Because they forsaken Halo first.

>Have all this good lore and cool alien races
>Never use any of it
>Have a season pass
>For the first 2 shitty DLCs rather than the DLCs that change the entire game
>Make an FPS MMORPG
>Classes don't feel unique enough
>THE FUCKING LOOT SYSTEM
>Multiplayer is ass
>Have only one (1) vehicle you can control

Destiny was a disappointment all around.

Confirmed for having never played Destiny.

TTK launch was the highlight of the game.

Confirmed for not knowing what reasoning behind the game's disappointment is.

Plus the AI had less personality than Marathon's or Halo's, and the MMO mission structure is trash.

I have played Destiny from Vanilla to Dark Below, true, but first impressions are everything for me and it was so shit.

The ONLY redeemable thing I could say from what I played is that Raids were nice.

Played the shit out of it and mostly agree. More vehicles would've been nice. There was actually 3 useable types but 2 were only in a few areas/missions.
The season pass shit was silly but still saved 10 bucks on the 2 DLCs so it's whatever. The fact the last 2 were like $40 each is more bullshit than anything else.
Classes were fine, each had a good use but Nightstalker, defender and (before nightfall changes) sunsinger were the obvious best for PvE.
I never had a problem with the loot system though. It was pretty harsh on launch but they switched it up pretty quick, and you weren't disadvantaged for having that one light level less for a couple months.

Activision

It's a bad ending universe we live in

>Bungie abandons halo
>Gives it to a shitty developer that kills halo
>Goes on to make an even shittier franchise

No one won.

They could've at least used the ship and have some sort of space battle system on your way to the planets to give a reason for ships existing. I don't know, something.

>Multiplayer that consists of magic and shit.
You have reasoning for thinking the multiplayer is bad. With another game, I can at least say that death was totally my fault instead of getting killed by a bunch of supers.

Its weird that BUNGIE of all people couldn't design good vehicles for Destiny. Part of that was all the "big" maps for vehicles were shit.

The loot system was shit because it was random even for all strike bosses. I wanted/expected specific loot to drop from specific bosses, but instead we got RNG engrams. They added a handful of unique items in TTK strikes, but I never played Rise of Iron to see if they expanded on that.

>raids were the only well designed part
>No LFG
>Reused assets up the bum
>Microtransactions
>Multiplayer was 50% luck based
>Classes all played almost identical

How to fix classes:
>Actually give stats that mean a damn thing.
>Instead of "Grenade, Melee, Super" variation, have some unique things for the first two then have the super stay the same
>Some unique class weapons would be nice.

As for fixing certain sub classes I have no idea.

make another marathon, faggots

Raids were the only good and cool thing about destiny. I got nearly everything that was cool in the Vault of Glass in one run, meanwhile others got shit on with the stupid as shit rng.

If you want a better Destiny, play Warframe.

Because people with money are buying it.

Capitalism ho!

What? Everything he said is spot on

Destiny 2 looks pretty slick with uncapped fps

Confirmed for stockholm syndrome.
You need help, user.

Looks more of the same. It lacks satisfying adventure like Marathon or Halo had. They should go back to just making a linear co-op FPS and drop this loot MMO shit because it ruins all possible atmosphere.

>Playing fps on PC.
Ew. Seriously, I like PC but FPS has always been better with a controller.

Class weapons is a bad idea, but its insane to me that they are reusing the grenade/melee abilities from the first game. Every single one of them. They did add a new ability that is unique for the classes, but as a result it doesn't matter what subclass your in its just 2 options.

They'll never do that because their entire playerbase consists of people that get hooked on shallow loot based games

>these are the same people who wrote cortana
>THESE ARE THE SAME FUCKING PEOPLE WHO WROTE DURANDAL
I hate that stupid fucking thing.

Bungie is just a corporate trademark. Video games are made by people, and most of the people who worked on Halo are not currently employed by Bungie. Also, Jason Jones is unhinged.

Destiny was a pretty solid game in the end. Not what it should have been, but something to build upon.

Destiny 2, however, is rapidly revealing itself to be shit.

