How important is good Voice Acting in a Game?
Depends on whether you can turn it off or not. Good voice acting isn't necessary for a good experience and it doesn't guarantee one, but bad voice acting can ruin something.
It doesn't need to be there, but if it's there it needs to be good.

She definitely browses vee
a good game is about balance. Voice acting, story, gameplay, graphips, sound. All this go together. Now, this doesn't mean you have to use ultrarealistic, ultra "no fun allowed" voice acting; all depends on the game. Funny, cartoony game could use a "bad" voice acting on purpose for comic relief.
tl;dr: It's important but it's one part of the cake.
Not that important, lots of classic games got away with terrible VA work.
good voice acting can save a game with less-than-amazing writing (excepting games with outright bad writing, obviously)
considering that's like 80% of them I guess it's pretty significant, although I still get salty when I can tell the budget went into big name actors and cinematics rather than better dialogue
I wonder what her toes taste like
you can make a great game without voice acting (silent protagonist and logs for story development) and still be good as hell. it's not that voice acting can save a shit game, but if you include voice acting, you have one more thing to worry about.
It isn't THAT important, but if a game has it, it really does enhance the experience. It isn't a necessity, but more a luxury. It's nice though.
It's crucial in any game that is cut scene and dialogue heavy, especially if the game wants me to give a shit about any of the characters involved in the story.
voice actors don't work as hard as programmers, modelers, animators, or artists
some times it can actually spoil a game.
Look at oblivion-skyrim rpg and dialogue compared to morrowind.
The addition of VO let the series down
At first I thought it wasn't important at all, but then I played The Witcher 3.
It wouldn't be the best game of all time if it didn't have such compelling characters and excellent voice acting.
she can't VA for shit;
everyone should be good as Troy Baker
/thread
If there was a magic button to force every game under the sun to have HotD tier voice-acting only, I would slam my fist down on it without a second thought.
Are you as good as a Troy Baker, user?
This lemonfaced horse was fucking terrible. Can't act, can't sing.
...
I'll just leave this here
Not important enough for residuals. Fuck off vag shills
not necessary, but a nice bonus if it is done well
i say this as someone who wants to get into it
I completely agree. What ever happened to Japanese devs just pulling in absolutely anyone who responded to an English speakers needed ad in a newspaper? Jap devs need to get the fuck back on it.
It's not essential, but it's a nice bonus. The problem with voiced characters vs. text is that it limits options. It's more expensive to have a VA voice 3 lines than it is to have a member of the writing team write 12 lines. The most classic example I can think of is Morrowind vs. Oblivion/Skyrim.
Of course, why anyone would pretend that voice acting is a viable career by itself (unless you're a big4u saiyou in Japan) is baffling.
I cringed through the entirety of the Xenoblade 2 trailer
