I'm going over some old games that I used to play, but I mainly have obligatory shit like Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy 7, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, stuff like that.
Recommend me some underrated games. So far I've got Medievil and Toy Story 2.
Nightmare Creatures Abes Oddysse Mega Man X4 Castlevania SOTN Megaman Legends
Henry Ramirez
Soul Reaver THPS Armored Core Siphon Filter The Gex games Rayman LSD
Jason Watson
All look good, the only ones I've played from that list are Nightmare Creatures, Abe, and Rayman.
Thanks anons, keep em coming
Xavier Davis
Tomba 1 is pretty dank. It's weeb, but I've always loved Wild Arms 2. They're not underrated, but Tekken 3 and Ape Escape are both also great
Michael Wright
If you havent played Symphony of the Night then that should be the top of your list and after that mega man x4
Do it
Oliver Foster
crash team racing is one of the best kart racers ever, and i dont even like crash
Liam Reed
This user is not wrong
Jordan Ross
I've got it downloaded for later now, I've never played a Castlevania or Metroid game before.
Never heard of those so I'll check them out. I already know I don't like Tekken, but I've heard of Ape Escape often when I was a kid but never got to play it.
I used to have the demo of that, it was great. Is it any good for solo play or is splitscreen essential?
Evan Cruz
twisted metal 2 demolition racer
Joseph Evans
You are all like little overrated babies, look this!
P S Y C H I C F O R C E !
Mason Lewis
>never played castlevania or metroid before
Die monster! you don't belong in this world!
Joshua Taylor
Deception II and III Set traps to kill people. Multiple story branches and will keep you busy for awhile
Austin Gray
Not that underrated but here are some games
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins and 2 Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus Jade Cocoon Azure Dreams King's Field 2 (first one in the west) Shadow Tower Brave Fencer Musashi LoK Blood Omen
Justin Rogers
CTR is fun solo but once you master it you'll lap the AI racers. Also the battle mode is really, really good and that's MP only.
Sebastian King
Oh man there are so many-
>No weeb shit
And now I'm struggling.
Zachary Morales
>I used to have the demo of that, it was great. Is it any good for solo play or is splitscreen essential? If I remember correctly it has a campaign mode of sorts, that is more intricate than the standard "grand prix" option
Michael Brooks
Actually and legitimately, Stuart Little 2. It's surprisingly really good
Luke Rivera
Yup, CTR has an overworld with 4 areas that contain some races and a boss. Place 1st in all the races and you can race the boss. Beat all the bosses and you race the final boss. There's also cups, find the letters races and time trials
Daniel Smith
haven't played a Megaman or Mario game either, unless you count Luigi's Mansion. I didn't get to grow up on Nintendo IPs unless you consider Pokémon one of them
whats this about?
used to play the shit out of the Twisted Metal demo as a kid. I also had some other game called Destruction Derby but I don't remember anything about it.
I remember liking the movie when I was young, what kind of game is it?
Also to add my own recommendation to my own thread, pic related.
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks is top stuff, especially co-op
Joshua Lewis
40 Winks Threads of Fate Soul Reaver Rising Zan Jet Moto 3 Tomba 2 Klonoa Dexter's Laboratory: Mandark's Lab Eggs of Steel Jersey Devil
Kayden White
Sheep, dog 'n' wolf I found the puzzles to be way too hard for me during my preteen days. Also I didn't know much english so I couldn't understand half of the hints
Julian Bell
Oh shit, nevermind. Read that "underrated PS2 games" for some reason
Jeremiah Kelly
>Sheep, dog 'n' wolf
Used to love this game, I actually played it recently. There was another Looney Toons game I liked about time travel but I never got to finish it because the disk got fucked somehow. Hope there's a rom available.
Charles Phillips
Dragon Valor Syphon Filter 1, 2, and 3 Herc's Adventures
Gabriel Murphy
Silent Hill Parasite Eve
Ethan Cruz
SH is far from underrated, but I never got to play Parasite Eve. Only PE2 got a european release, and apparently it's very different to PE1. What's it like?
Chase Morgan
PE1 is like a mix of RE and FF, with kinda-ATB system being implemented, together with free movement in the combat "arena" screen.
I'm an Europoor as well, so I only got to play the first game for the first time mere couple years ago. It was damn great, no idea why Square didn't bring it over. Only real downside I can think of is that it's kinda short, even if there'd be an entire bonus "dungeon" of sorts.
>SH is far from underrated Compared to its "prettier", next-gen sequel(s), it definitely is. A shame, even more so since it's the best game of its series.
Oliver Bell
Actual good underrated list but thats not the brand of cock OP actually wanted in his mouth.