>overall slowing down of the game to appease casuals/pander to the E SPORTS crowd
>2 subclasses per class
>removing perk customization completely, pre-set builds per subclass
>taking a Brawl approach and removing community tech as opposed to embracing it as part of the design, removing Titan skating/Warlock surfing
>no more 6v6 for casual fun, everything is 4v4
>no fucking rumble
>removed private matches, dubious promises about releasing them, maybe it won't take three years this time
>STILL no ranked/social playlists in spite of trying to be more ESPORTS

I'm a huge Destinyfag and the blows just keep coming day after day. It seriously feels like they're making the game for the people who didn't like Destiny as opposed instead of for the people who actually stuck with the game through the good and bad. I'm still holding out hope and maybe PVE will be good, but what they've shown so far doesn't look like they're touching on the interesting lore in a way that doesn't suck.

Don't make a mistake user. Those people have left Bungie long time ago, the Bungie you knew no longer exists.

What a shame, you could tell that they still were able to make good games when Reach was published.

Just a reminder anyone in this thread criticizing Destiny is toxic and entitled.

I meant like enemy behavior, but you are still 100% right, Ghost is utter crap compared to them.

They did. The loot from the strike bosses was actually some of the most desirable in the game as well, but you just had basically no chance at getting a good roll because of how many shit perks were in the pool.

...worse yet, people bitched that they couldn't get items, so they added a key system that made sure you got the drop but you had to grind the keys first. Completely removed the ways people had discovered to farm the items to appease dumb casuals.

>>>overall slowing down of the game to appease casuals/pander to the E SPORTS crowd

As if Destiny could get any more casual. Please user

>Also, Jason Jones is unhinged.
What?

He's literally the only founder that's left in the company. He's mentally deranged.

Why couldn't they have some enemy weapons to be part of your arsenal?

I want to use the Cabal shield and it using heavy ammo to soak damage before breaking.

>Set builds
>Removing the one thing that made Titans good
Jesus Christ it sounds even worse

100% is though. The skill ceiling for Destiny existed in the movement tech and the ability to play fast. They're trying to force more primary gun fights, which is a good thing for the game, but they've nearly completely removed that element of the game.

..although they've also removed 1 bang sticky grenades with INSANE tracking/magnetism that come up every 20ish seconds with max Discipline, so that's good. In doing so though, they've removed the Intellect/Strength/Discipline system, leading to even less build variety in PVE.

But it's made by Bungie, the guys who made Halo.
My money on Halo was shit from the beginning.

People who will defend, buy and play destiny 2 are everything wrong with this industry

Keep in mind, there's not many original Bungie workers in the company as they used to.

Not shit, but probably overhyped/rated for what it was, a simple yet coherent FPS with a (good) sci-fi background.

Don't care.

Went AWOL during the development of Halo 3 and the rest of his team was forced to work without him. When he came back they told him to start working on the next IP, which turned out to be Destiny.

He fired Marty O'Donnell because he was jealous of his popularity. He wasn't happy with Joe Staten's script for Destiny and started over in a lot of places, which is why the story was a mess and there was so much cut content.

It was only slightly overrated. Overall it deserved the praise it got. Journalists had less influence then, it was a different time.

>but tank characters shouldn't be fast even though Hunters are much quicker in literally any situation that isn't a pure straight line
>who cares that you have to spec max armor to have any difference in time to kill and Warlocks can do it by throwing on a Helmet!

I'm so pissed they gave into those people. I'll admit I'm SUPER biased because Titan Skating is a major reason I put as many hours into Destiny as I did and Rumble was my favorite playlist(Destiny 2 is specifically targeting me), but I genuinely feel like the game is not shaping up to be what people wanted it to be.

Again, holding out hope, but it just seems a lot more dull and super safe. They're trying to make the game easier for them to balance which I can understand, but they're losing a lot of the things that actually made the game unique in the process. Not every game has to be a competitive E-Sport title. Things can be a little unhinged and fun.

Fucking this. Lyin-ass devs.

Awww, no one gave this poor little user his (You)
Here you gonna little fella.

Destiny's PvP has far bigger issues holding it back than whether or not titan skating and stickies will be in the game

The community for this game by far is the worst, most smug, most head up their own asses who refuse to admit this game and Bungie have problems community that I stopped playing because I didn't want to support this shit anymore. Every time there is a post on facebook or youtube about this game and someone says legit criticism you get hundreds of mongrel Latinos and white teenagers who work at McDonalds calling you spoiled and entitled for criticizing the game and saying Bungie owes you nothing. Fuck that they deserve this shit game.

That was HIS fault? Jesus christ I used to love that guy.

