I set it up just tonight with the g27 and some friends over after boardgame night finished up. Was fun taking turns to see who could go the fastest. Curious though, is there ONLY randomly generated maps now? They look good, sure. But it feels a bit weak compared to finely crafted preset maps. I was under the impression randomly generated maps would be a feature but not the only thing.
I do play it. Get on multiplayer for some fun shit motherfuckers.
Didnt they just make a Dirt game? I dont give a shit about either but this seems rushed.
it's not as good as Dirt Rally so idk why they even released this. i guess for normies who need that retarded extra-grippy physics that have no place in a game about racing on RALLY TRACKS
Dirt Rally was a test to see if there was interest in a Rally sim as well as a test of their engine. It was officially finished December 2015. I suppose you could say they kept updating it up to the official release of their console version later in April, but those updates were extremely minor compared. Rally was basically done a year and a half ago and even before that was sitting in early access for quite a while.
Dirt 4 is going to be more of their flagship for the series now, probably getting more post release content and such.
race games suck
>why the fuck you not play this?
I hate racing games. I can barely play GTA games because of all the cars.
>Rewind button.
You're a fucking scrub mate, go play the next instalment of EA's Need for Speed: retard sick drift edition.
Because its just more arcadey bullshit. Pirated it, then almost instantly uninstalled it. I might pick it up for $10 max.
I'm still enjoying dirt 3
I was of this mindset until I played a sim. A "never let go of accelerate" game that gives you a button to auto drift and makes all the cars just stat differences are dull as fuck. The fun of racing is mastery of the machine and physics behind the giant hunk of metal you're riding.
I pirated it.
An user yesterday complained about how even on simulation steering it felt like it was on-rails. I kind of agree. It's not literally on-rails but it sure as fuck doesn't feel like you have full control of the car. It feels like it steers itself at points.
Dirt Rally is better. I'm gonna stick with that.
Worse than Dirt Rally
t. bottom tier casual babbs
No oculus rift support and none announced.
Runs like shit on any Nvidia hardware below the 1070 at the minute. Need to wait for them to fix it.
>An user yesterday complained about how even on simulation steering it felt like it was on-rails. I kind of agree. It's not literally on-rails but it sure as fuck doesn't feel like you have full control of the car. It feels like it steers itself at points.
Codemasters implemented new braking physics that differentiate more between straight line braking and slide braking. Braking in straight to a corner gives you shit tons more grip. It was in Dirt Rally but the effect wasn't as pronounced and slide braking/handbrake turns were more effective on what routes they designed. I don't get the bitching about it. It's the same as DIRT Rally except your grip levels are way more noticeable going into corners if you straight line brake. You are just more aware of braking in having different effects when the game tells you "Here's how to get more grip" in the Rally School section.
Ive been pretty much playing the game nonstop since Friday. Only stopped to watch EA's press conference. I really don't understand why the fanbase is so split on this one. The aero is better, the weight distribution is better, the suspension is better, the damage model is better, and the inertia is better, but its somehow not a sim but Dirt Rally is? I feel like 12 years of RBR is tainting people opinion and people miss the "Press this to tokyo drift" button. Also no one seems to actually set up their cars for some reason. Codies should have added more cars and locations though, more eastern european and african countries.
Torrent is slow as shit because of leechers
This really is a case of Sup Forums just being painfully Sup Forums about something new. Between the horribly inarticulate opinion and how completely disconnected from any facts the complaints are, it's not hard to see what's just shitposting.
>ask if they will make another game soon after dirt rally
>people call me a retard and say it just came out
>buy dirt rally
those fuckers didn't even make htc vive support
not buying the same game again
Enjoy Dirt Rally, friendo. I hope you got it on sale. It should be fine while you wait for Dirt 4 to go on sale.
The R2 cars (first cars you start the career with) are an absolute bore to drive, but stick with it and get to the Group A cars and you'll be having a blast again with flashbacks to Dirt Rally
The sim fans need to chill the fuck out. Dirt Rally's "simulation" was not realistic at all. Was it fun and challenging on Dirt Rally's "Everything is ice" physics? Hell yeah, but no rally car actually slides that much, and the cars literally had no weight to them, which Dirt 4 fixes. I agree That Dirt 4 is a bit too grippy right now, but Codies can definitely tweak those levels.
Also just want to say FUCKING FOG STAGE BULLSHIT CAN'T SEE 10 FEET IN FRONT OF YOU REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
hella fun and intense as fuck though
It's hilarious to compare these with threads a couple years ago where Rally was being called "Like playing in syrup" with way too much grip. Everyone is so god damn awful at talking about driving that it's basically opposite day every day. Between the horrifically overblown opinions to the people who know jack shit about driving and mixed with the people who can't remember a god damn thing to draw any real factual comparisons just going with how they "feel", these threads are a complete shitshow.
