Comfy

Soundtrack, atmosphere, quests.

The Imperial Guards remain undefeated in high work ethic and pride in what they do.

Even in Oblivion / Hell itself you cannot escape the law.

but it's not good

Fun quests.
Ambient music.
Shivering Isles.
Main quest sucked IMO but the Dragon Armor is a god tier reward.

Dialogue.

The quests
>mfw the dark brotherhood murder mansion

More entertaining quests/enviroment/gameplay than Skyrim. Oblivion gate shit was fun.

Just the soundtrack makes it a 7/10 game by itself

quests, ambient

Also it's the most depressing feeling ever when you have finished... everything.

Nothing just your blind nostalgia makes it seem good.

Oh and playing Skyrim right after Oblivion makes you realize that how lazy the quests are in Skyrim compared to Oblivion.

>Telling the old lady that you're an assassin when she asks about you

Mods duh

That moment when you got out of the sewers and realized just how big the world was, something not even Morrowind would show you at a glance. It pretty much blew my mind as a teen.
It got diminished in Fallout and Skyrim because we got used to it. Open world games became the norm, and they all have that pretty spectacle. Oblivion, mostly, had enough content to back it up.

t. console plebeian

I was playing far larger PC games in the 90s.

>what do i do now
turn on anti-aliasing for starters you broke ass nigger

It was fun.

>play Oblivion for first time
>exit sewers
>"wow this looks like shit"
>exit game
>install thousands of mods

>new neo-Sup Forums unironically likes oblivion
I wish I didn't know what went wrong

>muh procedural degerenated map
>muh minecraft meets skyrim

>muh grafix

the dragon armor wasnt even that good stats wwie but it looked really cool and the fact you had to wait 2 weeks for it after the final segment of the main quest gave it even more weight as a reward.

>implying either of those were in the games I'm taking about
FUCKing pleb.

you're not talking about daggerfall? then GTFO OF HERE you a bitch ass crysis gamer motherfuck

>muh Ultima VII
any recommendations?

Alright you shills finally got me. I downloaded the game.
What mods do you guys recommend if any? And can they work on Steam?

Heres a pic of a comfy setup as thanks :)

>Buys game
>starts playing
>grinds sneak to max
>hears about leveling system
>gets killed by bear

*sigh* i miss Skyrim...

that fucking soundtrack.

There's one website made by the /vg/ community but I don't remember the address. Check the elder scrolls general on /vg/.

How do you live? Do you work? Do you live in a van? How much money you spend a day? Is it cold? What about electricity? How do you shower etc?

sure is summer in here

fuck off newfag

After 5 years of holding off, I'm finally getting around to playing skyrim.

It's fun, but you're right -- the quests a ridiculously lacking compared to Oblivion. Particularly the Dark Brotherhood line. How they can regress from a full-blown mansion murder mystery where you can place the blame and evidence on others -- and go to a quest line with lots of potential that ends on a bunch of boring three-option dialogues about making soup that make no difference is beyond me.

MODS

FCOM SUPER PACK!

>How to mess up your game with shitty mods

How so? Iv'e "completed" Oblivion before so mods should just add more fun to the game
Not my setup but it is very possible and cheap. r/vandwellers is where i got trhat pic from

you forgot to add what you did after that
>record video for youtube
>show off grafix enhancement mods on max settings while showing stable framerate
>take screenshots
>uninstall and move on to the next "game" to "enjoy"
such is the life of a peesee gaymer

idk maybe the absolutely retarded leveling/skill system or the shallow combat

no it was all the copypasted caves

Casuals buy casual things, thats why people still keep buying it over and over again

>How to fix up your game with great mods that get rid of the NPC leveling and bullshit artificial difficulty

ftfy

literally unplayable after level 15

/thread

>idk maybe the absolutely retarded leveling/skill system

You mean the one that is actually interesting and challenging to perfect?

I'll bet you never even got 100 in all attributes via efficient leveling, pleb

...

