As far as 3d platforming goes Mario is unparalleled, as far as 2d platforming goes, Donkey Kong is the only series that tops Mario, but it's all god apart from Super Mario Bros. 2 US, that's the one you can skip, play Lost Levels instead, or Doki Doki Panic instead.

I decided to really get into it. I will probably start with mario bros 3 because it peaked my interest the most and people say it's more challenging than mario world.

The co-op mode looks like it has a lot of possibilities to be abused during gameplay, I'll never be able to play it probably but looks pretty fun.

You know how every now and then there's that one family film, usually from Disney, Pixar or whatever that parents take their kids to see but the parents end up liking it too? Mario is kind of like the video game version of that.

And also Mario has been around long enough that a lot of adults played the games as children, so that's another factor.

It's either Mario Odyssey, Zelda, Mass Effect Andromeda or Battlefield 2.

It's seen as a follow-up on sunshine and 64, this jas go en people high expectations. Not only that but the trailer is pretty phenomenal, it was the best part of Nintendo's e3 presentation.

Indeed. Only the most recent ones were somewhat average. Super Mario 64 quality is legend. Only a handful of games can measure up to it. Give me a more deep, more free SM64 and I will buy any system to play it.

Not OP but I have never owned a Nintendo console since the SNES days and during those days the only games I played were third party games that were mostly arcade games made to consoles. Even during NES days I would rather play 3rd party games than Mario.

No, Sunshine is the worst, but worst Mario 3d platformer is still excellent, and you forgot 3d land.

Just start with Mario 3 or Super Mario World; if 3 throws you off with the world map activities and secret flutes 'n whatnots, start with World.

Then move on to Super Mario 64(DS remake is fine, and has quite a few new things to make up for d-pad controls), and give Sunshine a try. Sunshine's my favorite in the series but I'm not sure what kind of first impression it would leave on an older person. New Super Mario Bros. DS is nice but the rest of the "New" installments spawned a bit of a dark age.

Galaxy 1 and 2 are must-plays. Mario is also host to some of the best spin-offs in gaming:

Paper Mario, Paper Mario TTYD
Superstar Saga (they're remaking this so i'd wait for that)
Super Mario RPG

Those won't prep you for Odyssey, but they're great games

It really doesn't. How well Mario controlled in 64 was a big part of what made it so good.

It was the only game that made me interested in E3. Everything else on this event is just super realistic shooter or third person adventure games I don't care about. The new mario might be a reason to get the switch

I agree. Great game design, just a little bland compared to Galaxy. Odyssey looks so promising on that front.

Shitposting aside, Mario Games tend to be excellent games all around.

The primary draw of each new Mario game is the level design. They seem to never run out of ideas for unique mechanics and hazards and just keep coming up with more and more cool shit to do in the games. It's an absolute joy to see what they've come up with from game to game.

The controls are always super tight and (although this varies) Mario's moveset provides you with a good range of tools but never too much to make the levels pointless.

The difficulty curve is always well done. First couple worlds are stupid easy as you get used to the controls, then things gradually escalate until the last few worlds are a genuine challenge. Not the hardest platformer you've played, but certainly a meaty challenge for most players.

Mario games, like all good Nintendo IPs, are 100% focused on the gameplay and really nice fun presentation.

So yeah, Mario is pretty great, just a fun ass video game for people who enjoy fun ass video games man.

Anyone else think that the water dynamics look cool, I keep being surprised at the Switch's graphical capabilites, it's definitely more powerful than what it's specs say it is, in terms of hardware it looks like the GC 2.0, the GC on paper wasn't capable of what it did graphically, but that didn't stop games like Star Wars Rogue Squadron Rogue Leader looking as good as it did.

It just has the same options for control and a few more, I doubt it will have the whacked out physics Super Mario 64 had which allowed the crazy as fuck speedrunning.

Spiderman has 2 source of views for the trailers one is Marvel Enterteinment and the other is some channel called Math or whatever. Both combined have well over 12M views.

And you can 100% assure me that not a single person watched both trailers.

Switch definitively has some power and is using a very modern chipset. This is why games like Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2 run at 1080p60 without a hitch no matter what

The same can be said about the Mario trailer. The point being that overall views of the spiderman game (and Battlefront 2) are still higher.

I think Splatoon 2 has resolution scaling, it had it in the testfire release, but nonetheless the Switch is clearly more powerful than people would like you to believe it is.
