AlphaDream did nothing wrong.
AlphaDream did nothing wrong
...
Yuck, why does it look so bad?
Desu desu
Kinda sucks that they stuck with the newer designs for some of the enemies. The Purple Leaf Koopa is especially dumb. I know it's because they already have sprites for those designs in this style, but it takes away some of the style that the original game had.
Still looks greats overall though.
Cautiously optimistic that they don't change anything story related too drastically. The new sprites take some of the charm away but that happens when changing art direction.
Still gonna play the fuck out of it though. I remember all the story beats perfectly.
For the last time.
Dotting is expensive and requires talent that is becoming harder and harder to find.
I'm more worried they're gonna change the combat to fit in with the newer games
aka
>use special attacks or enemies take way too long to kill
SSS was great because you never needed to use the Bros Attacks
they usually didn't do that much more damage compared to normal attacks
but compare that to Dream Team or Paper Jam, where you basically need to use the special moves since every enemy and boss has way too much bloated hp and using normal moves is gonna make the fights last forever
They sucked all the life out of it...
What is dotting?
Nah it sucks
B-R-O
I forgot about the 'Border Jump' minigame, its pretty hilarious.
Hoping they don't change the name or anything and give it a few new levels.
Fleshing out some of the minigames would be cool
That would suck. Then again, my old strategy was to save BP and spam the bosses with Bros Moves, so maybe it won't feel any different for me.
I don't really see the big deal. Remake looks fine. Not quite as good as the original, but they went with the new artstyle.
Not like I'm going to get it anyway.
I would prefer the current style if they just had outlines HNGGGGG
how the FUCK could you think the photo with fawful looks better in the original??
>being surprised that the remake looks different
I do kinda dislike how watered down some of the designs are but I'll still play the shit out of this.
I'm more worried about what updated mechanics means.
In Dream Team, the secret boss actually uses something similar to Border Jump as one of its attacks.
The Lakitu redesign disgusts me on a personal level.
Unpopular opinion, but I fucking hated Dream Team and never bothered with secret bosses and stuff.
It was bowser jr right?
It's so boring on the right, they took out so much personality, it's a homogeneous New SMB style, instead of Saga distinct from all the other Mario series, now it looks just like any other.
Even the expressions the characters make are so mild and neutered.
Same with the Metroid 2 remake, it lacks it's own unique identity and style.
Oh well at lest I can play the original forever
>why does it look so bad?
GBA graphics age like milk
At least the original enemies are truthful to the original game. This reminds me of when Sticker Star did the same trash to the Paper Mario series, I hate how the redesigns look, they took the visual personality/styles out of these games.
>What is dotting?
I assume that user means pixelarting. Japan tends to call pixel art by "dot art" or similar terms.
Although really, the reason that Nintendo is using 3D models is probably because it is easier to port them to other platforms and make extra material, from side games to posters, with the same art assets. It's no doubt why so much looks like the same style as New Super Mario Bros: it is probably the same models, just with lower res skins.
Oh gosh why. There was nothing wrong with the first game, there was no need to remake it.
Easier to upres, tweak, reuse in (or from) a NSMB game. 3D artists and animators are more common and cheaper.
It also makes it easier for them to homogenize the artstyle when other contemporary Mario games. Unfortunately.
I think it's a good game but way too long. I felt like snapping my 3DS in half during the tour guide shit.
who else here has superstar saga as their favorite game ever?
goddamn it. Can't nintendo's B teams and C teams treat anything with any damn respect
...
Where is my Tomato Adventure game?
It was Bowser Jr.
To be honest, he's probably the most legitimately fun boss in the game. It's a shame you have to go through an entire boss rush to get to him.
They should have remade SMRPG instead.
>Superstar Saga remake gets leaked
>hype and speculation everywhere
>Superstar Saga remake revealed
>everyone trying their damnedest to poke any kind of petty hole in it and proclaim nintendo is DEAD
hm really makes u ponder
I heard no hype about the remake when it was leaked
most things I heard were people asking why remake it
I get that history revision is Sup Forums's thing, but there were literally dozens of threads after the leak all saying "SO HOW IS NINTENDO GONNA FUCK THIS ONE UP, BROS?"
