I find it interesting to watch sometimes and some of the tricks/skips/glitches are very crazy and can be incredibly creative. That being said, a lot of runners and most of the community do give off an autistic vibe. I was watching an AGDQ run where the runner and his friends would not fucking stop talking over the guy reading donations and they were just blissfully unaware they were being total jackasses. It can be very cringeworthy sometimes.

I like watching tool-assisted runs and also regular speedruns, I don't care about the person doing the run and any drama related to them
however, one thing I hate about speedrunning is the abuse of glitches, the fundamental point is to watch something entertaining, not have the lowest time possible, skipping parts of a game is not enjoyable to watch

You just kinda got exposed to it one way or another. First came across a Morrowind speedrun. Then some guy I was talking to linked me to some japanese person doing an sm64 race on some streaming site nobody will ever hear of again.
One of the people they were racing was siglemic(or whatever his name is), I caught their stream on twitch next. Then I discovered Cosmo and Werster with wind waker and pokemon having thousands of viewers on twitch(back when it was more noteworthy perhaps) then Adamak running GTA through Werster, shit like that. And from such a point you learn about more lads, often through those meme events. Not that they're worth shit any more.
I never liked adam or cosmo but I really liked the games they ran. Same with SM64, I don't know who the fuck runs it now, despite it being so popular. I like Werster but his runs bore me most of the time.
I don't really watch speedruns any more unless I'm bored, I tab on to twitch and ZFG or Werster or somebody is streaming right then and there.

Depends entirely on the charity you choose. But I'll ignore that can of worms for now.
GDQ's culture isn't the problem, though it is annoying; it's the reason for it.
Some might call this semantics but the event has taken a hard turn away from being a speedrunning event to raise money for charity, to a charity event featuring speedrunning.
Its regulations and general asshole nature of the people in charge have alienated all of the big draws to the event. Sure you might make a little extra money with sponsorship now that you've cleaned it up a bit, but they're probably losing money without having the heavy-hitters they invited in the past.
