If the ps1 sold better than the n64
why is the n64 the nostalgia boner of the two?if there is much more people that bought the ps1 why is the n64 more remembered?

Because the games
Honestly, I had both when growing up and I don't understand why I loved the N64 so much more. PS1 had way, waaaay more games, but I guess the N64 games just stuck with me more, Mario64, Zelda, Banjo-Kazooie, they were just more memorable. That said, I loved my PS1 and had lots of fun with it and made fond memories. Man, especially that intro sound, still gives me lovely shivers every time.
n64 had cool exclusives
ps1 had pc ports
Yeah the first Tekken was so much better on PC.
everyone played the same 5 games.
like every nintedo console
ever
PS1 had more quality and quanitity to be honest. Everybody played different things though, that's why you usually don't have a conversation like
>Dude did you have [console]
>Yea, i LUUURVED [console]
>Did you play [game] and [GAME]?
>FUUUCK I DID: BEST GAMES EVER AM I RIGHT?
>RRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIGHTY RIGHT
That just happens with every nintendo console. It did have fun party games.
>tekken
>good
lmao
N64 had superior games, like SM64 and OoT.
its always I LOVE MARIO PARTY AHAHA ANALOGS ARE SHIT
GOLDENEYE AM I RITE NO ODDJOB
MAJORAS MASK
but never a single coment on the ps1 besides its intro
>N64 is more remembered
By whom? You? Me? Some article you read online? Sup Forums?
>especially that intro sound, still gives me lovely shivers every time.

The Nintendo 64 had very little games, but the quality ratio was extremely high. So you look back on N64 as being this very quality product.
PS1 had more good games than N64 had, but it also had a lot of shitty ones. I have more fond memories of my 64 than my PS1 simply because almost every game I bought for the PS1 was fucking shit, while every 64 game I bought was fucking great. I imagine a lot of people had the same experience as I did as a kid.
That's the fucker. Brings back memories of Spyro, Croc, that really weird Yu-Gi-Oh! game...
If a PS1 owner wants to talk about a game, they talk about that game specifically.
If N64 owner wants to talk about a game, they start with how Nintendo and their consoles are the best thing cince Jesus. See Nintendo defence force shit. TLDR: Fanboys
nintendo has a cult following in america
>Mario64, Zelda, Banjo-Kazooie, they were just more memorable
What about
Final Fantasy 7 and 8?
Metal Gear Solid?
Tekken 3?
Castlevania SOTN?
Resident Evil?
Silent Hill?
Crash Bandicoot?
Gran Turismo 2?
Spyro?
PaRappa the Rapper?
Multiplayer
shovelware
>N64 has fewer but good games so when I bought something there's a greater probability of my bought game not being shit.
>He didn't see what gameplay a game has before deciding what to buy.
Not knowing what kind of game you're gonna buy with your allowance money at that time is the pinnacle of retardation.
wise words couldn't agree more
It's because it was the last good console from nintendo.
that is a very very good point
but the gamecube was great
As a kid I felt spoiled with all the great N64 games I owned, but looking back at it now, it really did have a lackluster library. There really weren't that many games on the system at all. But most of them were just really good so they stick in my memory.
PS1 had way more games, but not a lot of them were really good. Out of that list I only had Tekken 3 and the Spyro games, as well as YGO, some kind of Lego game in space or something and Heart of Darkness. PS1 had a lot more games, and some really great games, but also a lot of shitty games.
the only reason people say a lot of ps1 games are shit its because it had a fuck ton of games,if the n64 had has much games as the ps1 it would have been the same situation
...
PS1 had better graphics and more games.
N64 had more memorable games and was able to sidestep lower graphics by using stylized graphics well, which aged better than most PS1 games' attempt at realism.
Playstation users had new IPs and systems to play, nintendo users only got gimmicks and mario #32942c so rely on nostalgia.
Americans are the only ones how bought the N64,a lot of the big gaming websites around the web are american, you do the math.
Anyway the N64 was the weakest console in the 5th gen in terms of games.
quality > quantity
The PS1 had more good games AND more shit games. Just a vastly more diverse library loaded with hidden gems and total garbage. The PS1 probably has more good games than any other platform, except the ps2. This isn't a Wii situation where the library was big and had a ton of great and terrible games. Most were just terrible.
ps1 games aged worse.
hey, i know let's make a second analog and not use it to control the camera in any game.
