>tfw my 3000+ hour save file got corrupted

Nope. that goes to 4U.

My first MH and probably my favorite but those hitboxes are fucked.
Hard to go back to this one after 4U exists.

*gets hit by attack which has a hitbox that doesn't fit the actual animation whatsoever*

No

3U is the best, closely followed by 4U

no SA.

I like 3U a lot
but it's the only one I've played

No, the hitboxes and progression are just absolute hell tier. also the giant monster fights, while sometimes fun, were awfully designed. Overall it's a solid game, but there is too many quality of life improvements that make those games vastly superior to FU

4U is the best, for introducing me to Dundorma, the comfiest city.

Arts are bad because _________

The core of monster hunter gameplay is about the weapons, and arts kind of muddle that. Not to mention that certain arts like Demon Riot for SA and Absolute Readiness are WAY too strong and the game wasn't balanced for that.

yes it is
I wonder if it will ever get toped

>4U
The endgame guildquest grind thing was shit, charm grinding is shit, wyvernstones are a meme, insect glaive is a meme, mounting was cool but should have been limited to particular monsters

Unnecessary meme shit tacked on to sell it to people who don't like monster hunter

Not bad, just different. I don't mind arts, I just usually prefer not to use them, or even forget they're an option.

Same here, i was so fucking asperg that i always copy my save to the pc, until one day that the cable fucked everything up and screw my save.

kys

I suppose they are a crutch for bads but you can opt not to use them. No accounting for randos you see online. Valid point

>things i don't are memes

I kind of liked the Wystone mechanic, honestly. It added an extra layer to the fight and made you feel fucking great when you manage to knock a monster out of frenzy

>shit maps
>the best

I soloed g-rank in FU but I don't wanna go back to those days. Fighting a Rathalos or Rathian was like fighting a jerky, 100% predictable robot. The only dangerous attacks were the ones with hitboxes that made no fucking sense. No online and nobody knew what MH was so good luck playing with other people.

Still, those hundreds of hours I spent in MHF2/U were my introduction to MH so whenever they bring back that Pokke theme in later games it all comes back.

Deafult monster HP is increased

Its not optional. You either use them or get slow as fuck times.

I don't think that "you can not use this" is a valid excuse for a mechanic which is added to the game. Guild style, which is by all means the most vanilla, has 2 hunter arts. If a mechanic is available to a player, they will use it, especially if it's not game breakingly strong (which arts aren't). I always assume that a mechanic that's in the game is intended for use, and base my judgment on that.

Nintendog bandwagon rider detected!
You guys will LOVE Monster Hunter World, there will be so many shitty meme mechanics for casuals and idiots that never liked MH to begin with.

Imagine the pure, refined gameplay of modern MH titles if Capcbros would accept 1million sales per title as acceptable, rather than chasing money from subhumans that will only take interest when the game adds gimmicks

No. Daily reminder that flexing is legitimately artificial difficulty because if the exact same difficulty can be achieved without an unrealistic rooting animation, and is within the dev's ultimate vision for the game, it is artificial difficulty because it's only purpose has then become making something artificially difficult.

Now maybe MHW can finally help the series reach the potential it deserved.

>meme meme meme meme

jesus christ listen to yourself you colossal faggot

I played MH1 the most, and have a shit ton of nostalgia for it.

However, I think all around, my favorite is Tri, even though I only put a measly 350 hours into it.

Nah. Best to me is 3U. FU is good but it's got a lot of bullshit. Bad hitboxes, obnoxiously aggressive mobs, tons of old monsters that suck dick like khezu, monsters retreat way too much. Ichinose is worst director.

This, the removal of underwater hunting really affected the game more than I was anticipating before I played, it really felt like a step back.

>no monsters with AoE attacks
Plesioth

The progression is still the best of the saga what the hell are you talking about?

