Retro senior staff left a long time ago, and they lost their edge. Imagine Prime continuing down the slippery cinematic slope that Prime 3 started, then go play Halo 4 - the most recent game fielded by senior Retro staff.

You realize that slipperly slope is LITERALLY a fallacy? Only Prime 3 was cinematic and it focused less on story than Fusion did.

Still, kinda exited to see a non-Retro Prime game. Just a lil' concerned too.

Tanabe was on every Prime game. The issue with him is he has very low standards. If the dev team under him is good, the game will be good, and that's end of story. But if he has a weak dev team under him and they give him a shit but technically sound game he'll think it's still the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Got a few worried flashbacks to OM's auto-aim when watching the Metroid 2 remake trailer. I hope I was just seeing things. At least bomb-jumping was emphatically shown, so the developers know that much about the series.

Tanabe is in charge and it's a new high quality studio being created specifically for the project.
Nintendo has had a very good track record recently with new studios so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. It's kind of hard to fuck up the prime formula too since it's so genius, at worst it would be MP3 levels which is still GOTY material.

Yes, its a slippery slope. But does that make him wrong? Prime 3 was clearly inferior to 1 and 2. Having a GAME focus more on gameplay rather then cutscenes, especially in Metroid Prime where it has multiple mediums to tell the story/lore without interrupting gameplay is what we need.

The Metroid Prime 4 announcement legit sent shivers down my spine. There isn't much else to say about it, since they just showed the title.

I'm slightly concerned about Samus Returns. I think style-wise it could look better, the fact that Mercury "Castlevania: Mirror of Fate" Steam is developing it has me a bit worried, and so far the platforming looked a bit bland.
It looks a bit Other M-y, but it's not like it looks terrible; unless they show something truly devastatingly awful I'll keep my hopes up. Really happy it's coming out so soon.

That being said, I personally hope MP4 isn't the same as the previous games. It should have both a first person mode and a third person mode, with the ability to switch between both. Samus also should be able to run and use all her skills.

And there should also be a Justin Bailey mode.
