Has there ever been a better city management game than SimCity 4?

Has there ever been a better city management game than SimCity 4?

Sim City 3000

Not yet, no.

No. This game is a masterpiece and the epitome of isometric graphics. Unmatched since 2003.

Transport Tycoon is still better in terms of complexity and gameplay though.

Sadly, no. A true successor to SimCity 4 just hasn't materialized yet.

I can't imagine anything would. The human race is a fucking disaster.

SC 3000 Unlimited

Nope. Everything about it is perfect, especially the soundtrack. I have yet to play a single game with better music

What's wrong with cities skylines?

A different kind of game really.

>No lot sizes.
>Industry not the same.
>Farms bland.
>Only 2 types of density.
>Majority of simulation is traffic and not people.

Skylines let's you get away with effectively everybody wins happy socialism. 2000, 3000, and 4 forced you to abandon all your preconceived notions of caring for the poor, and embrace staunch fiscal conservative attitudes.

Notably, you had to do a lot of "unethical" things in 2, 3, and 4 if you wanted to make it like trickle down tax policies, mass demolition of slums and traditional industries, encouraging police oppression, etc. Essentially, if you weren't doing your best at exterminating the poor from your city, you weren't going to make it.

builders are dead and the economic/trade builders are not far behind. the genre is just way too video gamey for today's audience.

I was able to be pretty generous to the poor when playing 4. You gotta micromanage those services.

I would say Pharaoh but then I remember I played that game like an import/export simulator

Gonna post a couple of Sim City 4 region pics.

...

I heard City:Skylines is good, but my computer is kind of a toaster and I couldn't get it to run. At the very least you could say that SimCity 4 is the peak of the Simcity series and that the SimCity games are the definitive city management simulators.

What? I thought a core part of running a successful city was assuring that everyone has access to basic services. At least, that's how I always played it. Plus, the fact that the city is paying for education, healthcare, and every basic utility seems pretty socialistic to me.

(Actually, I was a bit of a socialist as a teenager, and I would sometimes build decent-sized cities where only poor people were allowed. I would turn turn them into a paradise for the proletariat).

It';s true. I don't even think CS has wealth classes, and if they do then it doesn't matter cause having one park makes a house turn in to a mansion.

CS is more for screen shot porn than actual game play.

No see. Just like in real life each economic class has certain needs. Just because they get a service doesn't mean it's a good service. High econ classes want GOOD services so having just a high school does jack shit.

I'm not smart enough to properly play SimCity 4. I never could make succesful beautiful cities with skyscrapers, like I wanted to.

as great as sc4 is its more of a shame we wont get a new sim earth. that was an awesome game.

Nope.

Yes a game called Capitalist Pig that was on mac back in the 90s you made a company and there was embezzlment and office shootings.

Capitalist oig was great.

you have rush hour right? if you're playing regular vanilla without the rush hour patch you will never get skyscrapers because they were bugged. otherwise you should aloso use NAM to make mass transit work like it should then you can deisgn a big city fairly easily it just takes tame and the right zoning, especially 4x4 zoning.

What about 3000 was better than 4? I believe it, I just haven't played either in so long I don't remember the differences.

I havent played them in forwver either, but i have both and remember liking 3k much better. Not sure why.

the anno games are pretty cool

I wish C:S had region play like SC4. Imagine what SimCity successor might be like now if Maxis wasn't ruined by EA.

Tetrisphere. But I agree with you user.

SC4 is great but SC3K is way easier to jump in and play.

Pharaoh

Pharaoh is GOAT.

Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom was the last game they made on that engine. It's also really great.

My goal in sc4 was usually to build the biggest most advanced cities, but some of the most fun times were of squeezing something good into horribly small and inhospitable land situations.
