doesn't eat from the shit buffet like I do, lmao reddit
Gavin Gonzalez
I stopped filtering because threads were practically empty due to the amount of filters I had. I was surprised by how easy it is to just ignore something I don't like.
Blake Wood
I just filter things that I have either no interest in or recurring threads that almost seem like they're made by a spam bot.
Charles Wright
this Tripfags make it so easy to filtr them if you visit Sup Forums, filter solus and kevin and you are good to go
Gabriel Perry
>tfw you first discover you can filter individual tripcodes Quality of Sup Forums tripled in a heartbeat. You don't have Caramel's tripcode, do you?
Cameron Evans
>filtering generic words like "N.intendo"
you're a moron
Christopher Russell
Spotted the angry preteen. It's not out of some blinding rage or anything -- I just have zero interest in anything Nintendo has ever done. I'm sure plenty of people have Sony and Microsoft filtered, so whatever.
Adam White
sorry i don't im on mobile today
Lucas King
Anyone familiar with 4chanX/regexes that can toss me a solution for threads starting or inclinding "Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft/etc won!"
Caleb Watson
Damn, you must not like many genres if that is the case. Enjoy playing nothing.
Brayden Long
Not a very elegant solution but I just filter the word "won" since this is literally the only context that word is used in around here.
Ryder Sullivan
You're right, I don't like platformers and minigames. So sorry, Nintenkid.
Camden Wright
bunch of babies sticking their heads in the sand instead of being able to ignore posts
Luke Campbell
BROADLY SPEAKING: To use a regex, use / at the start and /i at the end. Like so:
/ /i
Not sure exactly what you mean, but here's a catalog filter that might be what you want.
/(sony|nintendo|microsoft) won/i
This will match with anypost that has the string "Sony won" in it somewhere.
>senran >kagura I like to combine my filters into a single line when they're related. In this case:
/senran|kagura/i
>nep I can't think of any words or chains of words that contain "nep" off the top of my head, but just in case, I'd suggest the following:
/\bnep(tunia)?\b/i
This will only match "nep" or "neptunia" as a full word,
Parker Powell
I assume you're encapsulating with "/" and "/i" The "dead or alive" there does not need the quote marks. Take them out, that should fix your regex.
Josiah Butler
Wouldn't the "his game" filter out any threads with "this game"?
Jayden Perry
Now show us a picture of your catalog. I want to see the garbage you consider "quality" that's left over.
Benjamin Ward
If you filter and don't see those threads you can't report them to make the board healthier. If you just ignore the problem it doesn't magically go away.
Jace Cook
Some threads aren't even things that are problems though. Some topics are just of no interest to people regardless.
Dominic Robinson
The last part of my filter list. For the most part I only filter out the really annoying stuff, but I combine a lot of related filters into a single regex.
The very last one is a catchall to make sure every unfiltered thread gets a white border. For the most part this doesn't do much, but when the catalog isn't loading images properly, or when Sup Forums is cocked, threads will still display something I can shift+click to hide.
Adam Cruz
>Implying reporting works I do it all the time, and try to bump other threads to help, but it just doesn't work.
Ethan Diaz
If you want, you could always just highlight those threads in catalog with a coloured border. That helps you find those threads quickly for reporting. And then you hide it manually.
Not a regex, so I think it only searches for full words.
Hudson Flores
My filter list isn't huge, but I do have some things on there that I filter out.
>*blocks your path* >say something nice >persona (for spoilers) >"Oh brother" (this one is for /ck/) >/ourguy/
The rest I can just ignore or report.
Sebastian Murphy
Scholar and a gentleman. Really appreciate the advice, bro.
Ah, good point. I'll take out the quotes.
Janitors on Sup Forums are a motherfucking joke. I gave up on reporting a while ago. >If you ignore it, it doesn't magically go away That's LITERALLY what filtering does.
Ryan Thompson
Works for me. Those shitposting threads still push slower but legit threads off the board, even if you don't see it happening.
Jeremiah Russell
True. It's not always some kneejerk "REEEEEEE CANCER MEME" kind of response. Some people just honestly don't give a single fuck about, say, Persona and don't want to be bothered with them.
Liam Howard
Of all the short-and-sweet filter lists I've seen, this is probably the best. By filtering 1, 2, and 5, you'd drastically improve your Sup Forums experience.
Brayden Baker
Don't care. Reporting does nothing.
Ian Miller
Did someone say...
William Carter
And that's exactly why I do it. Those type of threads are pure cancer imo.
Nathan Rogers
>"his game" /\b(his|her) game/i
You could combine that lump of Overwatch filters into a single regex like so: /Blizzard|Overwatch|Tracer|Widowmaker|Hanzo|Genji|Mei/i
Similarly the butt stuff: /booty|ass|arse|butt/i
I'd also recommend some other combinations when the strings are related. /beep|boop/i /dbz|tekken/i (Fighting games yeah?) /our ?guy/i
Regexes also let you do some powerful things: /what did (they|he|she|it) mean/i /po?ke?mo?n/i /what went (right|wrong)/i
That last one also matches "pkmn" although I acknowledge that's not even a thing, it's more to demonstrate the power of regexes.
