You meed to play your first few rounds as Assistant to learn the culture and general nature of things, and then to actually start holding a job and being responsible for it, go to Janitor and eventually to Chef. Those two will teach you how to really play the game through experience.

It's pretty silly how people get murdered for using a mop in my opinion.

And I do something similar to what you were saying. I intentionally do things worthy of perma, see how long I can dodge sec, then break out of perma after I'm inevitably apprehended. After that, I try my hardest to lay low, usually making a hideout in maint or going deep undercover. It's incredibly fun.
