Venom's output in the early 80s was no different than the tons of other gritty speed metal/proto-thrash metal, the only difference was that Venom coined the term black metal and popularized the aesthetic, but their sound is far removed from that of Sodom, Bathory, Sepultura, Sarcofago or Poison.
The first thing that resembled black metal came out of Japan in 1983.