Kayden Rivera
>filtering a game not because you hate it but because it makes it more likely you'll avoid spoilers I can't believe I never thought of this. Thank you, user.
Tyler Lopez
No prob user. I did the same for Ace Attorney. Works very well.
Joshua Green
Phenomenal advice. Thank you, based regex user.
Adam Walker
It never works. It still WILL get spoiled. The only safe way is to stop browsing Sup Forums altogether, until you finished that game yourself.
Joseph Green
>all these filters Do you anons even see any threads at all?
Owen Sanchez
For those interested in the Sup Forums related filters here they are.
> /dota|elo hell|league of legends/i This one doesn't include abbreviations because it's mainly /vg/ targeted. Threads there usually include the full name of the game.
> /(war|star|mine)craft|grand theft auto|hearthstone|fighting game(s general)?|maple ?story|grand strategy|.mbg.|animal crossing|guild wars|dragon age|Sup Forums cup|persona|world of tanks|second life|eve online|roblox|runescape|tibia|star (citizen|trek|wars)|league of legends|dota|dueling network|elder scrolls|etrian|planetside|battlefield|titanfall|.csgog.|(team fortress|tf2)|metal gear|neptunia|dayz|SANIC|assfaggots|(visual novel|VN)/i This clusterfuck hasn't been updated in a while. I should probably update it later.
> /suddenly hates.*(\n)?What (the fuck )?happened.$|zoe quinn|gamers? ?gate/i > /atari|x68(000|k)|coleco/i Some shitpost quality threads. I haven't bothered to update in a while. Updating constantly isn't worth it I find. Trends come and go so quickly that most of my filters only matter for about a month.
Just so you're aware, I am not the regex user from last thread. I wasn't even in that thread. Just got home.
Andrew Anderson
To be fair, I said "more likely". I usually do avoid Sup Forums before a game launch I'm anticipating, but if I get spoiled, it's not the end of the world.
>hurrrrr you must not see ANYTHING!!!! I still see dozens and dozens and dozens of threads, just with dramatically less cancer and shitposting.
Leo Flores
Thanks. But you can if it is actually a rule violation. I don't go out of my way but filtering hides threads and puts them in a handy grouping for quick reporting.
Alexander Williams
Doesn't matter if you're him or not, you're still sharing some awesome advice. I appreciate it.
Samuel Mitchell
You can also filter for stuff you're interested in, and move it to the top of catalog and/or highlight with a coloured border. As an example, I have three filters for highlighting Sup Forums threads in different colours depending on which series they are, and whether it's airing in the current season.
Nathan Young
True, and a fair point. Although once I filter out all the cancer, I'm pretty much left only looking at threads I might have an interest in, so I don't see the point, at least for me.
I don't need to filter the good stuff to the top if I've already filtered out all the dogshit.
Elijah Thomas
So, if anyone has a regex question, or wants to request a filter string, pipe up, I'll give it a shot.
More filter combining!
>Nintendo stuff /Nintendo|Splatoon/i
>Streamers /youtube|twitch|let.s play/i (Special characters don't play nice in Sup Forums's regex, use a period instead.)
>memey stuff I guess /Todd|^just$|happening$/i (The $ assumes the "happening" is always the last word in a post.)
Charles Gray
Sorry if this is a vague or dumb question, but do you have some sort of Ultra-Filter? Like, if you could only use ONE filter but still wanted it to encompass as much shitposting cancer as possible, what would you suggest?
Failing that, what's the ONE filter you're most proud of? What's the ONE filter you think would most improve the average user's Sup Forums experience?
Parker Nelson
Still, be careful about. It's not perfect.
Brody Ward
How about "wife's son" posts? Also, how do I highlight correctly?
Jace Collins
I know, but it's fine. >my wife's son THIS THIS THIS PLZ
Matthew Ortiz
>I don't need to filter the good stuff to the top if I've already filtered out all the dogshit. Fair point. But also consider that the nature of the shit changes over time. I used to update my regexes constantly, but most of the hide filters are outdated after a month at best. But the highlight filters? They've been working for years without changes.
>Like, if you could only use ONE filter but still wanted it to encompass as much shitposting cancer as possible, what would you suggest? If by that you mean a single regex per board, I could combine all my regexes for any board into a single regex, no problems. Some of them would be a little unwieldy and long, but it would still be everything.
If I could only use a single non-regex filter? I'd use that to highlight something rather than hide. (See below.)
>Failing that, what's the ONE filter you're most proud of? Probably one of these, for different reasons.
> /risk of (rain|rekt)|\bror\b|\bM(on(ster)? )?H(un(ter)?)?([34][GUX]?)?\b/i Monster Hunter threads once had various ways of making themselves. It'd either be Monster Hunter or MonHun, and then there were five different games that would accompany it. Just looking for "Monster Hunter" wasn't enough, because a lot of threads at the time were discussing the genre and similar games rather than the Capcom franchise itself.
/Sixx|^(?=.*logg?)((?=.*warm)|(?=.*shit)).*$/i These shitposts from Sup Forums annoyed me enough to make me learn how to find several strings in a post that might not necessarily be anywhere near each other.
