Pokewalker was GOAT.
...
They're 16-18 years old and grew up with these empty remakes instead of the original
It was a mixture of the old and new. Gold/Silver were the bomb back then because for many people they were the perfect sequels to their favourite games, and they came before the timespan were Pokemon stories became over the top.
The remakes themselves were also good with great UI implementation of the DS.
just a better version of the best game
No rule that forbids Pokemon outside of /vp/, newfag.
Lead Pokemon follows you around.
>that level curve and gym leaders having nothing but kanto pokemon
I dunno, people are retarded i guess
>Part of the best gen of Pokemon together with Platinum
>Tons of Pokemon and secrets to find, no other Pokemon game has come close to how fun it was to find some of the legendaries from other regions
>Events like the Celebi one and Giovanni, Spiky eared Pichu, Arceus egg and the Sinjoh ruins, and so on
>Last games to have the Battle Frontier
>Kanto wasn't as bare anymore and it was a fun and long post game
Post-game
That's basically it. Gold/Silver/Crystal were already widely considered some of the best in the franchise, then HG/SS came along, took everything they had, and added some should-be-staple post-game features like a Frontier, decent Gym leader rematches, legendaries in tasteful locations (instead of that shit ORAS did) and so on.
Personally I don't really care that much about post-game as long as the game itself is good, but hardcore pokefaggots go on about it every day of the week so I can only assume that's why this game is held in such high regard
I was always fond of amazing GSC/HGSS ost.

Johto has great aesthetic I appreciate. Many good locations are condensed in a way people are wrapped in a blanket. Bonus points for the fact that most of the towns are close to each other (Ecruteak has FOUR neighbourhood towns).
Interface and menus are pleasant to look at. I love the green colour.
Pokemon following you is a gimmick I adore. I was pleasantly surprised with PokeRide in the newest games.
Pokewalker actually made me walk more outside.
And lastly - nostalgia and what that user said
One of the last games, if not the last, that actually tried to make a full gameplay experience.
Except for the game corner.
The original games were just as empty. The remakes only intensified how flawed Gen II was.
I always thought the original OST was way better, and disliked the HGSS remake.
This sounds way better in remakes youtu.be
>Azalea Town
probably my favorite song in the original game, and my least favorite in hgss
Yeah, I love both but HG/SS's soundfont is really great. It's much better than what they did to RSE's soundtrack
they don't. Platinum is the best.
The Player VS Red
Kanto and Johto regions
Gen 1 - 4 Pokemon
Pokewalker
The same reason people consider all the other Pokemon games the best: they like them the most.
You misspelled Emerald.
But in all seriousness, Platinum is a close second.
Here's your answer. Kinda.
If ORAS had emeralds battle frontier it would easily be considered the best game in the series
All Pokemon remakes have a bunch of great pieces which are as good as (or even better than) their original ones. Of course this is just my opinion but I'm willing to give some examples for people's pleasure.

So it's true what /vp/ say, you only need to play Tajiri's, Morimoto's and Unno's games. The rest are pure garbage.
And Gym Leader rematches. But look at it this way, ORAS being the best Pokemon games in years says a lot about how good the Hoenn games in general are.
>letting go the genius that is satoshi tajiri to the person who made ruby/sapphire.
>Morimoto, Kawachimaru, Ohmori
ftfy
You really would rather play the original Gen 1&2 over the remakes.
It's a shame you can't buy Heart Gold and Soul Silver on the eshop-
Pretty good decision
That lines up with my taste. Do we know who's doing Ultimate Sun Moon?
>Ohmori
You're joking, right?
Platinum was alright as well, but pretty much.
Because they take everything that was good about Gen 2, including Crystal, make it all better, and then add even more cool shit.
The only thing they don't do well is the music, but Gen 2's music was so amazing I'm not surprised they weren't able to improve on it as much as I hoped.
This is opposed to ORAS which dumbed down a lot of shit, added nothing of interest from Emerald, and also failed to build on the music of the generation it was based on.
It's not gonna be masuda or omhori since there developing the switch Pokemon game.
It would be the B team of game freak
Who created
Emerald
Platinum
HG/SS
Black and white 2
Of course not. ORAS are great, despite what the contrarians spewing their fake news claims. I didn't like Sun/Moon but that's because they were more of a linear, story-driven game and I like gameplay being the emphasis in Pokemon, but that said there are people that might actually like Sun/Moon's style.
