Google atmospheric horror. If you want jump scares go back to cowaduti

Videogames can't be scary, unless you're ten years old.

when you open the door and hear "hurry, run..." for the first time

Not after turning into a dude with a laser sword, assault rifle, and the ability to turn yourself invisible, increase damage and sapped as well as controlling enemies to attack their kin.

good evening bronson

When you enter an empty hallway and that slow tense music starts playing

>the first time this bitch appears
Some of the audio logs were also pretty spoopy

youtube.com/watch?v=xG5EmRit0W8&index=5&list=PLDDB2582EAA71D384

Where did you go?

Everyone complains about the absurd respawn ratio, but I really liked it.
It gave the game such a sense of urgency and the dread that you couldn't waste your time as much as you wanted.

>the basic zombies guys saying "run" or "kill me"
>those monkey noises freaking you out until you get better gear to beat them
>the first time you meet cyborg midwife
>the first couple times you get those weird psychic things from The Many
>the SHODAN reveal

Also, a personal one for me on first playthrough:
>maintenance area
>low of resources
>that damn maintenance robot thing following me
>close to death
>go up those little elevators that take you up to cargo boxes
>not sure what to do
>press button for elevator to go down
>robot just happens to be under the little elevator platform while it's going down
>platform kills the robot
I seriously did not expect that happening, and it's the moment that made me realize this is gonna be one of my all time favorites.

...

It's not really scary, it's more unsettling. Midwives in particular were very unsettling.

That doesn't even make sense, CoD doesn't do horror or jumpscares.

When you first hear a hybrid, and then when I first saw one.
*Alt f4*

hello summer

I remember trying to lure the big bot under the lift.

DELETE THIS

literally the second this song started playing i knew this game would be forever one of my favs, it also scare the shit out of me how well timed it was, the second it hits 0:23 it all goes to hell.
youtube.com/watch?v=0bL7I_eWryI

The thing that made this game scary to me was the re-spawning enemies. Backtracking through an area you cleared not to long ago and hearing enemies shuffling around always put me on edge.

Also
>yfw you hear a cyborg midwife

*blocks your path*

>first area
>see big scary yellow mech on the other side of a window
>"I'm safe from him until I have to go into that room"

>complete medsci objectives
>"Okay looks like I'll have to fight the mech now, just gonna go to open the door and-"
>the big mech got out of the room on his own somehow and startles the fuck out of me

>rave music
>scary

The exploding helper bots when I had no ammo

Gameplay-based fear is the best fear

>this song
Good shit.

>Hear a man beg for his life
≯̴̧͞͠G̢͘l͟͠͠o͡r̨̢͢͡y̴̢̨ ̸̛͘͝t̨̢̡͜o̵̸ ̶̢͠ţh́͘ȩ̴ ̡m͠a̵̢n̨͟͢͠y̶̷̧͞
>sound of a shogtun blast and bloodsplatter
>̨͞͡I̴̧͢͞͡ ͘̕a̴̧̢͢m̡ ̢͘͠a̵̧̧ ͡v̷̸̢̢͠ò̡͝i̷̡̧͟c̶̀ę̶̸̡͞ ̶́͜͞͠i̢ņ̀͜ ̡͟͞t̢̡͝h̶̷͘e̴͘i̷͜͢͝͠r̨͢͡ ̴̸̨́c̸̴̴̀͢ḩ̶͡ǫ͝͠i͞͠r̷͢
>more screaming and shotgun blasts

Seriously, the sound/music teams for this game knocked it out of the fucking park.

>Seriously, the sound/music teams for this game knocked it out of the fucking park.
Fucking this.

>MY CUP RUNNETH OVERRRRR
The fuck was this guy's problem?

Was that the one with the monkies or the robots?

Maintenance Deck. Fuck that place, especially the exploding robots and claustrophobic atmosphere.

If you are scared by anything in SS2 you are literally an autistic manchild.

I wanna hug her and tell her everything is going to be ok

If you breath oxygen you are a loser moron, haha looks like I win again

...

With this fuckers, tons of them.

It's cool how everything that happened aboard the Von Braun and Rickenbacker is the Hacker's fault. Forty years later his actions still keep taking lives.

Babies must sleep... babies must rest.

youtube.com/watch?v=oR6WBGKw0MA

>monkies
What the fuck am I writing, monkeys
Yeah fuck that
>SIR, SIR WHERE ARE YOU

youtube.com/watch?v=39ruF7VeDTw

THAT'S
THE
TRIOPTIMUM
WAY

*screams from Hell audible*

I found it quite easy just getting close to them, smacking them with a wrench and going back when they're about to explode. They don't even attack you when you get too close to them. The white ones were harder though, fuck

>playing through on normal difficulty
>be on the engineering deck
>quicksave right as I am low hp and pinned down by laser turret
>immediately after I quicksave, one of these cocksuckers comes through the door behind me
>can't kill him before he blows me up
>if I try to run I get my ass blasted by the laser turret
>have to start all over again

It wasn't enough for this game to be unsettling as all hell, they had to make it frustratingly hard, too. I've only ever been able to beat this game on easy.

