I try not to overlevel my characters when I play JRPGs anymore.
but do you still throw stones like it's Arabia in the 7th century?
>How did it change your life?
One time I had a dream that i went to my brothers room and they were all playing it. I never got far because I was like 5 and bad at video games.
I played the shit out of FFTA though
I can't not, user. I'm autistic.
It made almost every other game to follow it feel like trash.
die fucking sonybro
It's my favourite game and largely defines what I looked for in games going forward.
I also think it's a seriously overrated title though, having played the shit out of it enough to understand how broken it actually is and what relatively little depth it has compared to other non-shovel SRPGs
>I played the shit out of FFTA though
>die sonybro
>on a series that's been on both Playstation and Nintendo handhelds
Stop while you're ahead

Vanguard bandits >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> FFT
i only played FFTA2 and its my favorite game of all time. put thousands of hours in should i play this game? can you mix classes?
What was Delita thinking?
That game is meh at best.
I'm not sure but I think OP seems very passionate about the first FFT, a game released exclusively on the ps1.
And again, I'm not sure, but I think that the ps1 was a videogame console manufactured by the japanese consumer electronic company named Sony.
...
ooooh c'mon snowflake...
I think my favorite is Antidote just for the atmosphere, although there's a lot of good battle tracks
>put thousands of hours in should i play this game?
The gameplay is roughly the same but here's the major differences
>all friendly characters are either humes or monsters (bombs, goblins, dragons, etc.), so there aren't any viera, nu mou, moogles, or so forth. Chronologically FFT happens after all of those non-humes went extinct, not even joking
>Plotline isn't about running a clan and dealing with your retarded family member's cowardice. Instead it's about international politics, how your retarded 2 half-brothers are greedy, feudal class system of peasants vs. nobles, and demons.
>Can't place locations on the ground (can't remember if this was FFTA1 or FFTA2 sorry)
>No overpowered ultima abilities, but there is a shitty ultima spell late in the game
>Bravery and Faith are stats, with the former determining your reactive ability potency (trigger rate) and the latter either increasing or decreasing incoming and outgoing magical spells
>can you mix classes?
Yes, the original does it slightly better than FFTA because classes aren't locked by race. You have much more freedom to make what you want
Considering ffta2 is the worst of fft, fft war of the Lions (this is just 1 with better translation and a few good extras), fft, and ffta2. Yeah.
Just a note: play fft war of the lions, be ready for this to be a more adult story, and get ready for better class mixing.
I have to say the part where the woman says she was raped was shocking. Can't remember much about the scene, but it's in there.
...
So you never finished it because of the sharkings?
Holy fuck, I remembered the first half of this clearly but I never noticed the implications of the second.
That's from the WOTL retranslation so I'm not even sure it was in the original script. His name went from "Barinten" to "Gerrith Barrington" hilariously
>there will never be another one
Algus did everything wrong
better class mixing you say well my dick just got hard and came in an instant
thanks man really helpful.
prob gonna emulate on my vita or psp
god i love this genre maybe with that new mario game coming out the genre well get a new breath of life
on a side note do they explain how those races go extinct?
Due to only being humans, all classes can now mix. Want a monk that can cast spells? Do it up. A dual wielding knight? You bet your ass. Summoner that can also shoot guns? Why not?
Don't use guides your first time through on what's best. Half of what's great with this game is experimentation. However if you must only use one that tells you how to unlock classes.
That one cutscene outside in the rain where Wiegraf is crawling on the ground and that music is playing when the stone speaks to him.
>Ramza, its power is magnificent! No, not just the
power. Centuries of knowledge ingrained into my brain.
That scene has always stuck with me
It's not exactly accurate. The Japanese is:
>それはおまえの身体が 覚えているのだ…。恐怖をな…。だが、安心しろ…、次第に恐怖が恐怖でなくなるよ。クックックック。
Which translated literally is more like:
>Because your body remembers. Your body remembers the terror. But rest easy... that terror will gradually cease to be. [insert menacing laugh here]
The WotL translation fluffs the line up a bit, but it's fine because what he did to her is implied both here and in previous dialogue.
Some kind of calamity, I don't remember if it says exactly what happened. All I know is some kind of huge event wiped the races from FFTA and FF12 out.
>Centuries of knowledge ingrained into my brain.
