ITT: Video Game Theories that you still believe

Squall was fucking dead after disc 1, I don't care if others say it's wrong, I don't care if the writers "debunked" it.

Once you sit down and analyze it, squall actually died

I remember that thumbnail but not the video, post link.

I wish I could say one that I believe, but I'm drawing a complete blank.

Either way, I actually do love vidya theories, even if they're complete bullshit. They're fun to consider.

sorry but you are incorrect.
you're also stupid for refusing to drop it

>you are incorrect
>on something that is open to interpretation

>this was literally in the ending cutscene
fucking spooked me first time

the indoctrination theory.
fuck mac walters, that's the real end of shepard's story
;_;

fucking this!

It's not. You're genuinely retarded if you completed FF8 and you perceived it to be open to interpretation. Replay it after taking your ritalin.

I like the one that Skull Kid is the Termina version of Link. No idea if it's true.

Rinoa is Ultimecia

>refuted by the word of God
>"s-sstill open to int-terpretation!"

Just like the Bible in real life.
Checkmate atheists.

...The writers actually never said anything about this theory

R=U

This is a recent theory for RE7 I'm subscribed to.

The main character Ethan is actually a former Umbrella scientist. The name Ethan W appears in a list of top ranking scientists in RE5, Ethan easily mixes chemicals together with no struggle, he's married to a woman who works for an unnamed evil science group, he has no real questions when he's told he needs to mix weird dead baby juices together to make a cure, and when he is saved by the now mercenary group Umbrella Co. at the end of the game he says "what took you guys so long?" as if he might know these guys already. But my favorite part about this theory is that it explains why Ethan is so fucking calm through most of the game, because he knows about crazy zombies and monsters, and they don't surprise him.

Of course Ethan W is supposed to be dead but for my headcanon's sake I like to assume that he bribed his way to freedom.

it's an interesting theory but the neverending cycle of Squall vs Ultimecia is the better story

Is there a theory to explain why FFIX fell apart after the second disk too?

I see this one as plausible

I'm pretty sure Rinoa is canonically NOT Ultimecia and I never understood why.

>on something that is open to interpretation
The writers have said it's not true.

The only thing open to interpretation is whether you're retarded, a faggot, or both.

I want to believe that theory is real but I know that the Final Fantasy writers are not that good.
If that theory is real it would put FFVIII way above the FF standards.

>If that theory is real it would put FFVIII way above the FF standards.
Yeah, "it was a dream all along" is the epitome of writing. Every story that uses it is always hailed as a masterpiece, right?
You people are fucking insane.

I posted this theory in every FF8 bread until I someday just forgot about it.

>"it was a dream all along"

If thats all you can understand from it then that's your problem.

The writer and director already said 'Nope' to it so the only theory left for you is 'Rinoa is Ultimicia' which they said nothing about it.

The "R=U" has been semi-NOPE'd as well in the FF8 Ultimania guide or whatever the japanese guide is called. While not directly nope'd by the developers, the guide's lore chapters are as close as canon info from the developers as you can get.

What more is there to undestand here than poor attempts at making FFVIII out to be Vanilla Sky.

No, it wouldn't. The story is bad in FF8 and the fact that fans need to develop theories about it to save it is more proof of the story's shittiness.

You should ask yourself why only bad stories get outrageous theories to accompany them.

What is this "Rinoa is Ultimicia" theory?

Not how it works either chumpy. They're on a new, ultimecia free timeline

I thought Ultimecia having Griever confirmed that she is Rinoa
Why would she not be Rinoa

How can you confirm or debunk that theory anyway? How does the game's narrative suggest the idea that Squall is dead? The two interpretations of Squall really going through all those events because he's alive and him merely dreaming all of it are indistinguishable from each other which renders the latter quite pointless. Squall having visions as magic and time are collapsing around him is not good enough because time travel and magic were already introduced in disc 1. If you're just writing fanfics based on cool FMV imagery you could argue that Squall died after the game's intro because he got hurt in a fight and wakes up after being treated for his wounds. Does that make the story more interesting? No.

What is genuinely interesting is how discs 1, 2 and 3 all open in the same manner but the context keeps changing because of how Squall's character arc progresses. Nobody has written theories about that of course, because it requires literacy instead of making shit up.

Ah, so it's a Nope-Nope, I see.

DaS2 is non canon

It assumes that Rinoa becomes Ulti in the future/another time. The basic and only point towards that is that Ulti has Griever, something only Rinoa should know of.

Of course giving that Ulti loves to manipulate time, it can also mean millions of different things.

