How do you go from this
How do you go from this
to this
Modern anime taste. What can you say?
Its undeniable that Shulks belt count was too low for a jrpg
MOM SAID IT WAS MY TURN TO BE PROTAGONIST
Moe is in right now. Why spend more money on talented artists when you can spend less on a simpler artist and create a larger profit? Look at the titty sword girl, people already love her and we know jackshit about her.
I hate it but about reality.
The graphics there look way better senpai.
>wearing a long sleeve jumper with shorts
>wearing shorts under your shorts
Moe was in when Xenoblade released.
Xenoblade 1 sword as aesthetic as fuck.
That shit in 2 looks like this
How the fuck does gravity even work on the Bionis
Yes but now look, exposure through smash and a newer moe look has made it reach a wider audience.
Generally people have fucking awful taste. I agree with you, the style for the first xenoblade was much better, butbI know that sadly the moe look is more popular.
Computer simulation.
why every Xenoblade thread is shitposting general
name one anime with designs that shitty
Looks pretty decent, I don't know what you're talking about.
Not as big as it is now. Its too much to ignore, so they went with that style.
Not him but you're wrong. And that's okay. Stop deflecting.
The characters look awful in both. And X too for the record.
Did the games before were selling? Because I can't imagine any other reason why they went full on generic JRPG.
The character models are horrible and environments are worse than both previous games.
Xenoblade is one of my all time favourite JRPG's, but the MC's assless pants in this sequel really tickle my 'tism. I can only hope we get changeable armour.
His lower leggings and boots are practically made out of belts. I don't know how much higher he can go.
That one mecha anime the lead character designer for Xenoblade 2 worked on
Damn, you're right. Why can't they bring back the character models from X?
I haven't been paying too much attention to this game, but I saw artwork of the main character and his outfit upsets me with how stupid-looking it is.
how do you go from such an aesthetically designed sword to that piece of shit dragondick looking thing in 2?
You might hate the art style, but the character models are objectively better than any of the ones from 1 or X.
The thing is Shulk's design is actually kind of shitty but because it isn't as shit as say, FFX characters, its more acceptable. By being decent Shulk's design as a modern jrpg hero is worthy of praise.
Why couldn't they have just made those poofy drapes into actual pants?
Only played the first one here. Why is this one called 2? Is X completely unrelated?
No thanks
Carrying over more elements from 1 than X, like the setting and a heavier focus on plot.
>we wanted to do a more narrative focused game after X
>so instead of making a sequel to X with a stronger narrative focus and an actual main character we are making a sequel to the game that wrapped up perfectly with no lose ends
I dont care if XC2 is gods gift to RPG's I will always be mad
>Moe is in right now.
Moe has been 'in' since the 1960s. They just didn't coin a term for it until the late 90s. And if anything, you're seeing a resurgence of dark fantasy and realism in anime right now.
Cause it's aerodynamic?
Different character designers. It happens to series all the time. See Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy IX, Suikoden III, Tales, Persona, etc.
Should I play Chronicles on my Wii or pirate a game I already own on my N3DS?
>you're seeing a resurgence of dark fantasy and realism in anime right now.
the fuck am i reading
>Moe is in right now.
That's absolutely wrong. Ask Sup Forums about the latest season line-up. It's fujoshot and all slim remnants of moe is getting mixed with kemonbara everywhere.
10 years have passed since Xenoblade Chronicles started development and now. Lots of personnel changes happened at Monolith Soft, including which character designer was chosen for the new game.
Xenoblade 1 had a lot of the Chrono Cross and Xenosaga crew (Yasuyuki Honne, Norihiro Takami, etc). Their names don't show up on anything past Xenoblade X, so they must have either left the company or were moved onto helping with Breath of the Wild?
Xenoblade 2 seems to have a mostly new crew of younger devs and artists. The main character designer (responsible for the style) is Masatsugu Saito, but he's really versatile and capable of more "conventional" looking anime art (like pic related, which he did the concept art and character designs for)
Of course we know that moe has been around for a long time; but its way more popular than it has been. So thats why this game is in that style. Its not a dispute of when it was originated, but rather if its in trend (which it is)
posted the wrong image, meant to post this.
I miss potatoes
Okay sure but you know what I meant. Compared to say, Tezuka and Tatsunoko stuff, moe wasn't as huge in the market. I'm not one of those idiots who thinks any anime from before 2000 is some amazing beautifully animated masterpiece but you can't deny that generally there were more distinct artstyles before moe became extremely popular in the mid to late 2000's.
The plot ties into Xenoblade Chronicles and Tales of Symphonia. That's the Yggdrasil Tree in the background and the protagonist is Lloyd Irving's son
Hell, you can even look an Xenosaga 1, 2, and 3 to see an example of drastically different art styles.
Lame, post the superior version, can someone crop rex and his sword out of this pic?
She is cute
CUTE
Character designer changes be damned, Takahashi has always been a mahou girl loving moeshitter.