The physics are fine you fuckers. I went strait from playing Rally to this and outside of some added little touches, all my experience with Rally transfered into 4 perfectly fine and am driving just as good as ever.
Agreed. I think there's a bit too much grip, and the snapping back to a straight line after inducing oversteer is too strong. But, other than that, I think everything else is improved over DR.
For the people who say D4 is on rails and is to easy, I'm curious where they're ranking on the leaderboards in comparison to DR. For me, I'm the exact same on both.
So this is my first Dirt game. I actually really fucking love it.
But- Why does the game look like shit? It has the visual qualities of a Last Gen Remaster.
Wipeout Omega is better. If that had not launched the same month I would have grabbed it.
Codies refuses to use a new engine. This is the same engine that powered Race Driver: GRID and the original DIRT 10 years ago, just with updated physics.
So is there really any difference between 4 and rally? Other than having some extra vehicles and trophy trucks?
Partially it's just not their focus. While I wish the rain left more realistic droplets on the windshield and little details that would actually matter, they just know they can't beat big AAA racers in the area of delivering car porn and mega texture roads.
Another part of it however is the randomly generated assets. Things always look worse when they have to do that.
>you actually have to drive up and stop at the Marshal now
Based devs
4 feels better. Its really the main selling point, that and the procedural generation. Rally felt really samey after 100 hours and the main request was more tracks so they fixed that. Really the main draw is the better physics and future updates. Yeah that sounds stupid, but if you're crazy about simracing 60 bucks for a physics update isnt too far fetched. Ive paid more for less.
no Trans Am
Dirt Rally was kind of boring. I can't see why I'd get this.
I prefer street races anyway.
>Physics update
>Make the physics worse
I don't get it.
Dirt 4 feels like Dirt 2 and 3 mixed with Dirt Rally. And don't worry none of the DUDEBRO-ness carried over in Dirt 4.
Completely revamped career mode which is honestly neat as fuck. I like the podium finishes and building your team feels so nice now over Dirt Rally's Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet team management system.
You can also customize your car and create your own liveries and choose which sponsorship to get and put their decals on your car.
I haven't touched Rallycross and the Buggy racing yet, but they're in there too.
The game just honestly feels like a fleshed out Dirt Rally with more cars and more to do.
I just wish they improved the Replay system. The one thing I really wanted them to touch up, and they didn't. It's the exact same replay system that was in Dirt Rally and I hated it. The cameras are all too far and they never get appealing shots of your car. I really wanted the game to have a photo editor, where you could just simply pause the game, go into photo mode, and with a freecam style thing, fly around your car, adjust contrast/color depth of field etc. and take pics of. Think of Forza Motorsport or Euro Truck Simulator 2/American Truck Simulator's systems. Let me take good screenshots of your cars damn it Codies.
I disagree with your opinion but completely respect it. Sometimes I like street racers too but generally prefer rally games. Have a nice day user :)
eh i'm not done with dirt rally at all so i don't see the point in paying full price for 4
>watching Dirt 4 videos on youtube
>literally every person has those shitty pacenote icons on that show them what to do.
FUCK OFFFFFFFF
I'm barely in this at all so far and haven't gotten much into campaign mode. Do they have non procedural generated tracks? I honestly miss Dirt Rally from all the free play random tracks I've done. The roads end up seemingly being all the same where as Rally could transition from road to dirt to gravel and such in a logical way that was interesting, and turning complexity up seems to just create an evenly distributed amount of turns across the board. There's no like part where it gets really sharp and a strait away in the middle or anything like that. It's good for what it is, but I really hope this isn't the only shit I get to play.
>have to
or you can just launch your car over the berm and it will force the event.
But yeah, it's neat.
Nope. Procedural only. I thought they were going to port over the maps from Dirt Rally but apparently not. Also the campaign is really, really short. They way the game is structured it's basically an extended tutorial. Its obvious they wanted free play to serve as the main meat of the game since progression carries into it and from championship to championship. But hey dude don't give up hope they could add back the Dirt Rally tracks as DLC.
Is it a gymkhana ken block infested piece of shit like dirt 3?
because dirt rally was better
I just hope they fine tune the track generator to live up to the procedural part of their name. Right now it feels like a raw random number generator. With some adjustments, I could see this making more logical tracks with more interesting results.
garbage opinion
Nope. Back to more traditional rally. Rallycross has gotten the backseat. It's no Colin Mcrae or Sega Rally, but it's something.
Questions about the Sim and Gamer modes in the game.:
1. Can you make two profiles, one for each mode?
2. Can you switch modes?
3. Can you play online with people who have a different mode?
Nope just one profile.