I meant to say the Wii has a huge library, but lacks the abundance of great software like the PS1 and ps2 has.
>better graphics
lol
Ps1 had many classics that stand on their own.
N64 has aged rather poorly so people just discuss their nostalgia.
it was at least better than the saturn and the jaguar.
Actually this
He is not wrong
>than the saturn
He is wrong
Because people remember both
-PS1 because it was better
-N64 because of nostalgia
And you remember only the latter
not very hard to do that
All the good ps1 games got shitty sequels that killed their franchises, and attempting to discuss the good ones without someone bringing up the shitty ones is impossible.
Because muh zelda and muhrio
PS1 had better games
N64 had the funnest games
Because you probably played the N64 with friends more than you played your PS1 with friends, and social memories are easily remembered.
How does this look on an emulator with high resolution and perspective correction?
isn't a better game one that's more fun?
PS1 had a T-rex. The N64 did not, thuis the PS1 is factually the superior choice.
Also: sony had demos like this which were fucking blind blowing at the time.
Its already at double the resolution, perspective correction is for underage fags.
PS1 transitioned well into PS2 and PS3
N64 was the end of an era
Better overall I mean, Nintendo focused more on gameplay than any other aspect
>spyro
He said GOOD GAMES
N64 was cool, because
- "Nintendo", well known already
- the amazing first party games. Both for both kids and adults. Super Mario 64 bundled, god damn.
- the fact that analog stick movement was mandatory for the games. Honestly a godsend for 3d games
The PS1 was cool because:
- the cd tray and audio quality
- a games market akin to the PC, aka. tons of games in all genres and for all ages (and in varying quality). Something for everyone
Sadly Sony went with what was basically a Snes controller with extra shoulder buttons for camera pivoting for a 3D game system. If Dualshock support had been mandatory, it would have been amazing
I dont know
N64 have like 5 games while ps1 is the paradise of jrpgs among others
PS1 has a lot of niche games like RPGs, fighting games and dogfighting games as its best titles while the n64s best titles are racing games and platformers
>n64s best titles are racing games
What the fuck, racing games on n64 were what, Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing?
Did the N64 have any creative japanese games?
i don't get your point
Not that guy but the Cruisin games, F Zero, and Extreme G to name a few others.
No thanks god
I do hear a lot of people reminisce about those, so perhaps OP is wrong.
That's still seems lacking compared to PS1 racing games tho
What he asking was, is there any weird ass shit game on N64 similar to Incredible Crisis, Pepsiman, LSD, Bishi Bashi, and countless others
Mickey Speedway, Wave Race, Cruisin, F-Zero, Excitebike 64, Beatle Adventure Racing, 1080 just to name ones that I like. All really stand out for one reason or another and are all good quality.
but people talk about n64 much much more
you don't see a fan boy of any other games besides FF7
The N64 had barely any game to begin with and was the beginning of Nintendo's downfall in the home console sector and third party support.
The only people who remember it fondly are american Nintendo cultists, everyone else including Japan acknowledge it was a failure, to the point that even japs have more affection and nostalgia for the Saturn, because at least that had games.
N64 had very small japanese support,i guess Bangai O was somewhat creative.
Quality over quantity.
You just keep stumbling across N64fags, it doesn't mean PS1 isn't popular
I think there's alot of nostalgia because GC/Wii/Wii U failed to follow up. Zelda got really shitty after MM, Banjo/Rare died, star fox died, Mario Party went to shit, Pokemon craze was slowing down, Mario Sunshine sucked, etc. The only thing that got better after n64 was F-Zero (which died on GC) and smash bros.
I have no idea what you are talking about. I had both too and the n64 sucked balls compared to the ps1 exept the constroller.

Those are the ones i can remember without thinking more than half a second. N64 ? Mario and golden eye machine.
Those who are more nostalgic about the n64 are retards who represent everything that is wrong with gaming :
You prefer the x pèse consle with only a few good games to the better console that had the second best library only second to the ps2.
Fuck off
the ps1 is popular a lot more acording to the sales
it just seems to have been forgotten
fpbp
The PlayStation, while still a brilliant game system, was the Chad machine.
N64 had milestone software like Mario 64, Goldeneye, OoT.
You have to remember that in the 90's couch multiplayer was the best, I remember going playing at one of my friends house and play Goldeneye, MK, DKR, Waverace, etc. So a lot of people like me will remember more the N64 since I can remember hanging out with my friends playing it. PS1 had multiplayer games but you needed an adapter to play with 4 people and even then the amount of 4-player games in N64 was great.