Did the new games do something to speed things up? Slow transitions and endlessly repeating animations is what kept me from Pokemon for a while.
Omhori the one who created the pokewalker.
Dex nav
Soaring feature in oras
Pokeride
He has good ideas just doesn't understand pacing in a story
Nigga, if everyone else hates ORAS, and even you don't like SUMO, how the fuck you gonna say his games are the ones you need to play?
This post is all bullshit, especially the part of ORAS failing in the music department. ORAS soundtack is phenomenal, and even the original music they added is god-tier. People bitch all the time about HGSS butchering the soundtrack, which is that game's leading criticism aside from the ridiculous level curve.
Platinum is ok too. I just really didn't like Pearl and Diamond. Do we know why Kawachimaru only directed one game? I think Platinum, altough an improvement, didn't sell well.
I'm not saying he can't contribute, I'm saying he's a garbage director
It probably didn't sell well cause everyone got diamond/pearl already, I doubt there's a lot of people that get more than 1 version.
>posts the one good song
Like fucking clockwork. How about posting a song they didn't outsource? Like the completely butchered version of Route 113?
It actually made me realize GS were kind of bad.
Yeah, but they ruined my favourite piece
youtube.com
>if everyone else hates ORAS
They don't though? Go on YouTube videos and you'll see people saying how much they love them. Even on /vp/ there have been posts positive about ORAS cropping up recently.
The problem here is that you can't seem to differentiate being upset that ORAS didn't include elements from Emerald, and just flat out hating ORAS. I'm salty they didn't bring gym leader rematches or the Battle Frontier back, but I still like the game.
>best games
>B team
Actually made me think.
The "third" versions never sell well compared to the two versions released first. The business model created by releasing two versions at the same time generates sales that a single improved version can't compete with.
Which is probably why they're trying something new with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, which seems like a third version combined with the sales model of a regular two version release.
>This post is all bullshit
How so? HGSS has everything that was included with Crystal and then some. What is the excuse for all of that great Emerald content being left out of ORAS?
It is consistently, in all polls, one of the most hated games. It is the height of unhelpful contrarianism to tell people that Ohmori's games are must play.
You're not really missing out on much if one decides to skip out on ORAS.
>Route 113
>butchered
How is it possible to have such shitty taste?
UI design. Best one yet. I can play with the stylus in one hand and mash L through dialogue with the other. Don't have to hold a button to run, and can tap to use bike and item finder.
This generation was just the best one in general that did the most for the game series as a whole.
Zinnia's theme is horrendously overrated and doesn't come close to the best themes in the series. Hell, Gen 6's entire soundtrack (including ORAS) is largely forgettable outside of that dive them, oh that shit speaks to me like no one else has.
You're missing out on the best 3DS Pokemon game.
God, I hate nu-male Maxie so much.
OR AS is a remake of R/S not of emerald
Ask yourself that question, regardless of whatever else you think Route 113 is one of the songs in ORAS that is almost universally condemned for being worse than the original. If you can seriously listen to both of those and say that the ORAS version is better than you've got problems.
>Zinnia's theme is overrated but the DIVE FUCKING THEME is actually memorable
This is the most obvious bait I've seen all week.
>The remakes themselves were also good with great UI implementation of the DS.
This. Best part about HGSS was the UI, which saved the remake of an otherwise mediocre generation.
Black/White 1&2 are the best games in the franchise by far. Anyone who disagrees is just hanging on to nostalgia
But how come that in every last poll it ranks at the bottom? Even here on an argentinian asado asado enthusiast board.
You're trolling, right? It's universally praised. You're the only person so far that I've seen say it's worse than the original. E4, and Route 110 themes are the ones that get shit on. I really hope you're just trolling and your taste isn't that bad.
Because they have no taste.
>OR AS is a remake of R/S not of emerald
Yeah, but that's a shitty excuse because HGSS were remakes of Gold and Silver, but still included content from Crystal in addition to a lot of new shit.
If they overachieved on HGSS they should have been honest pre-release and downplayed people's expectations for ORAS. There wasn't a single person excited about those games that wasn't expecting content to be in.
BW2 sure, BW1 no.
BW1 was missing everything BW2 filled in, including being able to fight all gym leaders e4 and champions.