Not him but I heard mostly hype also, people were really interested in the possibilities of what could be changed, updated and Geno.
Isn't the remake just using more detailed sprites like Dream Team and Paper Jam?
spriters-resource.com
spriters-resource.com
I'd post the spritesheets myself, but Sup Forums keeps saying the images are too big. It's worth noting that they don't look like prerendered 3d sprites or anything
>Alpha Dream remains based
>Nostalgia fags will still find a shitty nitpick
Honestly
In all seriousness this game is a "we have an engine and assets, let's try to make a quick buck" game. I think it's obvious anywhere they can reuse a sprite from Dream Team or Paper Jam they will.
The colors looks much worse on the right.
Looks like a Final Fantasy mobile phone remake.
So far it mostly seems that way, we have seen the Emergency Block come back in the Demonstration though so it's possible more bigger changes could happen.
Even if they are, it's clear that the sprites were generated by using 3D models and then shrinking or "pixelating" them to turn them into sprites. Rather than giving characters amusing and unique animations, as you would with spritework, just using a 3D model means that the characters stay on-model all the time. And it tends to look rather boring, as a result.
Plus, it has that same plastic look that most of NSMB did, which certainly isn't going to be popular with people who didn't like NSMB.
>"we have an engine and assets, let's try to make a quick buck" game
Planet Robobot, Ultra Sun and Moon, Mario Sports Superstars, Super Mystery Dungeon, Mario Party Star Rush, Happy Home Designer, Tri Force Heroes, and Fire Emblem Echoes didn't already clue you in? Even Paper Jam could be classified as that, all the Paper Mario shit is "what can we reuse from Sticker Star?".
Truly we are in the endgame of the 3DS' lifecycle.
new looks better across the board.
you can still play the old games instead of bitching about shit that isn't important
It's nowhere near that bad, don't overblow it.
see
and tell me that looks better
Is Miyamoto the cause of this?
but why remake it at all?
the old game is fine as it is, damn near perfect actually
plus, the old one if available on the eshop for less than $10, whereas the remake is likely gonna be $30-$40
>people still believe this
>3D
The 3DS was a mistake.
I don't know. Despite the higher quality shading, they still look like they were drawn by somebody. They still look plenty expressive and utilize techniques like animation smearing. If they were based on preexisting 3d models, it's clear that were only used as reference or drawn over and heavily touched up.

>I-IT'S 3D
>they're sprites
>THEY JUST BASED IT OFF OF A 3D MOD-
>they're sprites
>OK BUT THEY LOOK LIKE NEW SUPER MAR-
>they're sprites
>Edit sprites you already have because it's just a cheap remake anyways
They're still doing all new sprites for the shit that's not based on any generic Mario enemy that's been in the past few M&L games
>took time to make sure Luigi's L was always facing the right way and that Mario's left arm was extended while jumping
>for sixteen directions of sprites and even more for the 2D sections
Holy shit.
>Likewise with Mario, he always raises his left arm when jumping.
I wasn't prepared to have an unironic "really makes you think" moment today.
Actually this game doesn't have 3D. It might as well not be on the 3DS.
Dream Team has a lot of new species, and characters. One of the main villains was a totally new person in general with Antasma.
>3D
disgusting
why does nintendo hate 2D?
Just the fact that they can legitimately fool cunts like this for years into thinking that it's 3D just goes to show how based they are with sprites.
Dream Team wasn't a quick remake at the end of the console's life
Didn't it take way longer than they expected because of all the spritework? No wonder they're milking that shit and reuising it as much as possible before they have to make higher res sprites for the Switch
>They're the reason the Paper Mario series turned into a bullshit action adventure game because 2 Mario RPG series is redundant to Nintendo
>AlphaDream did nothing wrong
So the Mario and Luigi games are better, is that so wrong?
>it's AlphaDream's fault they made a better Mario RPG series
Why is it Alpha Dream's fault that Nintendo are dumb asses?
