>mfw I never finished it
I should really get around to finishing the series
I friend and I have invested +300 hours doing hardcore runs on max difficulty.
Houserule: no berserker allowed in any way.
Core game or mods? I've seen footage of Stratagems and Tactics at the same time and it looks like an absolute bitch to deal with. I have enough trouble with Stratagems to feel accomplished after fights.
Core game. We're using the shitty Beamdog remaster out of convenience.
Remember
NO TALKING ABOUT FUCKING IMOEN
It gets easier towards the end. Irenicus is a pushover, if your party can defeat Drizzt and his butt friends you're set
I want to talk about Kensages
Smart optimizers or scum of the Earth?
Okay.
>Try out Tactics mod
>All fights become a huge goddamn chore because enemies all have a stack of 5 scrolls for every defense and magic super spell triggers
Complete bullshit. After 1 run, I uninstalled everything except the new fights and the change to the final battle to make it more exciting.
The change it makes to that duerger in the first dungeon is just a joke parody of itself though and isn't to be taken seriously, even I'll admit to that.
Are any of these actually good or they just ramp the difficulty to stupid? I want to replay the entire saga up till ToB, fuck ToB
It's fun since magic is really fun and you can also kick butt in melee.
People sometimes get overly stuck in their ways though and don't try out other fun things.
>mfw jaheira was my waifu as a 13 year old
That's cute, user.
None of them really appealed to me though, perhaps because they were whiny, bitchy or otherwise had some personality flaws that put me off. I just romanced them out of weird completionism.
>never finished BG2 on release
>tried to finish it recently but can't because ToEE spoiled me on combat system
>can't finish ToEE either because everything other than the combat is shit
I guess I'll just keep playing NetHack...
Kensorcs are fun!
Shame you can't multiclass Sorcerer. Being a Kensorcsorc would be great.
I'm having a blast with stratagems, just make sure you don't fight any dragons or liches until you're decently leveled.
I never played tactics because it looked like a heavy-handed take on improved difficulty that stratagems does better, and seems to verify that
For stratagems: If you coasted through the games on low AC and Thac0 and never learned your shit, you'll get destroyed in the first room of the Nashkel mines. The biggest change is that mages who have reason to expect someone will be attacking get all their buffs pre-applied, like you would do before attacking them. No lucky hitting a guy before he puts up stoneskin to take him out of the equation, and if you get cheeky and try a backstab before the script fires they'll try and detect invis on you (which makes non-detection a useful spell or cloak)
I fucking love it, I don't think I could go back to the old AI at this point.
HEYA
IT'S ME, BEST BROTHER
Meme class for solo runs
this
never played it as a kid, picked up bg1 about 3 years ago and enjoyed it a lot, went straight into bg2, but got majorly burnt out of the whole thing (particularly the setting/overall motivation) around the time I entered the underdark
and now that I've forgotten exactly what I was doing/what all my items were/etc., my autism demands that I restart the whole series with a new character
In your humble opinion what do you think is the best weapon in BG2 SOA?
Carsomyr?
Crom Faeyr?
Flail of Ages?
Celestial Fury?
Impaler?
Some other weapon I haven't named?
My vote is for the FoA, that slow effect is indispensable
Is that a thing?
I never really learned to breeze through the games, I sort of cheesed everything with my Starcraft acquired APM, D&D bullshit makes no sense to me and spells are confusing. Is there like a comprehensive guide to this madness?
Crom Faeyr since Carsomyr requires a paladin and you can stick CF in your offhand and benefit from 25 strength.
I actually really liked that human element of them, none are obscenely perfect waifu jerkbait, except Aerie(sp) to some degree.
Fighting sarevok with stratagems was fun, I ended up kiting him around the bhaal sigil for minutes while I took out his generals. One thing bad about it is mages in BG2 become tedious after awhile, every other mage shooting off a spell deflect, immunity abjuration, and invisi with stoneskin is not fun at all.
Silver Blade.
I love using it to one-shot every dragon in the game.
>Carsomyr requires a paladin
>Not using it as a Kenstheif
Carsomyr if you have old cuck Keldorn, Equalizer for GW
the mages are easy to counter in both stratagems and tactics, you just have to have dispel and breach or any of the other means of making a mage fight simple.
Short answer no, long answer you can read every spell scroll to learn what they do, especially important for anti-magic shields and shield removers. My first playthrough if a magic shield went up I'd leave the area and rest so the mage lost the protection, but that is so unfeasible with stratagems that you need to learn your spells. Generally though, breach is the one you need the most.