Gray Fox is Venom Snake and Venom Snake's real name is Frank Jaeger, but he changed it when he wanted to be big boss. He stopped when the cybernetics came in and was killed by solid snake.

If that's the only piece of evidence it's quite a silly theory then.

Translation errors. Ultimecia doesn't have Griever, she creates it in the bossfight and pulls the design from Squall's mind.

It is but FF8 fans seem to be grasping at straws to make the story seem deeper than it actually is.

Rinoa also finds Squall when he is somewhere lost in time or whatever that was and Ulti was a witch that did time stuff

>something only Rinoa should know of
Remember when Ultimecia possessed Rinoa? I guess Rinoa doesn't either if she's Ultimecia, lol. For a mastermind who orchestrated every major event she sure was gonna destroy her own body and paradox her ass out of existence.

Stop implying I need to play the game to develop theories.

The idea is that by Junctioning GFs Ultimecia has forgotten she's Rinoa.

The actual argument that people usually say is that Ultimecia can't be Rinoa since sorceresses have limited life span. This can be easily bypassed by cryofreezing (an act anyone against Rinoa are demonstrated to go for). The fact is that Ultimecia has black wings and Rinoa white is the argument Square-Enix has gone for and that's that.

Death Stranding is actually MGS5, wait for E3 fags!

The Scan says it's pulled from Squall's mind, but doesn't specify when. There's wiggle room to say it had happened long ago already.

Play The Ringed City mah nigga

That's so lazy. Rinoa and Ultimecia are both sorceresses and have wings, so they are the same person? All the sorceresses have some shit coming out their back. Edea has that wheel-curtain thing and Adel has wing shaped spikes. Rinoa's wings being different color can also be read as her NOT being Ultimecia, but I guess that's too obvious. And nothing explains why Ultimecia doesn't give a shit about seeing Squall again. No amount of GF abuse made Squall forget about Ellone because it was a strong memory, you'd think a sorceress who doesn't need GFs to use magic or be powerful would remember the one thing she really cared about.

It's a strong possibility.

It's from the post final boss fmv

But then you'd once again commit the error of ignoring the context. The Griever GF is created by Ultimecia, based on something in Squall's mind, and appears in the second stage of the final boss. The most obvious conclusion is that it's created at that moment because you have all the necessary elements together and a good reason for it to happen (Ultimecia attempting to defend herself by making Squall literally fight his own grief).

>Rinoa and Ultimecia are both sorceresses and have wings, so they are the same person?

Well they are similar wings and Rinoa and Ultimecia have the same model. Also are superimposed on each other in the ending FMV. However just because the wings are different color S-E says they're totally different people. They have never offered another argument.

Rinoa still uses GFs during the game post-sorceresshood and Griever shows that Ultimecia uses them too. Based on the theory Ultimecia has had GFs junctioned for hundreds of years (much longer than Squall) and basically thawed out Tabula Rasa. Nevertheless attempting Time Kompression can be seen as wanting to see Squall again unconsciously.

That's why I said wiggle room. If Square-Enix made a sequel based on the premise, it would be acceptable. I personally don't think R=U or Squall is dead. VIII has the worst story ever created in my opinion instead, its normal story.

>attempting Time Kompression can be seen as wanting to see Squall again unconsciously.
Alright but can you refer to anything in the game that suggests this? Ultimecia is already given actual motives by the narrative that don't require flimsy leaps based on misunderstood similiarities between characters. People are taking symbolism and themes too literally. Throughout the game Ultimecia tries to destroy Squall, while Rinoa tries to save him. They are competing forces, and the visions in the ending FMV are just the echoes of this battle.

The writers are wrong

Wasnt there somethng in the line of Ultimecia having Rinoa-named weapons as her best in Dissidia or something?

That's just an example of devs being cheeky, it's just like R=U theorists to take the joke seriously.

nigga you stupid

What did they mean by this?

No one in the game was born at the beginning of time so hell if I know. It's just romantic nonsense I guess.

Jaina is a druglord

Don't be so literal, it's like arguing with people who don't get MGS2.

Time Compression enables the beginning of time to intertwine with the end of time. All of this is Ultimecia's doing, as she was waiting SeeD from time untold.

Isn't that a literal interpretation too?

Kanji isn't gay.

the voice actor or whatever doesn't know shit, making him gay would go past everything about his character.

He fucks Naoto, of course he isn't gay.

>Alright but can you refer to anything in the game that suggests this?

No.