>What's the ONE filter you think would most improve the average user's Sup Forums experience Probably something that *highlights* rather than hides threads. As I said in the shitposts change monthly. I'd say it's better to highlight the things you really like, those filters will last for years.
Easton Sanders
/wife.s son/i This should work. Special characters and punctuation don't play nice, so use a period instead.
Test Case: This post contains the phrase Wife's Son because I just inserted it here. Go me.
Austin Morgan
every single imaginable word related to the souls series
too bad there is no image based filtering
Benjamin Parker
Make sure the filter is correct, first of all.
When I test a filter I like to use the highlight function with a unique colour so it's more obvious if I've got it working correctly. And it turns out the filter in is working correctly. Also note that the filters seem to ignore your own posts, so don't use your own posts for testing.
Justin Jones
I generally try to avoid filtering things, but here.
Xavier Price
Oh, also to note is that if you set a thread to both highlight and hide, the hide will override the highlight. Generally not a problem, you didn't want to see the post anyway right?
/(dark|demon(.s)?) souls?/i
This will also match "Demon" without the possessive, and "Soul" in singular form. Could you give me a list of other words?
I'm curious what the IMG_3443 and .jpg in tan highlight are exactly.
Cooper Russell
Unironically this
Anthony Watson
Yeah, I'm also curious what those two filtered images are supposed to be.
Also >foot >feet Added, thanks!
Jose Young
Reddit faggots are the ones who shit up these boards because they think its just B WITH VIDEOGAMES :P
Henry Morales
>I'm curious what the IMG_3443 and .jpg in tan highlight are exactly. Someone in the Draw Thread (which I lurk in a lot) was/is(?) spamming this same request about feet & Pokemon or some shit. I personally couldn't deal with seeing it always since fuck foot faggotry & the specific image they used.
Michael Carter
/foot|feet/i Or if you wanna get a little fancier: /f(oo|ee)t/i The fancy version is useful if you're only filtering when it's part of a longer string. Otherwise the simpler version is preferable.
Jaxon Gray
Sup Forums has been called Sup Forums with videogames since 2005
Ryan Cook
Less salacious than I thought it might be, but I still support your decision. Fuck footfags.
Zachary Rivera
What's point in going on Sup Forums if your gonna filter everything?
Carson Fisher
...
Gavin Morgan
I'm not saying they don't think that, I'm just letting you know something that you clearly weren't aware of.
David Nelson
>HUUURRRRRR WHATS TEH POINT To talk about video games. I'm so sorry that fewer people will see your epic trole threads now.
Isaac Walker
Clover fucking sucks, it literally just makes everything worse.
Cameron Cook
I go through all the threads and include common filter words to keep you fags out.
Bentley Martinez
He's just an insecure faggot, good thing he can hide all threads that talk about things he don't like, and nobody should like.
Samuel Green
you are obviously going to need to include bloodborne in there, those are the most cancerous console war threads
Lucas Wood
Good thing I only filter the OP, then.
Benjamin Murphy
I tried using it and it was awful
Jose Roberts
>filtering ludo, say something nice, youtube, what am i in for, ourguy, blizzard, webm, what games
well that encompasses all the threads i make. why is filtering allowed?
Joseph Green
#rekt
Xavier Green
To make you angry.
Isaac Gomez
It occurs to me you are using the Thread Filter, which suggests you use the Thread View when looking for a thread to open. Are you aware that the Catalog has a separate filter list, and that strings on the Catalog filter will simultaneously check all fields? (ie, name, comment, tripcode, subject, filename)
>bloodborne I was hoping for a longer list. Is Darksiders part of the Dark Souls cluster as well? First filter does not filter out Darksiders; second one does.
Nobody talks about Darksiders anyway so don't worry about it.
Nolan Nelson
> why can't Sup Forums stop being Sup Forums?
How did you come across this board, why are you even here and when will you leave?
Jacob Torres
(You)'s should be removed. The dots where rad and they where addictproof.
Logan Lewis
Did you make "what are some games" threads?
Matthew Brown
>why don't you guys like cancer as much as I do?
Wyatt Ross
yes but 90% of the time it starts great discussion. deep sea games, mesoamerican games, half-swording games etc
Brayden Butler
>Are you aware that the Catalog has a separate filter list No I wasn't, I actually thought I came across it before but I didn't see it in the Settings for the longest time so I gave up, apparently I've always been looking over it even though it's right near the Search bar, how dumb of me.
>and that strings on the Catalog filter will simultaneously check all fields? (ie, name, comment, tripcode, subject, filename) No I didn't also on that part, I'm going to transfer all that shit now to that then, thanks for the heads up.
Grayson Scott
But those thread are made for off-topic discussion. How did people discuss games. Did you try any game reccomended?
Andrew Campbell
This, I don't give a single lone fuck about XIV or Stormblood so now I don't have to see that shit clogging the board
Thomas Walker
Thank you for the reminder. Just added: >xiv >stormblood >shillblood
Jaxson Howard
If you use 4chanX it groups all the hidden threads together instead of just removing them entirely.