Additionally you had some groundbreaking games like OoT and Mario 64 which set standards for many games since then.
No, this place is just NA-heavy. And I'm not making a joke about obesity.
The nostalgiafags were children at the time, and the N64 was targeted at a younger demographic than the PS1.
>Chad machine.
Stop this retroactive branding shit using last-gen as standard and actually look at PS1's library. What PS1 had was VARIETY, if both quantity and quality compared to N64 unless you were really into collectathons.
>Airblade
>PSX
>padding out your list with PS2 games and multiplats
Not today
Had both. The N64 had 4 controller ports and better "party" games and in general multiplayer titles so it's fondly remembered for having out with your friends getting in fights over goldeneye or Mario party or smash bros. the PlayStation had a larger library with many more quality games, people literally remember the same 10 N64 games because those were the only ones worth a damn.
They're both great systems.
Not very many people remember the Saturn either but its still objectively better than the N64
In Europe there's an opposite situation, no one knows what the hell a N64 was.
Nintendo was always a synonymous of portable console here.
>saturn
There are many fans and threads of spyro, silent evil, resident hill, sotn and metal gear (specially metal gear) around. Maybe n64 games get more? But it's not an overwhelming difference
I don't know about you, but from my experience everyone talked about the PS1 more.
It helped that PS1s had modchips and the games were cheap as hell
Not really. The reason why N64 classics are still talked about was because Zelda and Mario is still going and still getting good games after all these years. They're probably talking about games that still aged well, like OoT or Mario 64, and I doubt they're talking games like Goldeneye 007 other than nostalgia.
Also, most PS1 franchises are dead by now. The only thing that's still "alive" is GT and Sport seems to be DOA.
Also this . It seems N64 was popular in America. We asians were more favorable towards PS1. I legit never saw N64 with my own eyes.
I owned that shit too. I remembered playing Daytona, Sega Rally, and Panzer Dragoon. Good times.
What is FF7 or MGS1? Did you forget how sheer fan willpower got Cloud into a smash bros game ~20 years later?
What helped PS1 was Sony not hovering over developers like Nintendo so third parties jump aboard. Which is weird when you consider some turds like Superman 64 that somehow got released for N64.
I literally remembered it wrong. Shit user thanks for pointing out my mistake.
wat? Vaporwave is basically a big ass ps1 commercial
because n64 was the beginning of nintendo ending their practice of tight supervision over developers. I remember devs hated nintendo for that shit during snes era.
Compare this to this thread
I guess it was more about quality over quantity, but PS1 had so many good games and everyone just get nostalgic over the system. Like I remember some people still played Tekken 3 beachball minigame in 2008
im from europe and i can confirm, its just online that there are a lot of nintendunces
Makes me wonder how different things would be if Square didn't jump ship to Sony. The limitations of the N64 might've hurt them pretty badly in the long run rather than have the springboard into success with the PS1.
This. The more popular a console is, the more shovelware there is for it.
>why is the n64 the nostalgia boner of the two?if there is much more people that bought the ps1 why is the n64 more remembered?
n64 was for rich families, ps1 was for poor families
ps1 players are working their low income jobs and have no time to talk about videogames anymore
n64 players are in the lap of luxury, as usual, and can afford to spend time reminiscing
It might be because when you look back and say "wow I wish I could play that ps1 game again" you can just play it because everyone has atleast a ps2/3. Not so much with n64 though
You gotta remove those nostalgia goggles to fit your narrative, ps1 was the better console with every type of game you could imagine from shitty movie adaptation to sports and adventure and great games like ff7 or mgs, what did the n64 have mario zelda and goldeneye and that's fucking it so stop acting like you are some kind of subversive motherfucker because it sounds cooler to you
settle down there, tank controls
goldeneye is a shit game nowadays
a great game is one that still holds up to day
i.e.mario 64 and mgs
if you're defending the n64 the controls and by extend the controller isn't something you want to bring up
You posted this in that ZSNES thread a little while ago but never said what game it was.
Can you tell us what game it is?
>tfw I love all three 5th Gen consoles
>tfw I see posters in threads like this acting like it's 1999
I thought we were going to talk about the cool stuff each console had and promote some gems like Alundra for the PS1 or Goemon's Great Adventure for the N64.