>Wiegraf is Neo
I'm hoping that the setting gets some kind of revitalization seeing the creator of Ivalice came back to make some Ivalice themed content for FF14, as well as the FF12 remake launching soon.
It gave me hope.
Thats why I always loved the holy stones power.
>gain an insane amount of combat techniques, magic spells, become wise as fuck, all that history, heck even probably can speak & read ancient languages fluently
if he's not on bad terms with square enix anymore, we might get a new game unlike this
We'll see how the raid goes. One of the interviews Yoshida gave about Matsuno coming back talked about if Matsuno was prepared for the work load. YoshiP emphasized that shit is heavy and Matsuno should be prepared if he really wanted to work with the XIV team. Matsuno may just not be fit for game development these days.

He answereth truly of things Hidden or Secret. He causeth Diseases and cureth them. Again, he giveth great Wisdom and Knowledge in Mechanical Arts; and can change men into other shapes. He governeth 36 Legions of Spirits. And his Seal is this, which is to be worn as aforesaid.”
>not hanging out with your buddy Marbas and getting that sweet mechanical arts smarts
>How did it change your life?
It made me realize the worst cliches in the FF series and what not to do in a tactics game.
Why don't they release it on ps4 psn so I can buy it again and pal it more conveniently?
>and what not to do in a tactics game.
what should you do instead?
You should not respond to bait.
i need a laugh today, my dog died
Tried emulating it recently after having played FFTA and A2 already but it felt incredibly slow in comparison. Might need to try again since I really dig the idea of a darker, more political plot.
Also, the (ingame) menus were all at 30 FPS while the rest was all 60, is it not possible to properly run it at 60?
>but it felt incredibly slow in comparison
Did you emulate the PS1 version or the PSP version? If you have an unpatched copy of the PSP version, you have artificial slowdown because Square was retarded with the porting. No joke. Using abilities/spells takes twice as long than it does compared to the PSP, which makes 20 minute battles 40 minutes for fuck-all reason
Why is Ogre Tactics so shit compared to FFT?
What went so terribly wrong?
I am about to play it while riding my stationary bicycle.
No and in hindsight I should have mentioned it since I know about the problem. I was playing patched War of the Lions.
The fights just felt a lot more clunky and less refined, but I probably didn't give it as much of a chance as I should have.
Bad class system
It didn't, it was just a Chaos route lite ripoff from TO with worse characters, worse pacing and worse overall writing, but now with even more broken gameply and tons of fluff that means absolutly nothing.
Games that came out since FFTactics have improved Tactics games as a whole. For example, being able to revise moves before passing the turn. Or better use of the level system. Ranged attacks not being blocked because of field of view limitations. Etc. FFTactics has a lot of flaws that people don't admit because "its the all holy FFTactics, you don't question it!"
One time I played all day, then went outside, and after walking for a bit my brain was telling me I had to wait my turn to move more.
Delita alone is better than any character in TO.
>One of the interviews Yoshida gave about Matsuno coming back talked about if Matsuno was prepared for the work load.
Do you remember where you read that?
If FFT was never released, I would never be reading this thread right now.
What games are you referring to specifically?
>Ranged attacks not being blocked because of field of view limitations
Do you mean that they should or shouldn't be blocked?
It's literally Chaos Route Vyce without being a murderhobo, don't kid yourself.
So it shouldn't have been released.
tried playing it yesterday but i can't stand how slow the game is holy fucking shit.
I liked the monk's fanarts tho
It taught me the key to winning is to throw rocks at your friends and yell in corner.
...
I've tried playing it twice, but I just don't think it's my type of game. I like everything but the battles. They just move too slowly for me.
>vgleaks.com/final-fantasy-30th-anniversary-roadmap/
>Season Pass:
>Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions and Chrono Trigger could be released on Steam before the end of 2017.
>Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XV are coming to PC, but likely not until early-mid 2018.
Turns out the leaks was false. Square Enix should port this game to Steam. I would buy it again.
>What games are you referring to specifically?
Most Tactics games released after FFTactics fixed one or all of the issues I named. Fire Emblem allowed you to alter chosen commands before passing the turn. NI games, as much as I don't like them, still had better use of the height mechanic and didn't completely keep a mage/archer from attacking just because they had a 0.5 platform in their field of vision. Valkyria Chronicles did have characters get hurt if they were facing away from the enemy, but nowhere near as bad as FFTactics does.
I liked the gba game played it on fast fastforward
i felt like playing an mmo
sorry man that blows
...
