Both Riku and Sora are both basicly gods. They had no training at all compared to Aqua and shit and they can still cut buildings, use multiple keybaldes, keep up solo with some of the strongest bad guys in the series etc.

I thought this got retconned. Didn't Terra just give Riku one and Sora has Ventus semen inside of him. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention during BBS to understand what that part on Destiny Island even meant.

Terra passed on the ability to wield a Keyblade to Riku, and Sora can use one because of Ventus' heart, but the original Kingdom Key that appears was supposed to belong to Riku. At the time, he was taken by darkness though, so it went down the list to the next available person and Sora got it. Kingdom Key wasn't supposed to be his, but it accepted him over the course of KH1.

It was a dream within a dream. Somehow Xigbar and the other 'norts trapped him in some kind of sleep inception.

Xion/Roxas/Aqua were just hallucinations I believe, the darkness and the multiple hearts he has inside him fucking with his head

Is Re: Chain of Memories better than Chain of Memories? I had to give up on the GBA version like 3/4 of the way through Sora's story and just read the rest of the story online. I like the card battling, but the movement and aiming are SHIT and the tinny music sucks when I'm used to the regular kind. Re: seems like it might solve both of these problems and some others I had.

Sora is adventuring through the realm of sleep. Specifically, he's traveling to the worlds locked in sleep after the debauchery in KH1 mucked them up. After he unlocks the keyhole in the sleeping world, the world should soon thereafter awaken.

But, Xehanort knows about all of this, and hijacks the process. He marks Sora with an X so that he can easily be followed, and after Sora unlocks the 7th keyhole (Which returns him to the real world), instead of returning to the real world at the place he entered the dream world, he returns to the real world at the world of the organization. At that point, Sora is in the real world. Xehanort and Braig torment Sora by putting him back to sleep, and giving him visions of his other selves to shake his resolve. When Sora is still as determined as ever, Xemnas fights him, and even though Sora wins, he's too exhausted, and succumbs to darkness.

At this point, his heart should have been lost to it completely, but Ventus shields Sora's heart, keeping him safe. But Sora's heart still becomes locked in sleep.

Riku on the other hand spends the majority of the game not in the sleeping worlds, but in Sora's dreams (Which is why when Sora wakes up, Riku sleeps, and vice versa). After the battle with Ansem, Riku escapes Soras dreams, and enters the real world at the World that Never Was.

But doesn't Riku/Sora use dream eaters in one of the final fights? How does that work if he's in the real world?

Yes they do. And I have no fucking idea how that is.

Riku could still use his Dream Eater powers as long as Sora was still asleep, which he was during the final battle.

Frankly, I think Re:CoM is the worse game. Yeah, the cutscenes are pretty nice, but any problems you had with the GBA version are exacerbated in Re:CoM. The stages you have battles on are much bigger in scale with more vertical dimension, so you're probably going to be missing attacks (and thus wasting cards) a lot more often.