>youtube.com/watch?v=Vp4-9G47uF0

What mods, friend

that's skyrim

"Skyblivion"?

it's actually not

>pick warrior class
>become worse warrior than if had picked anything except warrior skills
>level up
>bandits now have daedric armor
>interesting

I sometimes replay Oblivion just to experience that quest again. I love how open ended it is once you're inside the mansion and how it fits so many playstyles. Don't want to trick everyone? You're a big strong orc that slaughters? Then just do it. Lock the doors and go fucking ham. You can just wait for everyone to sleep and off them. You can poison people. You can turn people against each other. There's so many cool fucking ways to do it.

Explain why I should spend 4 eons of my life on this video

You're fucking sitting here anyway. You're going to be sitting here 4 eons from now.

why is the leveling system in tes so bad?

really good quests
nice music
awesome fantasy forests

yeah but I spent 12 hours modding morrowind and I kinda wanna read some of the books I found.

not him, but this even better

nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47666

godrays, enbcolormod, adaptive hdr, pom, volumetric ao, shademe enhanced. the lod textures are on the nexus

>game is actually garbage
>can't think of any ways to defend it's quality
>"B-buts its comfy though"

The fun buzzword guy was right all along

>both look horrendous
>worse than vanilla

The fuck are you two doing?

gramps pls

>become worse warrior than if had picked anything except warrior skills

excuse me?

It's only truly bad in Oblivion. In the other games it's mediocre at worst. Oblivion's leveling system is a fucking nightmare and I say this as someone who played way more than a healthy amount of Oblivion and did 5/5/1 efficient leveling for my 100% completion run. It's got to be the worst designed leveling system in the history of RPGs.

The worst part about the whole thing is that even if you level the most efficiently you can there are enemies in the game that still scale way too hard. Goblins, Wraiths, and Ogres being the worst offenders. Goblin Warlords at the lowest max level still take around 22 hits to kill with the highest level Goldbrand overrepaired to 125% and full on charge. Even worse is that's a little under half of the Goldbrand's total charges. You can at most kill two goblin warlords in between recharging your weapon and repairing it. AND THAT'S EVEN COUNTING THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE ALL ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS AT 100. It's so fucking miserable.

If you don't level at all and just get all your skills to 100 the game feels more like an RPG. The leveling system is only a detriment to the game as a whole.

if you pick the class you want to play as then your maximum levelling potential using those skills is reduced

eventually someone that picked the class defined by different skills would be better at the role the class you picked was meant to be designed for

its a retarded system with no possible defense, and dont even dare bringing up the stupid gymnastics required to "optimize" levelling up

>using overhauls instead of hand-picking the mods yourself
>especially when they are just compilations of existing mods that haven't been made compatible with each other
kill urself my man

nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47591/?

Install these, and anything else you like the look of. Anything that is incompatible is not worth it

>spend a month reacquainting myself with oblivion modding
>read endless guides and mod recs
>download everything again, redo installations a million times everytime make a mistake
>play for a week then get bored by some tiny bug/imbalance/glitch/incompatibility
>repeat every 3 years

>If you don't level at all and just get all your skills to 100 the game feels more like an RPG. The leveling system is only a detriment to the game as a whole.

I did this and didn't even know some enemies were in the game because they're level dependent.

You basically have to completely remove everything that makes Oblivion Oblivion with mods to make it playable.

the point of the modlist is that all the mods have been handpicked to be compatible with each other dumbfuck

makes it easy for people who don't want to spend a month looking through hundreds of mods

Magic is the only good long-term approach, because you can get exponential damage scaling by repeatedly applying weakness effects. Meanwhile, "endgame" mob health scales harshly, but linearly.

Lack of competition.

>the point of the modlist is that all the mods have been handpicked to be compatible with each other dumbfuck
No, it's just for convenience. There are conflicts in both those packs.

Casual retard.

Forgot to add that I spent the last 50% of my playthrough abusing mana potions and several custom spells. My favorite spell was 100 Speed, 100 Athletics, and 60 seconds of Invisibility. It took so much longer to kill things on my way to objectives that it was better to just run by it while I was invisible. When a quest required I kill something I'd just paralyze it for 45 seconds with a spell, set my mana potions to one key and my weakness to magic weakness to lightning spell on another then I'd just spam my max potency lightning touch spell as fast as I could.