Sup Forums could have taught you that.
...
last good one I've got I think, enjoy
I was a scrub that played through it on my phone, and it was my go to phone game for a long time until my phone fucked off and deleted the game + all data in the final chapter and I haven't gotten it back yet.
Just grinding on the bus everyday before and after work.
Didn't change anything because I realized how bad the gameplay of 16 bits JRPGs and onwards is since I played the original XCOM.
Sadly FFT also has an awful story, bad graphics and just OK OST, which are the only salving grace of the best games in the genre, so it's plain and simple, bad, and only overhyped by contrarians who haven't played good games like the mentioned Xcom, neither ToEE, Wizardy 8, Divinity Original Sin or Jagged Alliance.
>FFT
>awful storu
Lel, stop reading here. Nice bait though, made me reply.
My negro
Have shit tastes somewhere else
>FFT thread
>somewhere else
I'm afraid you're lost, retard
Go make a VB thread and watch it die in 5 minutes.
FFT is known for its deep and complex story though.
Not that guy but:
>a great war that happened in the past
>all the nobles hate you because you aren't pure bred
>all the commoners hate you because you're half high born
>your best friend betrays you
>the church is evil
>last half the game is just "lol monsters did it"
It's a collection of all the most overdone FF cliches.

Both Sakaguchi and Matsuno felt for the Mobileshit game meme
No. It has never been done in FF
>a majority of Sup Forums has shit tastes

Make me
So is there an FF with
>good writing without anime cliche
>Very good vilains that are not manicheans
>Good overarching story
>That is in the best world that FF come up with filled lore
>That is set in the a good setting
>That had a good ost
>amazing characters
>a good gameplay
??
>FFT is known for its deep and complex story though.
So is FFIV and VII. That doesn't make their stories deep or complex. It's mostly thought that by people who played the games when they were 10 and have little to no exposure to any other RPG series besides Final Fantasy.
Suikoden II did a very similar story to FFTactics. And did it much better.
The both of you stop being faggots
Here's your Vanguard Bandits thread
Not him but no, FF is full of anime cliche. FFXII and FFT are the exceptions because Matsuno is westaboo
So is there an FF with
>good writing without anime cliche
>Very good vilains that are not manicheans
>Good overarching story
>amazing characters
>a good gameplay
Not really no.
>That is in the best world that FF come up with filled lore
>That is set in the a good setting
>That had a good ost
These however can apply to FF games.
It taught me that Square doesn't know how to make a SRPG.
>they celebrate the Japanese release of a video game
Do you guys also celebrate the Japanese New Year instead of your own.
i downloaded suikoden ii, i'm in for a good game?
>>Suikoden II did a very similar story to FFTactics. And did it much better.
> It's mostly thought that by people who played the games when they were 10
Go replay it. You'll find that it has the same cringey mediocre shit. I mean for fuck's sake, a vampire called Neclord? Truly?
It made me realize I cant rent rpg games as a kid.
>the most renowned SRPG is FFT
>Square doesn't know how to make a SRPG.
Never change user
I'd argue that Square doesn't know how to make a decent game NOW, as opposed to SquareSoft before the merge with Enix.
I mean, it was fine until I reached Wiegraf who you can only beat with a very specific set of skills, and then even when I beat him there's a fight immediately after where you have to protect this stupid character who dives headfirst into the enemy and dies before you even get a turn to act.
You don't like Neclord because of his name? And the Neclord side quest is one of the best side quests in RPG history. You do get that the whole thing is a parody of Castlevania, right? A clan of Vampire hunters chasing after an undead Vampire who looks like Dracula...made by Konami...
When I said Suikoden II was a similar story to FFtactics, I mean the war plot, nobles vs commoners, revolution, Jowy vs Delita's backstory, etc.
Well i think you misunderstood here. FFT's story is a story of honour, class war, conspiracy, betrayal.. It strikes a perfect balance between the traditional whimsy of the Final Fantasy series with a more serious, and ultimately rather dark, story. Framed from the perspective of a historian looking back on events in the murky past, the game's presentation of its world is relatively reserved: it presents the player with a sweeping look at people, politics, and events without itself getting too caught up in any of its own characters' emotions and causes. You have here two characters that are both going to help Ivalice by one way or another. Ramza will stop the world from getting worse by elimating the lucavi and Delita will make the world of ivalice better by being the king during his life.