The fuck? I just beat the game on Normal for the first time and it was far too easy. You have so much health, and damage and resources are so forgiving.

>he doesn't save in a different slot every time

babies must sleep
babies must rest

...

>he did an OSI playthrough

What does that mean

The mosquitoes.

Those were just infuriating, not scary

So everyone is already talking about the engineering deck, with turrets and robots around every fucking corner, and the hydroponics deck with cyborg midwives galore, but didn't anybody else remember when I don't remember which deck it was but you're in this big open room and you get a message from Xerxes shortly before the room fills up with those giant fucking spiders

Is that the Ops part with the sim unit trap?

...

Lol I used that blue potion that makes you run fast as fuck, inserted the cartridge and got the fuck out of here, didn't even fight them

Yeah I believe so.

THAT'S THE TRI-OPTIMUM WAAAAAAAAAY

its not the song ya mung, its the athmosphere.

>Tfw running into a wall at full speed and dying the first time.

I miss games that gave you abilities that benefited you but could also bite you in the ass for abusing.

The scariest part is the beginning where you only have a wrench to defend yourself with, once you start getting more gear and get stronger with cybermodule upgrades it is no longer scary when you can easily kill anything that shows up.

*activates forcefield with you and C4 inside*

*rapidly throws ninjas stars at you and runs away*

Those guys were severely underused in SS2

FUCK YOUUUUU

When that techno beat starts in Med/Sci.

>Go to deck four, can you remember that?
Deck four

Remember that part where you had to destroy those two shuttles The Many were trying to use as breeding grounds and when you tried to leave there was a horde of shotgun using hybrids? Image if instead of hybrids it was a horde of cyborg assassins going after you.

First time encountering the robot midwives.

>that electronic screeching
>constantly talking about the little ones
>then later learning about the selection process and who these people were

System shock 2 was the only game to scare me years ago

now its all "jump scares" It's feels like devs have forgotten how to make an actual immersive atmospheric horror game

There are mods that fix that

>he uses manual saves

It was annoying but I think the game is better with it, you were never safe anywhere and it really adds to the tension.

SS1 may not have been a horror game, but the Autobomb maze was some truly terrifying shit.

would you ?

Oh yeah i would find a way baby.
youtube.com/watch?v=gpOzAxngZMI

>Turn the music off at the start because of the pulsing techno ruining the scares for me
>Putting most of my points into hacking because I'm a hacker, after all, and I heard the game can be literally uncompletable otherwise
>Get shot to shit by turrets and have mostly broken guns but decent ammo, low health

>Going through that fucking dark cargo bay with the exploding robots completely silently
>Every time a robot even shuffles its ass I hear it clanging super loud
>My weapons are busted the fuck up and I can't use my wrench to fight exploding fuckbots

Jesus christ how horrifying it was.
I'll have to play SS2 again, I got up to the Many hive and put it away unfortunately.

Jack into cyberspace and kill it?
Hell yes I would.

He's not that scary but he did startle me when he suddenly appeared outside of the room he was trapped in

Sounds like it would've been amazing for a scene where you're being chased by way too many enemies to fight through a labyrinth of hallways. Not particularly spooky, but adds a sense of urgency with a rhythmic beat. I like the breakdown, too, where it turns into ambient noises before the percussion comes back.

It sounds a bit like the soundtrack to Blade, now that I think about it.

>because I'm a hacker, after all
Isn't the protagonist a soldier?

It'd be like a gloryhole.

Look at you, Hacker. A pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors.

You know that quote is in reference to SS1, right?

That's from the first game and it's used as a test file when you're setting up your soundcard.
It never appears in-game.

What did she mean by this?

>tfw going too fast for fear

youtube.com/watch?v=Y0yTEDZIu4g

Yes, the protag of SS2 is a soldier.
SS1s protag is the hacker.

Something about vore.

I knew I heard it in-game, I apparently just didn't remember which game. Apologies.

SS1 is fucking outdated and obtuse in ways that are just shitty as opposed to the odd charm of SS2's menus, and I do not recommend

>I knew I heard it in-game
You couldn't have. I just freaking told you that it is not used in-game.

the fucking spider trap

Fighting The Many boss
I had to cheat and spawn medkits

But you do hear in in-game, right in the beginning intro cinematic that recalls the events of SS1.

nah

Oh. Well I guess it's cool that they finally found use for that clip.

>Shodan achieves sentience
>Kills all the humans and tries to create the perfect mechanical life form but gets smoked at the last second
>Spends years in space farting around doing nothing
>Her work creating the perfect mechanical life without nature's frailties and inferiority ends up creating the perfect unity hive-mind of flesh and bone
>Ends up getting shot to death by the very dude she tried to bang

Has there ever been a bigger fuckup than SHODAN?

>Sounds like it would've been amazing for a scene where you're being chased by way too many enemies to fight through a labyrinth of hallways.
thats exactly what happens

>that puzzle with the code hidden in the paintings
I ended up missing one digit but I tried all the combinations and it worked kek

Thank Christ user I was starting to doubt myself even

>dude she tried to bang
u wot?