It was horrible. It's a terrible game as far as leveling and scaling is concerned. The worst part is that a lot of quests are fun and a lot of the guilds are interesting. I love the world building in Oblivion, but the actual game part of it is a disaster.

>what are mods

what conflicts would those be? list them.

i'm using the one i linked to and have had 0 problems. someone who doesnt know what theyre doing isn't going to be able to put something better together on their own anyways

>tfw you will never make an oblivion clone

I understand this and you do have a point and I did forget to mention in earlier posts, but it was a 100% completion vanilla play through. I wanted to experience the game as it was intended by developers on a clean slate with nothing that could possibly change the experience. I'm talking about Oblivion at it's core.

Why would you want to play a shit game?

A mix of masochism, curiosity, and autism.

the only reason you would use a compilation/overhaul/modlist is because you are too incompetent to install the mods on your own, which is pretty pathetic when it's so simple

if you use a mod manager you are doing it wrong

>talking shit about mod lists
>doesn't use immersive interiors
I don't disagree with you but fuck off nonetheless.

Forgot to add. I've done this with Morrowind, Skyrim, New Vegas, Fallout 3, and Fallout 4 as well. I'm a truly miserable man.

One of the few successful mixtures of action and RPG, that didn't compromise too much in either direction.

Also alchemy

...

I hope you get better soon user.

>Morrowind is released
>Daggerfall is seen as a great game and Morrowind is seen as dumbed down shit (yep, TES fans legit hated MW when it first came out)
>Oblivion is released
>Morrowind is now a great game, and Oblivion is considered trash in comparison
>Skyrim is released
>within a few years Oblivion becomes comfy and fun through nostalgia goggles and Skyrim is seen as the death of the franchise

You lot are so predictable. You hated Oblivion on this board up until recently. Here is how it will go in the future, by the way:

>TES VI is released
>Skyrim is retrospectively considered a masterpiece and TES VI is considered dogshit

Okay, so what you do is: Roll breton for the 50% magic resist and 50 magicka. Trigger the main quest, and run gates to get elemental shield sigil stones to get armor cap. Get access to the Arcane University and fuck around until level 22. Then advance the main quest up through the point where you escort Baurus through the sewers. The Mythic Dawn agent/son of the main villain, Raven Camoran, has a guaranteed drop ring with 50% magic resist. At this point you're immune to magic and 85% resistant to the rest. For bonus points, get the Escutcheon of Chorrol for 35% (?) reflect damage to get into the neighborhood of 90% weapon damage reduction. If you have Mehrunes Razor, run it for the Bladeturn Hood, which has more reflect damage. Fill other slots with increased magicka sigil stones.
Meanwhile, make a spell that has, in this order, Fire Damage, Frost Damage, Shock Damage, Weakness to Fire 100%, Weakness to Frost 100%, Weakness to Shock 100%, Weakness to Magic 100%, with damage magnitudes and weakness durations based on what you can handle, cost-wise.
If you do all of this, you'll stay ahead of the curve, and goblin warlords and liches are no trouble. Or if you just want to beat the game easy mode, get 100% chameleon from sigil stones, which is like what you suggested with invisibility except that it completely ruins the game.

At least oblivion has the excuse of still being an RPG, what does skyrim have?

Skyrim is an open ended adventure action game with lite rpg elements. It's fine, but it's not what Elder Scrolls diehards wanted.

lmao all this to have a normal rpg experience

>You hated Oblivion on this board up until recently.
Nice shitpost.

Fighting fucking demons from hell trying to invade yer shit beats fighting shouty vikings and stick-up-the-ass imperials any day of the week.

>weynon priory
>having outside geometry
you're just as retarded as the modlist guy
do me a favor and take a picture of that same spot in your game

I've loved every Beth game on release, the only game I became disenchanted with was Fallout 4.

You could view it as a competition against Todd Howard.

i did a playthrough like that where i didn't waste any stats when leveling up and ended up with a max level of either 49 or 51
it always bothered me