Dual wielding CF and FoA as a dualclasses berserker cleric.
Aerie was so insufferably whiny though. Yeah I get she has some trauma over losing her wings, but I've been hunted my whole fucking life because I'm the spawn of the god of FUCKING MURDER and you don't hear me whining about it!
>BG2 SOA
learn to read
Learn to read.
Carsomyr backstabs are best backstabs.
>learn to read
Not him, but I don't get why you're so upset. Thief epic lets him use any item in the game.
why doesn't anyone talk about dark alliance?
he mentioned SOA not TOB, you can't gain abilities without TOB
Can still use ToB abilities in SoA section however.
Yea I know how to fight a mage, just saying having to pierce shield and breach on every other mage is not fun especially when there are multiple mages who each throw a different contingency.
yes but if you are only mentioning SOA you can't bring up "lol carsomyr has no downside because muh epic thief"
That's the issue with any tactical or strategy mod. By the time you're going through SoA it makes mage fights a huge goddamn chore.
Not harder once you get the hang of it, just a chore.
Final Irenicus fight with tactics is a chore. The mage fights are nothing by comparison.
Who has the best personal quest and why is it Anomen?
I just had stratagems, how much different was tactics?
I certainly can. Your diction was ambiguous. You didn't say ONLY SoA with no ToB, just SoA. Since the enhancements from ToB apply backwards to SoA and they are generally packed together it can be expected you would have both.
You didn't say what you thought you said. Use more clear and precise language next time.
I will say it again: Kenstheif Carsomyr Backstabs with Kai are great fun.
>Your diction was ambiguous
I didn't ask the question but he specified SoA and named only weapons from SoA. Again, learn to read.
Generally speaking when it comes to magic, attack spells aren't very good.
Important spells to look for would include
Simulacrum (have your clone use hotbar scrolls and wands)
Summon Planetar
Timestop
Improved alacrity
Horrid wilting (only worthwhile damage spell)
Removal spells (Breach, warding whip, etc)
Magic resistance reduction (This is usually why people can't hurt dragons)
Contingency and Spell sequencers
and most of the protection spells (Magical weapons, Spell imunity, shield).
learning the spells is the hard part, generally speaking you'll still want a tough boy to go in and actually do the damage once you've stripped the mob of its protections
As far as BG1 goes you can coast through the game with horror, spell trap, infravision and magic missiles
At least Final Irenicus is fun and interesting and challenging instead of just being scripted to have every buff instantly and a stack of scrolls.
Makes it feel more worthy of a Final Boss.
The meme Acid Kensmage tactics sends after you is funny though, because it forgot to have truesight. A staff of the magi will let you turn invisible and bop him until he dies ignobly.
Stratagems seems a bit more even handed and a general boost to difficulty by removing some obvious cheeses.
Tactics adds a lot in terms of harder bosses, forcing the hardest enemy spawns in all dungeons, stronger and smarter dragons, revamped Bhodi and Irenicus fights that are ridiculous etc.
Tactics only if you really know your shit and want a challenge.
SoA still lets you have Use Any Item though.
I've never done it because I find him too annoying to keep around.
Is it really that good?
>spell trap
Learning which abjuration dispels which protection is tedious but worthwhile when you finally purge all the liches from existence.
>spell trap
Dang ol type meant skull trap
BUT THIS ISN'T A NEVERWINTER NIGHTS 1 THREAD YOU RETARDED FAGGOT NWN1
Pokemon?
>attack spells aren't very good.
this is not really true but it has merits. However, by the time you can cast those high level spells you gotta know what damage spells are worthwhile.
Skulltrap has no damage die cap unlike fireball, so at 20 it can do 20die of damage.
Cone of Cold also can continually increase in damage without a ceiling.
Flame Arrow also can do stupid damage because it continues to scale as well.
There are others but not off the top of my head.
For clerics Holy Smite and Glyph of warding are similar.
sorcerers.net
The arcane and divine spells pages have a comprehensive list of which spells are worth taking at each level and what they do.
I used to play so much of that game with my friend back in the ps2 days, watching videos of it now it looks kinda shitty
I could never get into the crude 3d graphix that the game had, if it's truly the best rpg ever sell it to me friendo
I'm not him but it isn't that good. The multiplayer was what kept it alive but I doubt any of them are still alive.
The original NWN campaign is pretty mediocre compared to BG2 though.