For the sake of discussion, what is the harm in an op ability in a game that isn't pvp. Whether you are the one chopping a monster in half or your teammate, you both get rewards. Is the argument just against cookie cutter builds because I can definitely see that

I still pop in Freedom 1 and MonHun1 every once and a while.
I miss back when Great Sword was just a huge slab of iron you threw around like a madman instead of a charge and slam.

because Retaliative Evade is a bigger cancer than removing flexing. At least Seregios weapons weren't end all for every type, the Gen games throw the concept of needing to maintain sharpness out the window. Arts would be fine if it were not for Retaliative Evasion

>mfw ceadeus first fight
>mfw first jho
>mfw first Alatreon
>mfw dat underwater combat against lagiacrus

Man tri was nice, what a shame that it had a poor pool of monsters.

yeah, despite the lack of content, there was just something about it. It helps that it was the first time I ever got to play MH with other people. But it just had a great atmosphere to it that 3U lost a bit. For example caves aren't dark at all in 3U, so cool stuff like Barioth's eyes glowing in the dark, or the entire torch mechanic were lost. And water looks like shit.

The entire online structure was different than how the 3DS games do it, with a city to gather in and server events etc.

I kind of hope World can dial in what made Tri good to me. Or maybe even better. For example I really liked just fucking around doing free hunting in moga woods. From what I understand you can free hunt on every map and they are much, much larger.

I have no problem with a game breakingly strong skill, honestly, as long as it's labelled as such. The devs definitely intended for a certain level of difficulty to be had in the game, and if one thing makes the game ridiculously easy, it should either be clearly labeled as such, or should be relatively inaccessible and difficult to attain.

An example of the former is the golden tanuki suit in Mario 3D World, which is a thing that you can get if you die a bunch in one level, which expressly tells you that, yes, you're going to get handheld through this level, don't use this if you don't want to have the victory taken from you.

The latter's best example is Dark Souls 1, where you had to waste at least 1, and maybe 2 humanities in order to make the game a lot easier, at least early into the game and before you find some ridiculously broken weapon.

I have no problem with any of these, games should be enjoyed by people of all skill levels, but when you don't fulfill one of these conditions, you can mislead a player into thinking they're doing great when in reality they're abusing something which just wasn't balanced properly.

Closer to the point, if you're cooping with other players, you might inadvertedly reduce their desired challenge setting by using a skill that's too strong, or might make them feel inadequate just because they're using a skillset which they believe is balanced and fair.

posting the rest because why not

While it is my favourite MH game and probably the hardest one it also kinda has whole "artificial difficulty" thing going on.

>weapons not really balanced
>hitboxes literally fucked up to the point you can be on the other side of the map and get hit
>Poison Battle Axe breaks the game

But it is pure hunt.

Not with those hitboxes, no

I can't tell if you're trolling or if you're just the biggest faggot in history.

...

>valfalk

you mean the red eyes black dragon?

no, it's the worst of the "non-shit" MH games

Did you play MH before tri? I don't think you did because if you had played it, you would understand. Crapcom wanted people like you to play monster hunter so they kept adding more gimmicks, more special effects, more bullshit to catch your attention finally culminating in hunter arts. Who knows what the future holds? I would guess that as MHW is on bonex and ps4, we may see jet packs, radio comms, exoskeleton armor, AI hunters, vehicles

My first MH was FU. I played Tri on the Wii and got 3U on 3DS. Also got 4U and Generations. Put hundreds of hours into each one.
What you call gimmicks and memes, I call them changing the gameplay around. I bet you would be happy if they just released the original Monster Hunter over and over every year, not changing a thing, graphics and all.
Well that's not how you sell games and it's not how you evolve a series.
You sound so desperate to seem "elite" and "hardcore" by sticking to the older games. News flash, nobody gives a shit.

You forgot to add the god awful hitboxes

> nobody gives a shit
Why are you replying then? Are you a butthurt neo-mon hun fan upset that you got called out for being responsible for the casualisation of the game

>play toukiden kiwami on the vita to scratch the MH itch
>Hitboxes become progressively more fucked up the more you progress the game, some monsters have incredibly bullshitty attacks
I couldnt bring myself to finish G ranks with the mace.

I believe it's one of the best, but my favorite game is still TriU. 4U while great has what I believe to be one of the least enjoyable G Rank/end game with Generations not too far behind.

Yep. It's my fault. Ya got me bro.

Are these games good if you only play singleplayer?

