It plays like Sim-City, but a bit more intense since you have to not only manage infrastructure and the economy, but how your decisions affect your popularity and the popularity of political movements. You're playing as a Dictator, so the main goals are

Is it different this time? I played Tropico 5 for like one hour because it was the same game as Tropico 4, which was already the same game as Tropico 3.

I worked as a translator years ago for a certain publisher and they usually just send me a copy. I need to open a few thread during a week on reddit and Sup Forums, send them the links/screens and thats all.

The old dev team is back on the game. The screen shots and the trailer already looks much better than 5. Hopfully it plays much more like 3&4.

Tropico 5 was a weird RTS game that failed at both the city building and the RTS. They then charged a shit ton of DLC for things that where in the base game of Tropico 1-4.

The strength of 5 was actually making use of your military in many combat events
The Dynasty feels tacked on.
Trade became more active but by that more annoying.
Still it's fun to play if you finished 3 or 4.

Yeah, they never really got the hang of making the gameplay challenging enough so you had to be a dick to succeed.
It was always easier, safer and more profitable to make a democratic wonderland, with social security, well-paid workers and big industry.
... and that can be enjoyable. It's just a shame that you almost have to go out of your way to be a dictator.

Some changes are needed.
Make the parties much harder to please. You shouldn't end up in a situation where everyone loves you.
Make industry harder - perhaps limit it to 1-2 factories for, say, every 200 people on the island. As soon as you start making rum and cigars you can lean back and watch the money roll in.
Make it easier to see where and how materials are being used, where it's being brought to and how much money you earn doing it. This shit should be an overlay setting on the main map. Either provide some easy to read statistics, so you can clearly see what happens for each farm/factory/whatever, or make it easy to see from what's happening on the map (like in the Caesar/Pharaoh/Zeus games).

Still, I enjoy the series. Perhaps this one will fix some shit, instead of being Tropico 3, Tropico 3,5 or Tropico 3,9, like the last three games.

I agree. Tropico 1 is the best when it comes to chalanage. It actually feels like you are play a dictator and being a super liberal does not always work. It's actually much easier to go full dictator in 1 than it is to go liberal.

I had a lot of fun with Tropico 3, but I've become tired of this series. They're releasing sequels too quickly, and shoving them full of DLC. Don't really feel like bothering with the franchise anymore.

It's pretty clear they're making them more for profit than because they have something new to add to the series.
They haven't really don't anything new since 3.

Fairly disappointing, it seems they're doing more of the same, and 6 will be another game full of worthless DLC
Multiple islands and an actual transportation system sounds great, but it isn't much.
I HATE the monuments crap, in Tropico you're supposed to feel like a dictator of a Caribbean island, but then you just plop down the Eiffel Tower and ruin the feel and look of your isle.
What I was hoping for was for a big improvements on building aesthetics, with models that fit better together, and many models for the most common ones such as houses. Looks like they didn't work towards that.

I agree on factions being shit.
There should be fringe elements in each, always plotting coup if they are not oppressed or 100% happy.
The closest thing were Nationalists in 5 that felt like made out of globalist fairytale.
any step toward not doing nothing angered them, meanwhile Globalists were always happy because doing ANYTHING to win made them happy.
Still, angry Nationalist at best killed some migrants (easily replaceable) or started a fire.

This sounds good, especially the part about transport. That was always a side-note, something that was never interesting or strategic.

Tropico is my guilty pleasure. I am always the guy in my group telling everyone that the next AAA shooter is going to be garbage and recommending every piece of indie pixel art hipster bs.

That being said, I love Tropico games and no one else does except for my buddies house bound wives.

I hope Tropico 6 ends up being more original instead of just being Tropico 3 again. And I hope factions are still a major factor. There was no reason not to legalize weed in Cities: Skylines, it just made everyone happy instantly. I want some factions bitching about every move I make while others praise it.

I think 4 is still better than 5, but when Ive played 4 to death I have to go to 5 for more tropico.

The game has a history of making everyone seem awful for satire. In 4 you could have your character be born ugly and gain a charm bonus with Middle Easterners.

What I really hope they did was reboot the series, and make a game about the colonial time. It was by far my favorite in t, but it was way too short, had few buildings, and lacked gameplay aspects for no reason

Probably, but that's only ~12 buildings (3-4 meat, cash crops, and food crops).

It's still a good amount for a city builder.

6 at least looks interesting, with the embargo and all that gone and a globalizing Cuba, now is the perfect time to make a new game and shake up the franchise.

I never played 5 but I ran into that often in 4. Some people simply can't afford housing so you need to strike a balance between better wages and/or more affordable housing. Any way you slice it, you're gonna have poor people.

In many ways it was casualized. For example you could no longer change certain features about your buildings. (Example: Giving a restaurant nicer napkins to increase service quality at the cost of a higher upkeep)

In 4 with modern times, there was like 5% of citizens with an actual Tropican name, rest was Chinese because it was always far more efficient to kick in more asians.