Well she healed his impalement once. I guess the 'Reflect on your childhood' thing is addressing Squall (or herself) directly instead of her other lines being general speeches to no one in particular. (If I were to accept the theory, I would say Squall is completely forgotten by her.)

>Throughout the game Ultimecia tries to destroy Squall

Mostly Ultimecia is only interested in Ellone and the party is inconsequential to her in my opinion. Ultimecia is no Exdeath attempting to take their lives each time.

All in all it's just a different reading of the story and gives Ultimecia and Squall a direct connection, if you choose to believe that. Just harmless fun musings. It's pretty common in the series. Like Terra and Celes being raped in VI or the Crystal carrying memories from previous FF worlds into IX explaining the callbacks as plot relevant.

I love how nobody notices that in the final battle after time compression, Ultimecia who has now gathered all the previously scattered fragments of God Hyne, get's taken over by him and becomes his lower body ( he gave his original half to the humans to fool them into thinking that he will share his power with them when in truth the half he gave them was an empty shell).

Ultimecia is such a sad fucking being, she set in motion the very events that would bring her demise.

Her sole purpose of time compression was to retrieve God Hynes power and become a Goddess herself only to be overwhelmed by his power and be sealed in his lower body.

And she is forced to repeat the same mistake over and over.

>pic related

Are those nipples?

Destroy was maybe a bit misleading but Ultimecia is in general a negative force that corrupts or destroys things dear to Squall and eventually attempts to kill him in a direct confrontation, multiple times, because Squall has decided to take action against her. The game's story is about Squall and is presented from his perspective and as such Ultimecia's actions bringing misery to others isn't as relevant or deserving of screentime. Going back to my point of Rinoa being the opposing, positive force, she's also the only party member besides Squall who confronts Ultimecia on her own. It and Rinoa becoming a sorceress gives some weight to the idea that she and Ultimecia are equals in a sense. It's fascinating that Ultimecia fails to kill her twice, Rinoa is both times saved by Squall of course but her existence appears to be persistent and powerful enough to defy even Ultimecia. I emphasize: this doesn't make them literally the same character, it makes them opposing halves. That's what people fail to see.

wow, is that god ever mentioned outside of optional dialogue with random npcs?

>How can you confirm or debunk that theory anyway?
When the writers confirm or deny it.

Ultimania, along with Ultimecias true reason for time compression.

>made me read the equivalent of an LN on ff Wikia on the great sorceress Hyne
Thanks. This was pretty eye opening. So all the sorceresses are girls despite Hyne being a dude because of spoiler reasons. They predicted hormonal imbalance that results from mixing male and female parts. The only time when a man's lineage would be named under the female form (Hyne, the first) sorceress.

Apparently no.
finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Great_Hyne

And in turn that actually reminds me a lot of Anima from FFX. Whether that means anything or it's just re-using the concept is up in the air, though

Eorzea is the origin world of Omega from Final Fantasy V. He was created by Allagans and has the ability to dimension hop and that has me believe that Final Fantasy XIV is Omega's origin game.

> So all the sorceresses are girls despite Hyne being a dude because of spoiler reasons.

The reason was that in Hynes age women were beings to be protected, thus Hyne thought that if he hides his power inside women there are more chances for survival.

Stop being such a cynical prick, this entire lore is canon and it's pretty fucking important to ff8. The game has a shitty writing which is why you have to speak to 2 random npcs and read the fucking Japanese ultimania to learn of all this.

I just said its spoilers because even I didn't know, despite reaching the end of FF8 and would like others to learn about what you stated.
I'm not being cynical, but you did state that
>nobody notices that in the final battle after time compression, Ultimecia who has now gathered all the previously scattered fragments of God Hyne,
So I don't want to steal your donut even if it is true.
I'd like to know what you mean by fragments though. I thought he only split himself into two parts.

>Another pop up shows up on anons screen
>The Edea and Seifer DLC which adds them to your party is now available for purchase 24.99$

>The Ultimecia bikini DLC skin is now available for purchase for 14.99$
>The Laguna DLC is now available for purchase... etc. etc
>Anons feet dangle from the celeing

>I'd like to know what you mean by fragments though. I thought he only split himself into two parts.

Thousands of years have passed since he split his body.

Years after than people started discriminating against the Sorceresses and hunting them down.

Lots of them died and along with them the part of Hynes power they had inherited.

the only way for Hynes power to become one again was time compression.

Compressing time and absorbing it would allow Ultimecia to gather all the fragmented power from the past and future in one point in time.

>I thought he only split himself into two parts.
He didn't pass his power to only one person, he hid himself in multiple females and his power was passed down from generation to generation.
