>Splatoon sold more than WW HD, TP HD, and Botw Wii U combined
Zelda hasn't been the third most popular IP for a LOOOOONG time.
Smash, mario kart, pokemon, basic mario games all shit on it on the regular.
Why has it been so successful?
animal crossing is 3rd
Everything about it is unique.
It's definitely a bigger IP for them than zelda.
The last 3/4 main animal crossing games outsold almost every zelda game, and two of those DID outsell them all.
I don't understand the appeal to Splatoon. The artstyle is nice and unique I guess, but the gameplay is really boring. Though there are far more popular games that I don't see the appeal in either, like Skyrim, so whatever.
Because it's awesome. On a dead finished system Wii u as a new ip. Did absolutely amazing. Also portable splatoon is gonna be insane popular
I honestly don't believe you when you call the gameplay boring.
>Also portable splatoon is gonna be insane popular
Not with portable and reliable online not being a thing.
The game sucks and is babies first casual shooter. Fuck off.
Local multiplayer is actually a thing for the game now, and salmon run works well with even 2 players
This is a Splatoon thread, not Call of Duty. You're confused.
Will splatoon 2 outsell BoTW? I think it will pretty easily. Not sure if it will top the new mario though.
Yeah, Zelda is an important pillar of Nintendo but its status as one of the big three is basically honorary. Like Wonder Woman in DC's Trinity. Though I guess that analogy doesn't work as well after her movie.
Mario Kart and Mario are the same fucking IP, dipshit
You can count the amount of times people will have a random, full, pick up games of splatoon with ample players on one hand.
It's pretty much guaranteed for Japan.
Don't know about you user, but just about every business and general area aside from maybe a fucking park here has free wifi.
It's not even one of the big 5.
Tell that to nintendo's investors.
got my pre-order already
Or, I don't know, you could make some friends user
i think you mistook splatoon for arms my friend
>Free wifi
>Reliable
Pick one.
Also, if you are going to the park to sit there and play splatoon, why are you at the park? You'd have a better experience at home.
Based Aonuma really left his mark on Zelda, huh?
>Hey guys, lets meet up outside to play splatoon on phone sized screens rather than just playing right now while we are all at home.
I know some places with decent free wifi. Not all businesses are skimpy about it.
There might have been a chance of that being the case but Spla2 is going to sell significantly less than it could have if Nintendo were willing to actually ship out more Switches.
No way arms can do it. Gameplay to shallow
Splatoon is perfect
splatoon would be cool if it had 3d platformer movement ontop of what it does already. As it is now I don't think I could ever play it
lol ikr user why would you ever meet your friends irl when you can just message them online
>if Nintendo were willing to actually ship out more Switches.
It's not their fault they have to fight Apple for parts.
...
Sounds like PR bullshit to me.
There's hanging out with your friends, then there's hanging out with your friends to do something in worse quality in a more inconvenient manner than you all can do at home, together.
Let alone expecting people to bring $2400 of combined equipment altogether just to play a game that way.
Why would they hold back production on their main console? SHit, they even had to employ air freight shipping and that's super expensive. They were blindsighted by demand + their own conservative estimates + production problems due to other companies needing those same parts but are much more higher priority (like, again, Apple)
>They were blindsighted by demand + their own conservative estimates
The first thirty times they did this lead me to believe that a lot of it is intentional.
they've been doing to same thing since the 80s, and actually having managed a store where we had to talk to nintendo about console shipments and seeing how frequently they lie to use about shipments doesn't change my mind.
>When are we getting those wiis?
>You are going to get 25 units by wednesday
>They ship us 3 of them by saturday.
>repeat again and again and again.
It's called artificial scarcity, and it's not the first time Nintendo has done it either.
The 80s were a different time. They've gone through multiple CEOs and culture/business/market changes.
Oh, yeah, sure, this was only a thing in the 80s.
Gimme a fuckin' break.
yet they're still doing the same shit
Nintendo is retarded and made the new co-op mode only freely playable locally - it can only be played online during special events. That's one way of forcing it I guess.
That evil fresh air wins this time.
>number 3
B-b-but what about me g-guys??
>remake
>remake
>was more marketed towards the switch than the wii u
I love you but you never sold well enough to be that popular.
But whats the real reason?
Mario Kart is a derivative IP from Super Mario the way Mario derived from Donkey Kong. At this point it's its own separate IP. Or do you think Super Mario Bros is a Donkey Kong game?
And what's Nintendo supposed to be gaining by selling hundreds of thousands less consoles?
I definitely see Splatoon getting bigger in Japan now that it's not on a dead system, but in the West, I dunno what potential Splatoon has since there are so many choices in shooters over here.
>The 80s were a different time.
They never stopped doing it.
I directly described what it was like getting product from them during the wii. They build expectation of stock, which retailers pass on to customers, then shortship creating a frenzy.
A brand image of your product being the hottest shit that flies off the shelves is an insanely powerful marketing tool, and that image of desirability sustains well past when you return stock flow to regular levels.
I'd rather go to my friends house and play splatoon on the tablet than have to use a phone or other device just to talk to them
>but the gameplay is really boring
the basic gameplay loop is legitimately the best thing nintendo has made since mario's movements in mario 64
>salmon run is a limited, timed event with online play
This
Because its a new genre that Nintendo hasn't had a real series for in a while, and with characters that are likable and appealing.
Honestly, Mario + Rabbids is looking to head in this direction as well, a new genre that Nintendo really hasn't been keeping up with. I fully expect it to sell great, and probably get a sequel.
squid is fine too
>than have to use a phone or other device just to talk to them
Discord.
Sucks nintendo totally fucked you guys by being 18 years behind on online features.
I´m sure normies will notice nintendo with this INSANE marketing tool.....
Someones gotta think of the children
They do, ergo all the
>OMG SWITCH IS SO HARD TO FIND WHERE CAN I FIND A SWITCH THE NEWS SAID SWITCHES ARE SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE OMG!