Ian Watson
Looks great actually, thanks. I'm a huge fan of RE and SH and I always wish for more similar games.
Chase Jackson
>Tomba 1 is pretty dank. It's weeb I want leddit to leave
Mason Bell
>no weebshit Gran Turismo 2 and Colin McRae 2
Brody Nguyen
I mean you can call me out for saying dank I guess but it's not like I'm the only user who said week in the thread. Also OP someone mentioned Klonoa and that is probably like the best platformer on ps1 so keep it in mind
Sebastian Wright
>Klonoa
saw it earlier and it looks cute. I've got a big list on a .txt file thanks to this thread
Liam Thomas
This was my JAM
Matthew Kelly
I have a friend who sperges a lot about Monster Rancher, I had no idea it was a PS1 game.
Nathaniel Jackson
Silent bomber Einhander These games are why I love the PS1.
Austin Gray
I don't know if anyone but me liked this game, but...
Space Hulk: Vengeance of the blood Angels
Ryan Garcia
Too hard/scary/confusing for me at seven.
Ryan Mitchell
>Silent Bomber Good taste user. About 15 years ago I had the shittiest time finding a physical copy of that game.
Christopher Baker
On what planet are THPS and Rayman underrated?
Connor Thompson
I forgot 40k games existed before Dawn of War. Might check it out, I never had a chance to play the Space Hulk tabletop game either.
Chase Martinez
Well. I fucked that greentext all up, didn't I?
Brayden Watson
Psychic force is a fighting game, you float in the stage and shoot projectiles all over the fucking place.
Or at least that is what I remember.
Zachary Hughes
The same planet that OP lists medievil as underrated. I just followed suit
Blake Morgan
PE1 is almost completely FF tbqh. Every enemy seems to be able to shoot lasers or fireballs, and after every fight you're rewarded with more ammo than you would have used. That being said, it's a great game, and it's cool how they based it off of a lot of real world science (though they took some massive fucking liberties with it).
Robert Perry
Adventures of Little Ralph: Simple but solid platformer. Japan only though but being a platformer text is unimportant.
Gunner's Heaven/Rapid Reload: Basically Gunstar Heroes on the ps1. While not quite as good as GSH it still is a great game.
Inteligent Qube: Great puzzle game. The mechanics are simple but incredibly deep and used amazingly.
Jeremiah Sanders
Just remembered another, the Adventures of Lomax. Based on the Lemmings series it's a simple platformer but really solid. The most notable aspect is the absolutely beautiful art. Its some of the best pixelart I have ever seen.
Camden Kelly
Tbh I had no idea Medievil was popular, I thought it was more of a cult hit than something fairly mainstream for its time, like Driver.
Isn't PE based off of some japanese novel? I'd like to read it if the translation isn't godawful engrish.
Josiah Thomas
Klonoa Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf/Sheep Raider Wargames: Defcon 1 Internal Section MDK Pandemonium Tiny Tank Team Buddies Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure Silhouette Mirage Vib Ribbon

not underrated, but wild arms is a great classic rpg
Aiden Morales
Jesus, looking back the PS1 had a fucking amazing library of games.
Owen Walker
Parasite Eve is so weird and something you could only ever get from that experimental PS1 era when Squaresoft could do no wrong. I remember being impressed by map and all the cinematic pieces like driving in a car and chatting.
Easton Stewart
Klonoa beach volleyball. It's kinda like what CTR is to the crash series, except a little less good. It's a fun game and I like it better than the actual klonoa games, but I'm sure many will disagree with me on that. Still, definitely one that gets overshadowed by it's mainline games. I have yet to play a sports game more fun than that one, and sadly the same counts for CTR, it's the best racing game ever created.
Nathan Sanders
The intro is a major plot dump and is about 10 minutes long of pure 90's FMV. Game is fucking excellent but was always overshadowed by colony wars.
Lincoln Moore
>Die Hard Trilogy
Emulating the ps1 mouse with a real mouse for die hard 2 (don't even think about trying to play it with a controller) gives an entirely acceptable and fun experience once you tweak sensitivity to taste. Emulating one of the light guns gives better control but since they inherently do not use a crosshair its impossible to know where you are actually aiming.
Alexander Bennett
Yeah, but the novel is way less ape-shit, it's just about one girl getting mutated. Apparently the translation isn't that good though.
Parasite Eve is probably my fav after MGS. I just love the atmosphere (great mix of JRPG/westaboo/nighttime/opera/crazy science) and the battle system. I wish that type of gameplay hadn't completely disappeared.
PE2 was meh in comparison, they just wanted to do RE and all it did was make the game less unique in my opinion.
Policenauts is also worth playing, though it's not as good as Snatcher and I was kind of disappointed the neo-noir/cyberpunk vibe was absent for so much of the game after the great intro.
