Why can't they make a new one better than 3?
>implying
5 was decent.
The development team that was behind 3 have long since left. Like the rest of Ubisoft's franchises, Might and Magic only exists to be whored out for a couple of quick bucks.
I hope that hostile takeover attempt collectively fucks that entire company in the ass.
Because there's no way they would stick to not compromising, and that's absolutely required to make a game as good as 3
Just imagine how it would go now
>we need 8 towns
>eeh, no way we're doing that, 5 is enough, right? It won't make it a worse game!
>we need 7 resources
>>eeh, no way we're doing that, 4 is enough, right? It won't make it a worse game!
And again and again, this happens to every remake or modern entry in a great series, they just settle
What if they just skimped on graphics and left that mediocre and 2d?
If it wasnt for Uplay and the long loading times,
I wouldnt mind installing and playing it again.
Wait what? 5 doesn't need Uplay last I played it. There's even a GOG version.
>playing HoMM with a steering wheel
Care to explain?
>he uses a steering wheel to play homm
If you got it on steam, it requires uplay.
This image will always amuse me, no matter how often I see it. It's a true masterwork of our time.
>not using a steering wheel to play HoMM
Plebs
How do I git gud at HoMM?
I always feel like a retard because my armies get destroyed in like two battles.
Where are you getting this from? I just saw the store page for it and it only says the mutliplayer was shut down, there's no mention of having to use Uplay.
I played homm 5 yesterday and I never had uplay installed ever
New World Computing is long since dead.
>Why can't they make a new one better than 3?
Because the game is fucking outdated is why. In our age of session multiplayer games, easy-access arena shooters and MOBAs slower, methodical games like strategies and MMORPGs are going away and TBS was never that huge in the first place. It's a gaseous sell to PC users. It could probably see some life on mobile devices, but otherwise you're selling to people who are already fans of the TBS genre and that's not such a big population.
But if you try to sell to TBS fans, then you need to ask yourself, why even make a new game? What is it going to bring in comparison with H3 which that crow is already playing religiously? It's pretty hard to compete - H3 launches in seconds and H7 takes 4 minutes before you even get to play because of all the clients and loading screens. H3 has easy editor that even a kid would understand and new games basically ship with dev editors. H3 has all that custom content made over the years and H7 has nothing. H3 has functional multiplayer (with reservations) and H7 devs don't know how to code a simple net connection. H3 has 8+ factions with good range of options and no game since shipped with as many factions because of art assets cost.
tl;dr the franchise is not very appealing in the modern days and if you make a new game you'd have to do at least as good as H3 and H5 and that's a pretty tough task if you're resolved to work with modern assets and technologies
Why did Ubisoft even buy the Might and Magic brand after 3DO died if they were just going to farm it out to shitty slav devs instead of making it inhouse
I want to get back into IV again. Any advice anons?
Wait for those Russians to finish the HD/widescreen mod.
If you run it on modern systems set the display mode to High Color (16 bit) or else the engine will drop frames left and right. If you're on Win10 where you can't do that (allegedly), RIP
Thanks user!
Downloading it now, to check it out, cause im pretty confident that I had to use Uplay.
Remeber one of my friends uninstalled and refunded because of Uplay.
We'll see though, would be pretty nice if I'm wrong.
Are you sure you aren't thinking of HoMM6? I don't think the Uplay client even existed when HoMM5 came out.
6 and 7 require Uplay. 5 does not.
>TBS was never that huge in the first place
During my childhood HOMM3 was THE GAME that everybody was playing, absolutely all the time
But it's in slavland
>But it's in slavland
Can confirm. I played HoMM3 and Disciples 2 constantly with friends, and on the odd occasion with some of those friends' fathers, and one of my ex-girlfriends too.
>eagle eye
just go underground xD
Maybe, dont think I've ever played it, but you were right, 5 didnt require uplay.
Guess I'll play a round of two then.
Thanks
There's a mod for Tribes of the East that lets you play the first two campaigns in its engine, get that. Afraid I don't recall the name of it myself, here's hoping some other user here does.
who would win
34 elder vampires or 7x7 behemoths?
It would honestly bet on vampires
From what you're saying it sounds like this type of genre and games need to move to a smaller budget and smaller studios. The cartoony look can definitely size down the costs, we don't need 3D graphics, H3 aged quite well with its aesthetic.
5's rotating 3d town screens were gorgeous, some spell effects too - implosion comes to mind
>See expert play campaign on hardest
>he splits his army with 1 soldier stacks to absorb attacks while outmaneuvering the enemy
>he loses no units at all, so is able to fight everything
I guess that was the secret to success .
I have a better matchup
1 Titan VS 1 Black Dragon
Whoever gets first turn wins
...
Black dragon gets first turn with its much faster speed
Why can't we have new fallouts (inb4 bethesda shit) or baldurs gates (inb4 PoE shit)? New parasite eve 2s? New FF tactics? New fucking anything that isn't terrible.
What's the best skill and why is it Eagle Eye?
What were they thinking when they put that in the game ? Even if it was an artifact in the most useless slot it wouldn't be worth taking
Maybe if they combined it with the one where you take spells from other heroes on your team, and maybe let you also learn spells from non-heroes like units that cast spells too it might be slightly less worthless.
Units that cast spells weren't in 3. In all my time playing there's been only one time that learning spells from other heroes was useful and even that requires you to have expert wisdom. Those skills are such trash, its like they designed all those simple yet effective might hero skills like armorer, archery, and offense and then were hard pressed to come up with an equal number of skills a magic hero would use
>Units that cast spells weren't in 3
What is the conflux.
some could
ogre magi could use bloodlust, djinnis could use chain lightning, angels could resurrect (or something)
Oh yeah now I remember those doofuses could cast protection spells. That wasn't all that useful honestly but ogre shaman's spell on the other hand was good
The Ice, wind and fire all casted offensive spells too.
I think WoG made Eagle Eye fizzle enemy heros' casts with % chance