Its a remake of r/s. Stop expecting content from another game you moron
>Gen 5 being anywhere near the best
That's some trash taste you got there friend. There is a reason why Gen 5 is the wrost selling Pokemon generation despite being on the best selling handheld: because they suck. Actually B2W2 is okay, but BW was bad and ruined that gen's reputation.
USUM doesn't come out until November tho? Are you an insider :^)
anyways, that's really not saying a whole lot, considering what's currently out. XY had a strong beginning that dropped the ball hard, and SM pretty much was the opposite, because the late game portion was when they finally decided to let you play the game for an amount of time.
I played ORAS tho and was largely disappointed with it and no "muh batal fruntear" is the last thing on my list but I'm trying to play it again to form a new found appreciation for it.
Fake news
not to mention you have to play the shittier one for the full experience of the second one.
>>Zinnia's theme is overrated
Are you saying it isn't? Because it is. If it wasn't outsourced to a fucking legend in the video game music industry I could see it being praised this much but it isn't even in the top 5 of Shimomura's best work.
>anyways, that's really not saying a whole lot
It kind of is. Especially considering IMO Platinum is the best DS Pokemon game and D/P remakes will likely be on Switch, ORAS will keep that title.
it is tho. Zinnia's theme is just a mishmash of flutes that don't even fit her character nor the tone that the music was giving you the entire way through. That dive theme is ace and is my favorite track of ORAS as it captures the mood of deep sea diving perfectly.
i never liked zinnia's theme, what do people like about it? it is good sure, but nothing special.
gen 3 was literally when the story started to slow Pokemon down though you retard gen 2 is the experience you are describing.
take your fucking goggles off gen 3 is OBJECTIVELY the WORST gen and I WILL prove it with science.
I actually don't get why. I skipped gen 4 initially but bought HG while it was still in stores, and I really didn't enjoy it, to the point where I dropped it after a particularly bland gym. I just didn't like it, the Pokemon were the same dead looking cardboard, static images I disliked in gen 3 (not the same as the static ones in gen 1 and 2) and the world aside from that lovely autumn looking route felt kind of dead as well. Pokewalker was nice though.
Can't bring myself to sell the game despite not enjoying it much though.
I'm wondering where the fuck Pokemon SunGold and MoonSilver are.
Are you saying it isn't?
Yes. It's deserving of all the praise. If you don't think it's in the Top 5 or at the very least Top 10 I don't know what to tell you lad.
didn't stop FRLG and HGSS adding content from another game you ORAS apologist.
Gen 2 still sucks, though.
He said 3DS. If you want to include DS, Platinum, BW2 and HGSS are all better games.
>ORAS being the best Pokemon games in years
What? Zinnia's theme is literally her overworld theme with a faster pace. This is wrong on so many levels. If you like the Dive theme better that's fine, but you're out of your mind if you think that is more memorable to people than Zinna's theme.
Being this retarded. BW is where the series went onto this """"""story"""""" driven nonsense that is ruining the series.
Because they have good taste.
>BW was bad
The game had a decent story, satisfying endgame, and most importantly the best art/animation out of all pokemon games before they switched to shitty low-res 3-d models. It was anything but 'bad'
/thread
>play heartgold last year for the first time/second generation for the first time
>hey this games alright so far, pretty neat pokemon
>yeah man fuckin killin all these trainers left and right, got my team all set up too this is great
>oh man an ice area check out that pokemon, ima fuck it up
>oh wow a dragon gym trainer is the next one? thats gonna be tough i dont have much to deal with that really, oh well ill figure something out
>gym leaders pokemon are nearly 15 levels higher than my team
I fought and defeated every single trainer I saw in the game up to that point, I even went off the beaten path and retraced some steps to search places I couldn't earlier in the game before heading up to that ice place and then that dragon gym.
Seriously, that level difference is FUCKED and it's dragons.
sprite animations in BW were fucking horrid
>best art/animation out of all pokemon games before they switched to shitty low-res 3-d models
>liking Gen 5's horrible moving sprites
Good job invalidating everything else you said with your objectively terrible taste. Gen 5's sprites looked like hot garbage when they were new and haven't gotten better with age.
Platinum I can agree on, and MAYBE B2W2 but not HGSS.
How bad are you? i destroyed that gym with a piloswine i picked up and just evolved to mamoswine.
Objective fact. XY are mediocre all around and Sun/Moon are more like interactive movies than games.
SM are actual fun games with a lot of gameplay improvements and is actually fun to play.
Gen 6 is trash, both games.