Warframe's shooting feels like utter shit though. Say what you want about destiny, the shooting feels incredibly satisfying. I occasionally boot the game just to walk around and shoot things. They did fuck everything else up though.

They honestly should have just stuck to the generic formula of Tank, DPS and Support for their first time designing an MMORPG.

I feel so pissed when my Titan has less health than a faggy Warlock at the same level.

Holy shit

Can I get a source, though? I'd like to not talk out of my own ass.

Source. The part about Marty sounds very hard to believe.

>Awww
Already lost interest.

Some Kotaku article. Bungie higher ups didn't like the fact that the game progressed from planet to planet in a linear order and DELETED FUCKING EVERYTHING for no reason instead of working around it.

Original story sounds so much better.

Nah man, Warlocks get everything because that's what everyone at Bungie plays.

>Destiny was supposed to had godlike lore
>gets reduced to grimoire cards
>while poorly implemented they still shed a lot of light on everything
>Destiny 2 rolls around
>WHAT? GRIMOIRES? NO ONE READ THOSE LOL
>YOU GET EPIC PRE-RENDERED CINEMATICS FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH QUIPS FOR BAD@SSES SUCH AS YOURSELVES
>LORE? PSSH WE DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE DARKNESS IS
>AND EXO STRANGER ISNT COMING BACK BECAUSE WE WRAPPED HER STORY UP ALREADY

It's pretty obvious they just want to detach any relation to what Destiny was under the old Bungie team. If Borderlands is Suicide Squad, then Destiny is Guardians of the Galaxy, thats how Bungie wants it to be.

Sauce me now!

as someone who didn't try the game until very recently with the complete version, and as someone who recently played through all the halo games...
This is the best console FPS I've played, and it's going to be amazing when the sequel comes to PC. The gameplay mechanics are near perfect, and the production values are off the charts. If Destiny 2 can pull off solid end game PVP and raids, it will basically be the long awaited replacement to WoW for me.

One of the guys at Kotaku interviewed the head story guy and got him to admit they had no idea what the fuck the darkness is and you won't see that mentioned anymore going forward.

They decided to give in to the PC crowd

Are they really getting rid of the lore?

FUCK! Fallen society pre-whirldwind sounded so good, the Vex and their entire purpose of encoding themselves in the universe was great, Cabal in general were cool and despite my hate for Hive, their lore was also very neat. Not to mention the lore of the old Vanguards, post-collapse human society and individual guardian stories questioning the Traveller. Oh, and Rasputin being the one that shot the Traveller.

>There's no more grimoire
>They're not doing anything with the Exo Stranger
Fuck you

Yeah, I have no trust in what they've shown so far. Rather than dig into all the cool things the grimoire had, they're just throwing it all out of bringing it into the game in a hamfisted way.

It's so sad. You can tell the original universe they created had so much nuance to it and a lot of thought put into everything. I might have Stockholm Syndrome because of how much time I've been into the game, but it really might have been the "Star Wars for video games" thing they set out to achieve.

...

>user has different opinion
>OMG! Take all my (You)
Get out of here. This a destiny discussion thread, not a shitposting thread.

>2 subclasses per class
They aren't launching with 3 element subclasses? There is no reason to take one out, even if its to revamp it into a new super. Just add a new fucking element in TTK-2
Everything else is PVP which was always shit

I knew Destiny 2 wasn't going to be the leap it needed when they very lightly changed/added to the classes. How do they just keep all the grenade and melee abilities, without adding new ones?

Can you trade equipment?

Is the drop system still a random dart on a board?

From a year before O'Donnell's firing:

>"One of the things that I think really gets [Bungie co-founder] Jason Jones's goat sometimes is that there is still one person who can make a contribution that's outsized, and that's Marty O'Donnell," Chris Butcher tells us. "There's only one composer."

polygon.com/features/2013/1/24/3908184/heart-of-bungie-destiny-jason-jones-marty-odonnell-halo

>In the summer of 2013, just over a year before Destiny came out, the story got a full reboot, according to six people who were there. Bungie ditched everything Joe Staten and his team had written, reworking Destiny’s entire structure as they scrapped plot threads, overhauled characters, and rewrote most of the dialogue. The decision was made against Staten’s wishes, sources say. Destiny project lead Jason Jones and the rest of senior leadership were unhappy with the writing team’s supercut, and their reaction was to scrap it all.

kotaku.com/the-messy-true-story-behind-the-making-of-destiny-1737556731

I never said the Bungie employees stayed at 343i. Just saying they all left doing their own stuff.

