Guy mods Super Mario Odyssey abilities into Mario 64
>tfw you will never know how to code
>Turns into birds
Honesty pretty cool
It's honestly not that hard when you start.
Here
You'll know how to code in a week.
Ok? I'm still buying odyssey I hope Nintendo copyright strikes this asshole
Isn't Odyssey running on a very, VERY modified 64 engine?
No why the hell would they take an old worn out dusty engine and try to polish it up into something modern? That makes no sense and would probably take longer than just starting from scratch
HERE WE GO
Odyssey is running on Unreal Engine 4.
IIRC They made a new engine which was used to demo Super Mario 128 which was later used as the basis for Sunshine, which they have since added onto for Galaxy 1 and 2 and what they are presumably using for Odyssey.
So, it's still pretty old, but not N64 old.
I stand corrected.
No you fucking retard Bethesda shouldn't even be using the engine they are in modern games engines die after a while and using old shirty ones is one of the biggest causes of poor performance
Lock him up.
IT'SA ME MARIO
...
No. While I'll admit they're pretty helpful, considering the kind of website this is, I don't think using the ramblings of random people who don't have the best interests of a single person on the planet at heart is entirely wise.
Some of what they say is helpful, but I'll stick to full-fledged books on the subject.
I covered that here
The ancient engine is a huge part of why Beth games release so buggy
>people who know how to code circlejerking and talking about what languages and programs they like or dislike
>see a couple people asking where to start with a language
>one sarcastic or off-topic reply
That's pretty useless for someone who wants to learn how to code. These fags aren't /ic/. Just link a tutorial or suggest a book.
You realize cod still has things from the quake engine, right?
>Non shitpost thread
Good on you OP. Thank you for not being a faggot.
You can't control the enemies = lame. Still it's neat that you can actually jump on the hat.
code monkeys are a dime a dozen in the game-design world. try to find a truly good and creative composer. all artists tell a different story. code monkeys are just autists.
And it's a huge problem they need to throw all that shot out every 10 or so years and start over
>code
That can mean so many things.
Assembler programmers are the craziest motherfuckers, though.
I don't believe Odyssey is.
I know Yoshi Switch is, but I don't think Odyssey is.
you can see it in the lighting on Mario. For the Yoshi game, they use blob shadows for Yoshi, but Mario's still got all of the full-detail overhead shadow decals that he's had since the Wii-era games.
I've downloaded the mod, and it can really use some work in some areas.
The throwing the hat stuff works fine for the most part, but the possession of enemies works terribly, with most enemies not really being able to do anything, and how some of them aren't even able to be controlled. I would love to see this guy put in some more effort into the controlling part, but it looks more like a proof of concept rather than an actual mod.
How'd he do it so fucking fast? How do you write 64 mods in the first place?
The enemy control part was done pretty quickly, the guy on has another video from early this week and it was only the hat throwing, he threw the controlling enemies stuff together in a day after it was revealed at E3.
He worked on it since the reveal trailer in the beginning of the year. He only started version 2 (with the possession mechanic) recently

Assembly
Holy shit that guy is fast
The Yoshi game is still early in development - the floating coins don't even cast shadows. given how the game aims for a highly realistic look of a cardboard diorama, it'd be weird to keep the blob shadows.
Kaze is a fucking god
...
If you think it's just going to be called yoshi you are wrong it's likely a working title and they expected us to be smart enough to understand that
Just because some developers are incompetent doesn't mean other developers can't take an old engine and improve upon it.
Take Breath of the Wild. It's literally a souped up Wind Waker engine. The Wind Waker engine was improved upon for Twilight Princess, improved upon again for Skyward Sword, and then got a major retrofit for Breath of the Wild, having the phsyics and chemistry engines added to it.
If a new engine was built from scratch for each and every single video game, development times would be even longer than what they are now. If you can re-use an asset, you can bet your ass it's going to be re-used.
Sonic Team talks about Sonic Forces using the Hedgehog Engine 2. I'd put money down that it's just a heavily improved original Hegehog Engine rather than being a complete recode from the ground up.
Man movement still looks so fucking good in Mario 64. They will never reach that level of movement again. Even Odyssey looks like floaty garbage.
Modern game devs seem afraid to have fun momentum nowadays, happened to the Smash games too.
