After giving Tekken 7 a try i realized how much fighting games have changed.
1) There is no longer any unlockable content, such as new characters, new arenas, extra game mods and other various secrets.
2) All the fighting games ate now a softcore pr0ne.

Good. I'm fine with unlockables in a singleplayer game but having them in something where you're meant to spend the majority of your time in multiplayer is fucking stupid. Last thing I ever wanna deal with again is having to do some bullshit cheese like leaving the training mode all night while I sleep just to unlock characters in MVC2.

Someone should make a specific platform for these then. Fighting games are lighter on hardware than most other games, therefore open lots of computing power to be used elsewhere. Also, fighting game fans that buy them for competitive gameplay/esports like the fanservice(fapservice?).
The basic reason is - once upon a time, fighting games were popular because you could've play them competitively on a fucking couch, organize tournaments with your family/friends and so on. They've had single player and it was meant for those times you didn't have anybody else to play with.
Nowadays people buy them for esports and fapservice. As such more "abstract" multiplayer modes(volletball for instance) don't make sense anymore and single player and unlocking is just a drag for people who want to hop into online play on day 1.
