I spent about $800 (obviously not including monitor/keyboard/etc.) to build my rig about 4 years ago and I can play basically any game with decent graphics settings without dropping below 60fps.

However considering my current wages I could easily drop $3000 on a setup and feel it was money well spent. $1000 is nothing, bruh

I think my current computer with ALL the parts included costs over 2000 bux. I've spent it over several years though so it's not as bad as it sounds.
Then again I got things like a 144Hz monitor, mechanical keyboard, separate SFX card, multiple case fans, expensive cpu fan and decent headphones I wouldn't have bought without the computer and the SFX card, that all drive the price up. I also think I need to buy a new 3Tb+ HDD.

The real shit part is I'm starting to wish I just had a laptop and a couple of consoles instead.
