Hey Sup Forums I really want to start playing ffxiv and I need a long game for the summer. I'm a huge fan of the series (except for XII and XV, which I hate).
However, none of my friends play this game and I wonder if it's still worth it since I won't have anyone to play with...
Also, this would be my first MMO.

None, MMO is dead genre. People don't play together in modern MMOs. All online games are either competive or single-player theme parks.
Your only option is to get static group to play with, it doesn't matter then whether the game is shit or not.
I'd say give a try but wait a little bit before the expansion hype to die down there's a free trial that goes up to I believe level 35.. Its an absolute clusterfuck right now.

Paladin is so FUCKING FUN when you get Requiescat.
Holy spirit lets you nuke from range when you can't be in melee range for some reason. You get 20 oath meter every time you use holy spirit when in shield stance so you can spam sheltron.
Sheltron gives mana back for more holy spirit spam.
Blocking magic lets you proc Sheltron/Shield swipe off of aoe attacks when off tanking.
Cover now absorbs ALL damage an ally takes meaning you can save people from death mechanics/aoe pools. Clemency cast time, mana cost and is now uninterruptable so you can pull HUUUGE and spam clemency to survive.
Everything about level 70 paladin is FUCKING

Just hit 61 on my bard, done pretty much all of the quests in the area. Is that fucking instance still broken?
Also BRD is weird now, and PLD is actually kind of entertaining. It actually feels like you can help your party more effectively now with this new cover, buffed clemency, and barriers and shit. Pretty cool.

I've levelled a scholar and summoner but haven't played for a while, all I remember is that people told me that people would want me to play with them if I played those classes cause they were useful.

I'm a new player to FFXIV and was wondering if tanking is harder than DPSing? I looked at this image somebody posted in another thread and apparently tanks are in high demand in Stormblood so I would like to play one.

tanking is pretty easy, for leveling you just spam an aoe and use your defensive cool downs at the most.
Adrya is a cute as fuck ~16 year old girl heavily involved in the RDM questline and the first thing they do is give her an extremely short skirt and black knee high boots.
The visuals are so disappointing. Specifically spell/skill effects. It's all the exact same swirly sparkly bubbly bullshit. I honestly prefer FFXI visuals and they were PS2-tier.
Raubahn and Pipin let people through for 5 minutes and now they're clogged up again. Got passed Raubahn but now I'm stuck on his son. This is what I get for watching cutscenes I guess.
Tanks just have more responsibilites most of the time. You're front and center, and if you're not paying attention, you can let people in your party die.
DPS is usually more relaxing most of the time because typically people don't notice your screw-ups. If you fail any DPS checks, then yeah, you might wipe your party. But it's easier and you don't need to pay as much attention.
If you feel like tanking, go ahead. Want to protect your party members with shields and healing? Paladin. Want to feel like an angry berzerker who likes to smash shit? Warrior. Edgy guy with a big sword and DARKNESS? Dark Knight.

Pretty easy in XIV, early on you can just spam your aoe and keep aggro easily. Just remember that you'll often be considered the leader of the group and if something goes wrong you'll be the one blamed first unless you quickly throw it on someone else.

No tanking is braindead, you stand and face the boss away and get healed constantly its easy as shit, DPS is harder, Healer is harder than tanking.

You can't say tanking isn't the most easy of all the roles, you can fuck up so many things and still survive.
Once you get further you'll have to be more involved with the mechanics though, knowing when to pop your defensive cooldowns for tank busters and when to switch with the other tank will fall on you as well as the normal mechanics everyone else is dealing with, definitely worth it to learn though, tanking can be fun.

Literally doesn't matter, you'll have to finish the main story before you get to heavensward to unlock machinist, bard is the closest feeling wise to it, otherwise go tank or healer to get through stuff faster to unlock it

You can level every class on a single character just start as arcanist and level normally, if you jump right now you can't actually progress anyway since servers are so fucked and will be for at least the next week or so, which is plenty of time to level

the population is too low at +50 between 70, it's fine you are low level but its a pain in the ass for leveling if you a higher