Most of the good NWN stuff is player made content.
these
also some of the expansions are good
but overall it was only great because of multiplayer + toolset + mod support
The servers are shut down.
With the wincest mod it is indeed the best game ever
i just replayed it 2 months ago singleplayer and i had a great time. sure it just isnt u guys?
Why is ludacris in this game?
man, only like 6 companions are decent and not annoying faggots.
Almost the same here. Except that I remember the story pretty well, but if I'm going to start BG2, then I want to do it with my old BG1 character. But I don't have the BG1 save anymore and will never play through it again.
Why do I want my BG1 guy? Because it had 19 strength and 19 constitution(the other stats were more average) thanks to the manuals you find through the game.
> infravision
Why? I always thought it was the most useless spell in the game.
I just finished replaying the original campaign a few days ago.
The main questline consists of collecting 4 different things (potion ingredients) from 4 different areas that branch off from a hub town in chap 1. Then collecting more things (clues to where the baddies are this time) in 4 different areas branching off from a different hub town in chap 2. The collecting 3 more things (magic rocks this time) from 3 different areas branching off from a hub town for chapter 3. Then in chapter 4, things get exciting and you go and kill the big bad and then the big bad's boss.
It isn't an adventure as much as a neverending string of fetch quests. Despite that, I enjoyed it but BG2 is much better
Is that the girl from Buffy?
He goes through pretty turbulent arc and you get to decide where he becomes an asshole or a pure christian paladin
yeh.
pfffft BG2 has literally NO customisation next to NWN1. it;s not an RPG in the same way NWN1 is. u can argue its a fun hak n slash but thats it
Customization is meaningless if the core game is as bad as NWN1.
With multiplayer servers permanently gone, there's literally no reason to ever touch it again.
>muh customization
Nice to know that in anno domini 2017 retards still think RPG is about adorning trinkets on your character
oops triggered a couple of babbies
honestly i was thinking of a different game to BG2 but judging from ur reactino its just as shit as the game im thinking of and i wont drop the $20 on it for the stream enhanced version
babbbbies
it's fine, not bad at all. I enjoyed the hell out of it when I played it age 14 or whatever. but its main attractions were
>travelling around FR
>killing monsters with big flashy spells
>levelling up and optimizing your character
none of which are really interesting to people who've played D&D-based games or anything of the like before
the overall story in NWN1 was kind of dull, the whole thing was kind of linear, and the characters were utterly forgettable (other than cleavage elf and that black guy with a deep voice)
i bet ur one of those ppl who just run thru the game as quick as possible, there was a fair bit to take in with NWN1 considering its age, good attnetntion to detail
im gonna stream NWN1 singleplayer 1 day n ill post it on v ill teach u all how to have fun playing NWN1
Are you a passerby from reddit or just playing the tard card?
why cant i not be from reddit but also retarded u cuck?
nice try my dude, but I played through the OC several times while autistically completing every sidequest and reading basically every bit of lore
even nostalgia isn't strong enough to blind the fact that it was a pretty average campaign
yeah but the water graphics for NWN1 were really ahead of their timne you have to admit
>Houserule: no berserker allowed in any way
that's stupid
berserker is average at best compared to any fighter/mage
>reddit spacing
is there any fucking question?
Are you thinking of barbarian?
I think you posted the wrong pic, friend.
>So fucking boring I can't even bother finishing the opening dungeon that drags on for fucking forever
>Mod to skip the opening dungeon doesn't even work
Baldur's Gate II sucks.
On a hardcore run, Berserker is literally unstoppable when paired in a multiclass. It literally breaks the game and defeats the purpose of doing a HC run.
>Berserker/Mage
>Berserker/Cleric
>Berserker/Cleric
>Berserker/Fighter
>Berserker/Thief
>Berserker/Druid
Siege of Dragonspear was terrible.
You can't multiclass with a kit you dork.
"I meant dual class, sorry.
2nd Edition D&D was weird.
>DURRRRRRR U DONT PRESS ENTER THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF TIMES I DO IN THE SAME PLACES I DO U MUST BE FROM REDDIT
read that and ask yourself, whos the real retarD?
But he is right. Original NVN campaign was pretty mediocre compared to BG2, game was praised mostly for great mod support and online community.
See Beat me by 11 seconds.
i havent even played bg2 thought i did but was thinking of a different game
regardless will not concede BG2 is greater than NWN1 just based off the responses to my responses in this thread desu
and that 11 seconds was your downfall, now weep as all can see that you made a perilous error in incorrectly naming a confusing mechanic