Don't you dare lump Robobot in with those mediocre cash grabs.
Robobot was actually good after the trash that was RtDL and TD
>Furthermore, the amount of work increased substantially when AlphaDream decided not to simply mirror the sprites in the game, and to create unique mirrored sprites for both Mario and Luigi
>“On the Nintendo DS, there were about eight directions, but for the Nintendo 3DS, we made pixel art for 16 directions,”
Can't wait to see what the bros. attacks look like. My top 3 games of all time, I really hope they don't fuck this up.
If you do your job well enough people will think you don't do anything at all.
Remember how Wario, Samus, and Olimar were supposed to cameo in the original but got cut for some reason? (They were going to be taste testers for the coffee bean side quests, with sprites completely done.)
I wonder if they'll make it in the remake.
>You will never be such a good pixelartist that you have mentally challenged numale Sup Forumsirgins who think they know about pixel art type that your pixel art is from a 3D model
Why LIVE?!
...
Make them boss fights
>the koopas

JUSTE
Berumondo
>Same with the Metroid 2 remake, it lacks it's own unique identity and style.
The fuck are you on about? Are you saying a monochrome 8bit game somehow looks better than its remake?
Jesus it's just like the fags who bitched about Ocarina of Time 3D.
Why do you always post shitty off-topic fapbait images with your posts?
Who's the froggo?
>link is just a bunch four swords sprites
talk about lazy
because he wants people to pay attention to him but has nothing interesting to say so he just posts lewd
Because tits.
How do I explain how this makes me feel...
People of Sup Forums, do you remember the world of Super Mario RPG? One of the fun things about it was how some of the enemies looked nothing like you normally see in 2D Mario games right? Same for Paper Mario, some of the enemies were original and creative designs that were interesting and unique. Both games made you feel like you were Mario, exploring these alien worlds that felt different from the typical mushroom kingdom. Super Star Saga also invoked this feeling. Like with a weird colored turtle that would be on all fours, and had a sprout growing out of its head, only now its...just a koopa troopa with a sprout. Or a weird cloud creature covered in vines, oh wait, that was just a Lakitu covered in vines.
I guess these differences don't matter to most people and that's fine. But to me, they feel wrong. Not unforgivable, or terrible, or game ruining, just, wrong. They feel confirmative, like when someone told somebody that Paper Mario should only have characters from 2D Mario games in it.
He was the superboss and was actually a really good boss.
no, this actually looks good
Fucking lifeless 3D renders really ruin everything, now i get what /vp/ autists mean, it simply doesn't fit these kind of games.
>Like with a weird colored turtle that would be on all fours, and had a sprout growing out of its head, only now its...just a koopa troopa with a sprout
Why are you acting like quadrupedal koopa troopas are something weird and unique to Superstar Saga?
>this maymay is going to spread now
it looks better.
Probably hasn't played a game older than Super Mario Sunshine
Even galaxy had them
Yeah, butt fellas:
What about the Jellyfish Sisters?
Honestly he has a point, how often do you see koopas on all fours?
Hell honestly I cant even think of any since the turtles in Mario Bros arent actually koopas
Beanbean land had a lot of slightly off and unique enemies and the remake is ruining that
not enough porn
I need more for research
>how often do you see koopas on all fours?
Pretty often, mostly but not exclusively in older games.
No, I mean.
What do they look like in the new version?
Also, I wish Nintendo would do a new advertisement with the kids from the original SuperStar Saga commercial.
>people are legitimately saying the remake looks worse
Take off your rose-tinted glasses for once
>I can see the pixels so therefore it's bad
You might as well say you're underaged if you can't appreciate sprite work. Some stuff does look better, bowser in particular looks really chunky in the old game for some reason, but there are certainly many sprites from the old game that look much better since they show more expression, look wackier (Something very fitting for this game) and are cleaner due to the simplistic style.
There's overall less detail in the originals and things look more washed out. The new sprites are plenty wacky.
You might as well say you're a fucking nostalgia faggot full of bullshit and wearing a double layer of rose tint. The remake looks better. But idiots like you literally say the same shit with any remake.
