sony is just plain lying. cross play requires an xbox live account even on switch, so there is a governing body looking after everyone and so far every crossplay game has had to option to disable the feature.
sony was cool during the ps1/2 days but we are seeing the return of fuckheaded sony from last gen. the same sony that released a $600 machine that was weaker than the 360 and didnt get any games besides tech demos like lair for years

they have PC crossplay with Rocket League and Final Fantasy. their excuse focuses on minecraft because they don't have any crossplay with that so they can make up a better excuse than we don't like nintendo and microsoft.
4thechildren argument falls apart even further after the rocket league devs said that getting microsoft was harder for crossplay because of their strict guideline compared to sony but allowed them getting nintendo more easily.
and lets not forget that the only reason the crossplay conversation even started was because sony was saying yes to PC crossplay and rubbing it in microsoft's face until they relented and the rocket league devs thought to do crossplay with consoles which as we know now is 100% possible.

Its amazing that this guy has to create the least convincing excuse instead of just saying the truth in a polite way like 'Our vision for PSN doesnt include cross-play with other platforms'.