Halo5 is the greatest game of the series though.

LMAO

The original crew who made Bungie good have all either left the company or been fired.

Activision performed a corporate takeover, on top of microsoft already getting some of their executive psychopaths into the company. Bungie's a walking corpse.

They might've survived signing up for one more Halo game as an independent studio before striking out on their own for a publisher - there would've been more publisher options available then. But too late now. RIP Bungie

I remember first playing destiny and seeing the large vanguard table I assume more classes and this vanguard leaders would be patched in. Lol how delusional I was.

Holy shit what the fuck

No.

Yes.

>one of the biggest complaints about Destiny was having to go onto a website just to read the lore in order to get an idea of what the story was and even then it was pretty vague
>Destiny 2 will no longer have a grimoire, but have the lore ingame in its own tab, tell an actual story with less vagueness like "The Darkness" and the exo stranger, plus have scannables like TTK which give background information to what's going on in the world
>MUH GRIMOIRE AND TERRIBLY WRITTEN CHARACTER
Two of the worst things about the narrative of Destiny are gone and things that the community liked from Destiny, like the interactions with Cayde-6 and the Vanguard, are being expanded on, but people want to latch onto the old shit.

I hated the game but loved the lore. I want to read all of the lore but I have to play the fucking game to do that.
It sucks.

343i had like... 3 bungie people

Frankie and maybe a couple artists? Basically it was fuck all.

what, all the different sub classes weren't enough?

I don't get it, I wasn't even much of a }Bungie Halo fan at all, but really, you're hard pressed to find a better or at least more unique shooter out there, and there's still plenty of subclass customization and shit. Did people hate the PvP that much?

Yes. I agree that Halo 5's FORGE is amazing and multiplayer was rather good, the campaign of the game is very awful. The concept and marketing of the story was great though.

>He thinks the Grimoire lore will be properly implemented in the game
>He thinks the stuff with Cayde will be anything resembling substantial

>People liked Cayde-6
He was annoying from the start. Also, the darkness was getting unraveled by the time of The Taken King. We know that the worms are the spawns of it and that is what is infecting the Hive. Now, you can't start unraveling something then abandon it. Same with the Stranger. We never knew who she worked with or for, not to mention that cliff hanger at the end of The Taken King.

Literally every subclass played the same except for grenades and supers.

This is an artificial way to pad out a game that has no content.

>Activision performed a corporate takeover
This, but not yet. I guarantee Bungie will be a subsidiary of Activision when all this 10-year contract bullshit is "finished"

They were a one hit wonder studio.

The likes of Halo 3 will never be produced again.

Actually yes.

Let's not forget that almost all of the raids were reused assets.

>Did people hate the PvP that much?

People do, for some reason. I've never understood why. It has some severe balance issues, but 90% of people playing casually will never play enough to get frustrated by them. Shooting and movement feels better in Destiny than any other shooter I've ever played.

Are you even aware of Bungie's history pre-2000? They were exclusively computer games, and a good one at that. That's why Microsoft bought the company.

Classes felt unique every few minutes when your super was up. They reused grenades and melee is fucking melee. I'd rather them drop the subclass concept and just have a bunch of classes so they can feel unique.

Destiny has okay controls for a Console FPS, but in the end it's got lackluster maps and terribly unbalanced weapons.

halo 3 wasn't even that great, the shooting in it sucks compared to destiny. halo 2 had a more interesting story and campaign, was more innovative with online, and wasn't a floaty mess.

I quit when the Thorn was at its' peak.

>things that the community liked from Destiny are being expanded on
The community is literally deranged

Properly implemented? The grimoire entries are nice little bits of fiction, but that's all they are. You could literally just copy and paste them into the game and there wouldn't be a difference. I'd much rather have actual quests and stories that expand the game than having to read about all the cool stuff other people did that haven't even shown up in the game. Looking at you Saint-14. The fact that they have actual questlines for each of the Vanguard already shows that it will be much more substantial than anything on release Destiny. TTK showed a little bit of Cayde and Eris and the community loved it. Hopefully they can keep the ball rolling and at least deliver a workable story.

The campaign has been shit since 2 so what.

It doesn't really prove that's why he's fired, but it does raise the question of what the hell Jason's problem was. I don't get it. He seemed like a cool guy when he was younger.