Brandon Wood
>no weeb shit
Why do filthy EOPs still play videogames?
Benjamin Wilson
There's actually a PS1 theme with some of the sounds, can't remember much though since I switched to a comfy tearaway one a long while ago.
Used to play the shit out of Die Hard Trilogy with the light gun, as well as RE: Survivor, Time Crisis, and Maximum Force. So sad light guns aren't a thing anymore. On the topic of Die Hard, there's Nakatomi Plaza for the PC. It's a FPS that tries to recreate the movie quote-for-quote, I had fun with it as a kid.
I think I remember playing this just a handful of times. There was also another similarly-themed game but it was a third person mech shooter I don't remember the name of (I thought it was G-Police)
John Brown
When my PC was broken, I set up my PS2 and looked through the pile of old games I used to play.
Obviously I played star wars battlefront 2 for like the first night or two, but I eventually started digging deeper through that pile of games.
I found Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets, for the PS1!
That game is rock dick hard solid, and it's actually pretty good! I dropped some MDMA and hung out with my friend and we played that game for 7 hours straight and completed it in one sitting..
Kayden Perry
i always play on ez
umihara kawase shun, great physics based platformer kings field, havent gotten far yet but its pretty enjoyable what ive played. i recommend using retroarch to play this. this is because a specific core can overclock to play at a better fps which kings field has genuinely bad fps and it will make it much more enjoyable. open retroarch, grab the core beetle-psx-hw, run it once and play for as long as you can before you throw up and gain an appreciation. then go to retroarch directory, open retroarch-core-options and change "beetle_psx_hw_cpu_overclock = "disabled"" to "enabled". it wont be full 60 fps all the time but it will double the frames and still drop frames
Samuel Moore
There's a PS1 theme that plays the startup.
Justin Morris
>action game >tank controls >sexy leads
I remember there was an outcry about Fear Effect back in the day, but I wish it aged better. Art style is good, but so much of the game are pixelated as fuck kinematics.
Aiden Bennett
> but it was a third person mech shooter I don't remember the name of
Most likely Armoured Core.
Kayden Hill
Had no idea, this is nice.
Dylan Cruz
Nah, that wasn't it. I typed a load of guesses at the name and came up with Future Cop: LAPD. turns out I never played G-Police
Elijah Carter
Is Vagrant Story underrated or is it popular? I can't really tell. Being Square I'd think the latter, but then I used to think that about Parasite Eve too, and was a bit surprised to learn that apparently it wasn't actually all that well-known.
Anthony Harris
Try out monkey hero, alundra and srw alpha gaiden. Great games and can sink a lot of time in them.
Sebastian Morales
Vagrant Story was never underrated, it simply didn't resonate with Square's traditional JRPG audience at the time. I'd say it's overlooked but even that isn't true.
Luke Carter
I just remember the sexy ads.
Played through the game a couple of years ago mostly out of curiosity. It was perfectly fine, but not much more than that, didn't really make me want to play the sequel.
Logan Cox
not underrated, just boring looking.
James Morales
aww shit ya'll niggas never played Apocalypse?
Twin stick shooter (or dpad and face buttons if you hate yourself) starring the low poly likeness of Bruce Willis along with minimal cutscene dialogue and randomly recycled one-liners. He plays a badass scientist man who uses a super gun to kill the genetically engineered Four Horsemen of Apocalypse and overthrow the insane Reverend who created them to rule the world.
Brandon Baker
>STRAP ONE ON, ITS TIME TO JAM
Jack Moore
>look it up >it's not based on a movie Huh.
Gabriel Rodriguez
Play Tomba 2 too
Tomba 1 and 2 are THE quintessential underrated sidescrolling platformers for the psx
Mason Lee
What's this from?
Jason Anderson
Yeah, it really does. There are tons of gems out there. I wish we had more threads like this one. Also, does anyone know of a game, I think it was from the PS one, which was a turnbase robot fighting strategy game? It was really cool, but I dont quite remember it well.
Noah Brown
Kknd 2 crossfire Diablo 1
Isaac Watson
Front Mission 3?
Gavin Anderson
Wild 9, God Hand and Digimon Rumble Arena.
Anthony Rivera
>Die Hard Trilogy
Glad I wasn't the only one to enjoy that. I remember 2 and 3 well but vaguely remember 1 despite playing that one the most.
Ryder Wood
Klonoa, Jumping Flash
Liam Baker
>Tomba This... Looks fun
Liam Ortiz
Echo Night had a pretty nice and spooky visual style and atmosphere.
Sebastian Taylor
Thank you a lot, dude. That's the one. I've never really completed it, I remember being hard as fuck. I'm giving it a go right now.
