It's not incompetent or low quality but I cannot stand the way PS1 "Anime" CGI looked like.
Oddly enough I didn't have these issues with FF7 and 8, only 9 which is my favourite PS1 FF.
The closest thing we have today is shit like PSO2 or Xenoblade X, it's incredibly ugly.

i was just watching a bunch of the older games' endings in T7's gallery yesterday.
i just now realized the live action "children" in King's ending in Tekken 1 were all actually just nip adults and King is a fucking giant among them with fists the size of their heads.
Law's ending with his oddly dark lips always baffled me when he looked normal in Yoshimitsu's ending

considering how tiny they are compared to him and the actual live action children in his Tekken 2 ending, i suppose it's easy to misremember the people in Tekken 1 as kids too.
speaking of shit i didn't notice until yesterday, i watched Wang's ending out of curiosity since i didn't remember how it went and didn't realize they referenced Jinpachi as far back as 2. probably because it's subtitled in 7 and not 2. in fact, i think it's the only reference to Jinpachi period until T5.
don't forget King and Armor King literally communicate with each other with subtitled growls in later games