You can switch modes at the beginning of any race. You can't switch mid-race, but at the start of every race you can change the difficulty (gamer and simulation is in the difficulty section)
And nope, you're always playing versus people with the same mode as you. Gamer and Sim each have their own leaderboards
Thanks for the detailed response user.
thanks for clearing up
I don't play games that don't use Denuvo
Also pro tip for anyone starting out
Immediately switch co-driver in the team menu.
Jen (the female voice) is.... strange. I can't put my finger on it but her voice sounds out of place.
Nicky Grist is by far the better co-driver. He was Colin McRae's co-driver for a reason
and for the love of god pay attention to your co-driver's pace notes. His voice is your guiding beacon
Are you fucking 12?
no
Post your Rallyfu
Yes, because some of us have wives who won't shut the fuck up as soon as you start a race, so need visual cues.
Seriously, silence while I'm in the loading screens, but as soon as my co driver starts counting down the start, she starts spouting bullshit.
...
I don't like simulations. Ilike arcade.
>he doesn't have a racing box (with a door) that he can sit in and pretend he's a real racer while hiding from all family distractions
Do you even racing vidya m8
I know it makes me less hardcore, but I like music when playing. There's no way to get the audio balance perfect, so I just leave it on for the small bit of extra information in case audio gets lost in my mix I have going.
I don't mind Nicky. She does her job reading notes and nothing about her inhibits your driving. But on that second part, yeah. There's a reason pro drivers needs their readers. In order to exceed 60 miles an hour, you're gonna need someone telling you what's up next.
That's fucking tip top mate.
I need to step my game up.
The only thing it's missing is a little curtain to jerk shut for dramatic effect.
i enjoy this video but the stratos is still epic
Needs a car door.
I don't feel like I need a whole box. I already have a G27 and a nice stand for it. My only bother is the lack of a hand brake. I have to just keep it on a button sadly which bugs me, but other than a literal car seat, I've got everything I need.
>no indian co-driver that yells and argues with me
Took mines, but this is the next best thing.
Played whole night.
I liked team managment, but driving felt off.
I liked Dirt Rally a lot, but this game doesnt have that depth and dynamic. All the tracks feel unreasonably bumpy and artificial, even asphalted roads. Dont think any of this is handcrafted.
But even with shitty roads there less situations for rewind button, i dont feel road or car at all and cant speed up.
most of the subaru shit is good but this one was my favorite
words of a true homosexual.
>And this is my husbands room. He's really into racing video games
olev
...
Installed it yesterday, why is the graphics so shit? Did dirt 3 have a bigger budget or something?
.
performs worse than dirt rally and looks worse than it
so i might aswell just play dirt rally instead
that thing is exhausting so much heat it melted the clock on the wall.
I got Dirt Rally in the humble monthly and played it for a while. I'm not good at it but had some fun, particularly the Finland stages were great.
Then tried to go back to Dirt 3 and it was basically unplayable, the handling felt so bad and simplistic in comparison.
I was a bit excited for Dirt 4 at first but now I'm worried it's too close to 3 for me to be able to enjoy it.
It has no mouselook so i cant Play it in vr
I don't want to play a "real" racing game without a wheel. A wheel would be even more clutter I don't want or need.
kek
Well, allow me to begin by listing the reasons why I
nice cuck shed
>fog stage
>pace notes comms start fucking up
>Download F1 2016 demo
>It's really good
>Don't want to pay full price for the game when F1 2017 will be out in a few months
Also, is VR support going to be standard now that Dirt Rally has it? Playing F1 in VR would be the most pant-shitting experience ever.
I bought it but haven't played it yet
I hear its shit compared to rally
So how it is compared to Dirt?
Who was in the wrong here?
It's worse than Dirt Rally. I've never refunded a game so quickly.
I tried driving an F1 car in Asetto Corsa's VR. Shit was intense. But I feel Dirt Rally VR had more feel as your stomach thinks you're actually going down a steep hill.
whats wrong with antialiasing jesus christ
no vr. will be playing dirt rally vr till dirt 4 gets it but even then I hear its more arcadey than rally
>complain about the new game being too easy
>t. bottom tier casual babbs
sims are boring.
ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS LISTEN, SAMIR!
>you will never have this guy voicing your GPS navigation
why even live
A lot of track driving is, but seriously:
>cockpit view
>turn off all HUDS
>turn off all driving assists
>turn up volume
>go crazy in your Impreza literally flying through the bumpy Finnish forests in the beautiful afternoon light with the constant sound of gravel hitting the car almost drowning out the navigator
It's a great feeling that you can appreciate even without trying to be competitive, or having an elaborate setup.
I think you're misunderstanding OP. He's saying the LACK of a rewind button is a GOOD THING.