If you like grinding yeah
Some of the very late game stuff is very difficult alone though

Absolute Readiness makes the game a complete joke.

>Replaying Freedom
>That cutscene when you get the Master Sword
I won't lie, I got misty eyed.
No other MH had something like that, outside of maybe FU with the bigass sword in the ice cave.
Toukiden's balance gets thrown out of the window at high ranks, especially for slow weapons like maces or gauntlets which don't have any good defensive options and are slow as shit, Naginata and other weapons with higher mobility are kings because you can simply nullify damage if you have good reflexes, especially the Naginata with its bullshit perfect guard.
SSD is much better designed overall, even if you run at Dante Must Die 1/99 difficulty, if you die it's always your fault, there's no bullshit hitbox or cheapshots, outside of maybe having the misfortune of running into Sert and Romulus at max rank in Alice's Dungeon, things can get nasty pretty quick in that case.

Yeah, it's fine, but you're missing out on a lot of the experience if you do. These games are coop games at their core, they're meant to be social and comfy.

Mh portable 3rd is the best mh,esp emulated on a vita with the second thumb stick, second best would be 4u

>wears the same armor the entire time

Palicos are your friends! They deserve your appreciation and care!

tri didn't have any gimmicks...

and before you say "muh underwater combat" it was just an extension of what already existed. all it needed some refinement and a better controller, and it would've been a staple.

You're correct. I finished white fatty, nothing to do now

Palicos are meant to farm the damn dash extracts and that's it

4u is the pinnacle so far.

>you will never go here
youtu.be/_DaqHaM5qVU?t=359
Feels bad man

Yeah, twin gods were pretty nasty but with a decent setup you could have a fair fight with pretty much anyone. The mace in toukiden is great fun but i found that its only really effective when you have really good gear and mitama to consistently stagger enemies.

Also the parry is an absolute joke

>The same armor
That's her underwear. I thought it was a comic series about playing the game armorless.

>4U dicksucking

Not while Apex monsters and guild quests are a thing, faggots. 4U endgame was fucking godawful.

So far Wii U 3U a best.

DON'T ABUSE YOUR PALICOS

...

>4U endgame was fucking godawful.
As opposed to what endgame in 3U? Fighting Abyssal Lagi hundreds of times?

At least apex and guild quests are optional content as opposed to swimming.

>Unnerfed Slime and by extension, Kelbi Bow
>Monsters taking 100years to windup their attacks
>Exhaustion taking priority over rage
>Basically a babby game for hammer babbies
Try again, 3Ubabbies.

Every monster hunter had a way to break the game and make it easier. Arts are completely optional, the core experience is all there.

You think Unite was perfect? Flashbombs trivialized 90% of the monsters and evade+2 was as broken as absolute evasion is now.

>Yeah, twin gods were pretty nasty but with a decent setup you could have a fair fight with pretty much anyone.
The problem with them is that if you do happen to run into both at around 30+ depth chances are that they'll start enraged, if you're locked into one of the smaller arenas you're pretty much fucked once they begin to spam their AoE circular spell, you need someone to have offerings that can break through the waves or instantly stop them with a black rite, I made a run with some random japs a few weeks ago and we got buttblasted at floor 40 something by that thing, granted two of use were pretty much rookies that got nearly exhausted by that time, but it's admittedly a pretty tough fight in certain circumstances.
Worst thing of all, Sert decides to be cheeky and stops time before Romulus pulls his AoE, anyone that isn't running a Sanctuary build gets pretty much one one shotted by that.

Damn, I really want a new SS.

oh, that makes sense, I was thinking it was a low detail kirin armor

guild quests were fine, I think they would have been better if their difficulty was selectable though

>4U

only the faggots of psp who dont buy 3ds because muuuh sony, shill about that.

I liked portable 3rd better than FU desu familia.

yes, 4U is a close second

well there was technically online but it was a pain in the ass to setup if you didn't have a ps3 and there wasn't many players

the removal of weapons really hurt it but it had some cool shit, so it's pretty memorable for me

>hitboxes
Only issue with the game, I loved it as it was my first MH and I was utter garbage at it, but I made it work and eventually solo'd g rank.
