Rare is running several Alpha test sessions for Sea of Thieves this week and I'm playing all of them, AMA
Sea of Thieves
How do you choose your character in the current Alpha?
Is it more fun than Skull and Bones? Friend and I looking for a co-op pirate game to play and need to know which one is comfier.
Is it fun/playable?
Have you ever sucked a dick? what did it taste like if you have?
Why would I play this instead of Skull and Bones?
too bad it needs w10 that's bullshit
Is the game good for solo player or you need a group of friends?
if you are a retard that perfers less over more then I guess that game is perfect for you.
Is this game for kids?
What do you do with the dosh you earn? Is there armor, weapons, ship upgrades?
What a stupid fucking question. Of course it'll be better than fucking Skull and Bones. Just play blackwake
There is none of that atm. Its alpha. You cant do shit with money.
Is it PVP or PVE or a hybrid or what?
The game looks really fun for just discovering the ins and outs of crewing a ship and finding treasure but once that novelty wears off I worry there won't be any mid-end game goal.
Besides plundering, what's the goal? There has to be something.
Can I stick my dick up your ass first?
Slightly salty with a hint of bitterness for the most part. Precum can be subtly sweet but not consistently.
Its PvP mostly. Skeleton combat is nothing really. Its adventure. You seek treasure by solving riddles and puzzles. You can also just destroy other adventurers and steal from them.
No, you're too fucking stupid you probably don't know your dick from your nose you dumb cunt.
>oh this absolutely shit tier ship battle game is going to be just as good as an actual pirate game
Your lack of problem solving is a sure sign of high tier autism and you should kill yourself
>AMA
>not using tripcode
What are you doing?
>AMA
>Doesn't answer question
It's a LOT more personal than Skull and Bones, kinda like Gmod or Team Fortress on a boat.
Also voice chat is proximity based so you can actually talk to other people you meet.
Yes, I personally landed a human cannonball shot on another ship this afternoon
Nothing yet, they've mostly got us trying the ship and sailing elements first, which makes sense considering you spend a lot of time doing that
Rare has stated the final product will have merchantile and bounty hunting options, think kinda like EVE without the P2W
We dont know yet. There are some sort of chapters being completed after you take enough treasures and sell them. But after final chapter you just go back to first. Many buildings at outposts are still closed and you can only buy grog or sell treasures and there is like 10 more buildings on each outpost .
This is my first
Nice.
Can you lose your ship easily?
Like sink it and everything's gone or get boarded and the enemy makes off with all your stuff.
Rolling
Can you answer this?
Can you customize the look of your character currently, or is it just randomly generated?
EVE doesn't have p2w
Rolling again
How do Crews work and stuff?
Does everyone get a ship or do you have to buy a ship and get money by working in someone's crew?
Are you tied to crews or could you run off with treasure by yourself?
Finally, how does the open world work? Is it server based or something like Destiny
combat looks not good but ship battles look alright.
A competent crew can pretty easily prevent sinking, repair and bailing is simple
They're random at this point
Your crew is randomly assembled if you don't invite friends or play with a party, and they disband after each session. Everything's really just at 'demo' stages right now
How's the pvp factor? Can you give us a rundown of the battles in general?
Are the cannon balls the most effective? I don't see yourself going against 5 like in the showcase.
Apologies, I assumed you could buy credits or whatever with real money
PVP is pretty solid honestly, you can trade shots with a single ship without either side sinking for an hour if you're gud enough. Sword is pretty handy because no reload, pistols are pocket snipers, blunderbusses are shotguns. Cannons do not kill in one hit but you do certainly know whem one connects, several skeletons nailed me from an island not unlike one of those Wind Waker lookout towers.
I don't give a shit about what you can prevent. I want to know what the lose condition is.
Is it some no risk game where everyone dying just has you pick up where you left off at a moments notice.
Do you think the game will have a good life cycle or DoA
outta my way lameass
superior pirate adventure coming through
okay
>Rare
huh, interesting
Is it open world like an mmo, or is it match based?
That's not Blackwake
>54 players online
>straight up arena PVP no open world downtime bullshit
>boarding mayham
Yeah you pretty much just talk to the mermaid and she fully restores your ship, but not before the victor has a chance to collect the (sinking) treasure chests the loser had on their ship.