The only thing stopping him in the past was technology and budget limitations from coming off as the full on moeblob baron he always was.
I remember hearing the artist of XB2 is most famous as a hentai artist, this true? I know every artist draws porn but I kind of question putting a primarily porn artist as your lead artist in something meant to appeal to a general public.
No.
This isn't a rare thing in Japan. A lot of artists there get their start in art/manga/etc drawing hentai as it's easy-ish money compared to trying to break into the industry elsewhere. If/Once they draw attention/fans then they can start to branch out.
Maybe this time Melia gets da dick. That might make it worth it.
...
What kind of worthless creature shits on the Elementals?
This happens all the time in japan you dumbass
>Of course we know that moe has been around for a long time; but its way more popular than it has been.
I would argue moe was at its peak between 1998 and 2008.
>Compared to say, Tezuka and Tatsunoko stuff, moe wasn't as huge in the market.
What makes you say that? The shows with cute characters were the most popular in the 1960s and 70s. And even in the 80s and 90s, stuff like Urusei Yatsura, Ranma, Sailor Moon, Ah! Megami sama and etc were topping the charts. All of which feature a character or multiple characters you could classify as 'moe'.
K-On didn't invent moe. It just exacerbated it. And even then, you can claim K-On came from previous KyoAni works. Which in turn came from stuff like Love Hina and Mahoromatic. Which in turn came from Azumanga Daioh CardCaptor Sakura...etc.
It's funny how moe has been 'killing anime' for two decades now and anime still isn't dead. In fact, its making more profit now than it did back in the 80s and 90s.
Fair enough. I guess I'm thinking more as a Westerner, in Japan that may not be as looked down upon.
Cute anime have always been the predominant shows. You were only aware of shows and OVA (mostly ova) that was imported for western focus group audience doing the early days and before of the internet
Will the game have alternate costumes? Or are you stuck looking like a steampunk prostitute?
Have any ever watched this? It's designed by the same artist who worked on Xenogears, Saga 1 and XCX.
I don't know about XB2 but I know XCX's outfit design was done by a hentai artist.
Artistic Freedom.
What egine are they using? I know its not unreal.
No they don't. You are just saying that because you don't like how the mc looks
Wouldn't make sense not to. Every Xeno game since Xenosaga has allowed you to put characters in different outfits.
Xenoblade series has always changed your appearance depending on your equipment so I doubt it
Shulk looks like a fucking nerd, in-game he is a fucking nerd and because he pulls of being such a fucking nerd so well it ends up kind of endearing.
Rex looking like such a shiteating "that kid" isn't having the same effect on me.
Yes, its true.
Even moe itself is worse now
Here is the the art in question. I guess all this shit was forgotten about because of the whole censorship deal.
There's multiple weapon that MC can use ya know.
He isn't limited to that one girl only.
That's more self-awareness than most around here.
Yes. 8 episodes or pure boredom dialogue leading up to an okay ending.
Fun fact, the artist for Chrono Cross also worked on Escaflowne. And he also did the designs for Salotorobo. But if you looked at each of those works, none of them look similar. He changes his style each time.
an in house engine made for the game. It has no name pubically
Isn't it the same one as xcx?
Should be.
>a generalized term for cute that no one understands the meaning of is worse now than it used to be
>moe is cute
fuckin pleb
Yes it was. How fucking underage are you people?
Xenoblade is a 2010 game for Christ's sake, go look at seasonal anime charts from 2010 and notice how most of it is "moeshit."
Yes. Devs said it is the same engine as xcx
Go ahead and provide an alternate definition for the term.
The same way we went from this...
...to this.
This is better design than Sailor Moon Crystal. Would watch.
Even if it's the original character designer, there are no guarantees
>Nomura originally wanted Squall to be an effeminate version of Cloud
>Kitase slapped him upside the head and said no, that he needed to be manly to make the love story work
>Nomura did as he was told
>years later, he redesigned Squall as a poof in all the spin off games
So which one is Nomura's?
How do you go from this...
...to THIS?
To be fair, Nomura did go through a pretty drastic transition
Fanart. Unpaid artists who draw what people want, not what is safe for general audiences.
The white haired edgelord
more like "3 fucking games and i still have to wait and hope my ai companion uses the right fucking move"
Definitely the guy wearing the mask.
Also, you posted the same character twice. The guy in front of the flames is the same guy at the top middle.
You will all be ashamed of your words and deeds when you find out that his outfit makes perfect sense for cloud-diving-scavenging.
Obviously the edgiest looking character. Look at Nomura's design for batman. This is what his style has devolved into over the years.
I beat off to her way too much. Like an unhealthy amount at one point.
Never played a xenoblade, does it have any sort of gear system? Or towns where you can buy stuff, I'm thinking ff9 style towns. ?
Don't do that lin's pure.
Yep. Basically, imagine the game as linear, but the landscapes you traverse are vast and encourage exploration. You get a massive amount of EXP for simply discovering a secret spot on the map that has a nice view, for example.
Towns pop up all along the way.
