well that's gay. i would prefer a zombie horde mode. bunker down in a building and try to survive with your group until it's either you or them, something like day z but with the zombie horde of day's gone.

Yes. The dev team is also very transparent and has realistic goals to getting the game out of early access. Pretty much just want it to run well and have good server side functionality so it isn't plagued with shitty desyncs. It's not like most where they want to add 50 different features while the game is barely playable.

Its gimmick is that theres a safe zone on the map which gets progressively smaller as time goes on. It's kind of like the movie Battle Royalle, or for the contemporary audience Hunger Games, in that you're eventually forced into a confrontation. Basically there's less shitting around doing fuck all and more violence, and once everyone is dead shit gets reset so you don't have persistent resources.