You can, but it doesn't buy you skill at the game itself, so you just end up losing all your money.
Is it any better than Blackwake?
Shanties are nice and all, but can you play your own hurdy gurdy or concertina?
Can't say, haven't played.
Have you been in 3 or 4+ ffa instances?
Has the kraken appeared?
Have you played previous alphas or betas if so how are the improvements?
I see SoT as a better mp experience since you teamwork your way with the bois, while skull looks like world of warships meets pirates.
Matchmaking so far, up to 4 ships per sea
I actually got gangbanged by two ships towards the end of the session, the second one pretty much sealed our fate immediately by coming up on us mid-combat with another ship. No kraken yet but the sharks can catch you off guard, they're very reminiscent of Snacker from Banjo Kazooie and wil certainly trigger some childhood PTSD in some anons
>Matchmaking so far, up to 4 ships per sea
So you have to match up at the start? Fuck me now I'm 100% less hyped. That it was gonna be like Destiny
Thanks Pirate user. My question to you, what the concerns (anything) that the testers are seeing from playing the game? I know it's still in development, but are there concerns with the longevity of it? or anything of the such.
>DON'T MIND ME, JUST PIRATING THESE HIGH SEAS
Also I've been playing since mid March I think, so far they've added liverys/figureheads, improved graphics and additional details on islands, but E3 has been the biggest update by far, storms are impressive and two players cancoordinate a human cannonball attack with surprising ease since your buddy can aim while you're un the cannon
So how does the online work? Is it like Destiny or just more like traditional Deathmatches
So the basic game is you and your crew loading into a game, "sea", with 4 other crews. And you just plunder until maybe you encounter each other? I am most uncertain about how this game is connected.
Personally I'm just afraid of all these idiots in the alpha Club who keep saying 'add AI ships' and 'let us build bases'. This isn't Black Flag, nor is it Fallout 4
I doubt the players have THAT much influence over the vision of the game. They are probably there to see how smooth the experience is, catch any immediate bugs and test the online stability.
Yeah pretty much, you get placed in the world with your crew, and so far we've been introduced to 4 liverys (red, blue, yellow, green) so I'm inclined to believe 4 crews to a session.
>'add AI ships'
What's wrong with that exactly? Seems part of what would be in a game like this. Harmless, really.
>believe 4 crews to a session.
How can they make such a terrible decision? Especially after bragging about how big the map is. makes no sense
My thoughts exactly, since we're not spending our gold I'm guessing they're tracking gold per time played too.
Is it impossible to play it alone, will it have AI allies?
i don't have friends
I think it's foolish to believe that more means better, or that 4 isn't sufficient. You hardly know how the PVP stuff works anyway, so you can't really say that 4 is not going to be a complete experience.
probably not :(
Rare has specifically stated they want all ship-based combat to be human. Plus actually crewing the ship gets complicated sometimes, it'd be a hassle to program an AI capable of autonomously crewing a ship while also worrying about boarders.
Good news, Rare has assured us there will be a smaller ship capable of being crewed solo, likely with just a single set of guns and one mast with a manual rudder. Or you might just get a dinghy like Jack Sparrow's and half to tough it out without cannons.
They want to get an idea on how the game plays out with the current mechanics, I imagine they get more results with two 4 people instances compared to a single 8 people instance.
is this going to be a survival game?
looking at that footage, it looked like ark.
the trees and plant looked exactly like they do in ark, so im guessing you will do a lot of gathering
Reminder that I'm a pleb regarding these things; it says "exclusive to Windows 10". Is that a literal definition, or does it just an attempt to shill Windows 10?
it will only be sold in the Win 10 store.
don't post like this ever again
Better as a pirate sim maybe, the two games offer different things though. Not completely comparable.
Not exactly, you mostly just find stuff like cannonballs and planks and occasionally bananas (health item)
The main draw is treasure hunting which this game has in spades
You seem angry user
This, they're inviting like 10000 new testers each month via email, they had to find a way for thousands of us to play at once
Okay, I take it that means it is playable on older versions of windows, say for example, 7?
Anyway guys the next session is starting, thanks for your time, will put up one of these later
How the shit do I get in on the alpha I've been subscribed and signed up for fucking forever
How does the online work exactly? Is it seamless multiplayer? MMO style?
can you disable name tags on top of players?
that shit kind of ruins the immersion
