It doesn't matter if development only started somewhat recently, the simple fact that they are doing it at all is going to be enough for some people. Understandably so. Metroid is a beloved game franchise with strong aesthetic and iconic protagonist with classic gameplay. Not counting re-releases, the last Metroid Prime game was two months under a decade ago and the last proper Metroid Classic game was over 13 years ago, though that was a remake and the last truly original one was just under 15 years ago.
People are going to be understandably relieved.
