Watched like 5 videos of him, and I thought they were mediocre at best. Is he actually garbage, or am I missing something?

I prefer his older stuff. When he upped the production values the comedic value fell to shit.
...
how sad that you rely on Sup Forums to form your opinion instead of having your own independent thought
This. I liked the lower production stuff. It was much more consistent in terms of uploads and humor.
Then he let his fame get to his head and it all went downhill from there.
I'd agree if he watched only one or two videos. But, if OP is sincere, and was underwelmed by 5 videos, I don't see the problem with him asking if he's just doing it wrong or missing the good stuff. Because, despite not making shit for 6 months, Jontron is still a well known youtuber.
I'd recommend stuff at least 2 years old. There is a certain energy that drained away after the production started getting better.
>Inquiring on Sup Forums = forming your opinion based on Sup Forums
Yeah ok.
I find his videos entertaining, but his politics are interesting considering he would be lynched by like-minded individuals.
He's just impressionable, like most with his beliefs. :^)
I find it funny how hard he stayed away from the GG stuff, but later started talking to guys like Sargon (who was an embarrassment to GG more often than not), and now he's had a political revolution in his heart... 2 years after everyone else did. I'm amazed he went so gung ho about it that he agreed to a debate of some sort and apparently embarrassed the shit out of himself.
He's done some stupid shit recently and hasn't made any content in months... but I hope he figures himself out eventually.
Did you watch takeshi's challenge? I liked that one.
Kids, bro
I find him intensely obnoxious but kids these days don't have friends
>valuing Sup Forums's opinion
I liked his pre-2015 videos.
I dont really care about the Sup Forums stuff he said tho
Ever since he got a set everything went to shit and only uploaded every six months.
>claimed to be busy with Starcade
>hasn't done jack shit since then
He didn't actually even lose subscribers so there's that, no matter what the "journalists" and other faggots may try to make you believe.
The way I view JonTron is that he disagreed with the hyper SJW movements that exist on the internet (that I think any rational person should) but fell into the information circles of the polar opposite of that movement. I see myself as fairly center-left, but my biggest issue with more leftist/progressive movements is their kneejerk reaction to shun anyone who uses the wrong nomenclature to their particular sub-culture. Look at that very liberal professor at Evergreen College, very much an ally of the 'progressive-left' but he pissed off a fringe group so now he is literally Hitler.

I think increase in production values did him more harm than good. No one cares about that shit when it fucks with the schedule so much. He basically produced some good memes that stuck with people.
Also, tragic backstory every character needs.
I always see it as he rejected one cult, and started listening intently to another. I get why he hates the SJW fanatics, since they picked on him a lot before, but it really feels like he just has personal issues and guys like Sargon fed off that to get him to believe things that make him look crazy. People defend his comments about immigration because his parents were immigrants (which, to me, just proves people are too prone to using identity politics as an escape hatch), but it's possible he has some deep seated issues with his parents. Stuff that I don't think I, or others, would have ever known about at all if he hadn't gone so nuts about shouting his half formed beliefs everywhere.
>janky Star Wars Kinect video was better than any single part of Starcade
His videos changed when he left California for New York, although I think that the first few videos he released from NY before Starcade where some of his best videos, and have some great moments in them. One of the reasons that he changed how he produced when he moved was that Game Grumps was a lot easier to make and it proved to be quite popular, although eventually due to friction with Egoraptor and pressure from the fans to continue JonTron he moved across America.
Starcade was a mixed bag, because it had some quite good moments in it, although due to JonTron not being in complete control of the production, some parts including the first few episodes were quite bad by comparison.
Starcade and other corporate involvement led the JonTron show into more money than ever, which led to the construction of the new Seinfeld-esque set. This also included better cameras, lighting and props on a professional level. I would say that these more recent episodes are some of the worst JonTrons that have ever been produced. Sadly JonTron has become too successful for his own good, so maybe the recent political drama will cause him to scale back production.
>but it's possible he has some deep seated issues with his parents
You think?
Hercules was the last good video
I think it's a classic problem every content producer finds himself in - you want to grow and do more better thing, but audience that got you there in the first place doesn't because they like you what you've been doing so far. You can visibly tell personalities like AVGN have in particular been hit hard with this and have to continue with their star show even though they would most likely be doing something else.
Which videos? Because not all of them are winners.
>Doug Walker does it out of spite because he legitimately lacks the talent to do anything else
>meanwhile still forces his shitty writing/directing ability into everything
This is how you create a self hating immigrant.
>valuing opinions
if I'm gonna spout some completely baseless conjecture, when did he break up with that girl... Nicole? she was a real SJW type, and being broken up with has a way of turning vulnerable dudes on to radical shit like what he half-understands-but-vocally-supports
personally though, the way that whole... genre of alt-right internet politics tends to prey on insecure, vulnerable people is part of what I find most despicable about it. I was a lonely, friendless, angry, discontent loser kid on Sup Forums when I was 15, I genuinely worry for how I might have turned out if that was now, and not some 7-8 years ago.
Why exactly is it that flaunting your right wing views counts as drama, yet you can say all the left wing extremist stuff you want without a second thought or fear of repercussion?
>caring enough about ecelebs to follow their lives so intensely
i didn't even know who this guy earllier this year before the SJW cartel went after him for comments he made. maybe he learned his lesson to never shill >for free for shit furfag games made by SJW furries who'll throw him aside after they've got their internet welfare check for dangling nostalgiabait.
>watch a few episodes
>not that funny, lots of recycled gags
>Sup Forums tells me his new videos aren't as sincere and too heavily scripted
>watch his older videos
>he would LITERALLY insert meme faces everywhere
>still screaming and cutting to his reactions
>he's been using that WACKY BIG BRIGHT BOLD YELLOW TEXT since then
Because victim culture.
It was a different time, user.
Yeah, the thing about the alt-right stuff is that they copy DIRECTLY from the SJW handbook. Except feeding on the "you want to HELP PEOPLE, RIGHT?" to trick people it's "your life is shit because of THESE FUCKERS!". Which for Jontron, who already probably hates (or at least is troubled by) his immigrant parents, "THESE FUCKERS" are immigrants.
I don't know about his break up but, yeah, a bad break up can fuck a person up. I'm glad no one tried to pull me into a politics cult during any my one really bad break up years ago. It's something people need to be wary of.
Sick burn, yo.
power differential, for one. is anyone as genuinely afraid of The Great Trans* Uprising and Cis-Gender-Genocide as they are of actual institutional racism or such?
do you hear "die cis scum" and fear for your life?
I think generally people get too, dare-I-say-triggered at SJW stuff because they think they're all nutjobs, when most of the time it's just hyperbolically-phrased expressions of discontent with systems that do actually cause power-minorities harm. And personally I give them a little leeway in that area because, truly, they're not in danger of being given enough power to hurt anyone. And I don't think they'd do much with that power, if they even had it.
>this sort of shit and Reddit faces
>in fucking 2010
I repeat, fucking 2010.
Don't give me that bullshit, user.
>discontent with systems that do actually cause power-minorities harm
If they weren't holding up people like Mike Brown as martyrs it might look a little less ridiculous.
are SJW's really so sinister though? what is it that people are being "tricked into"? I genuinely don't understand
regardless, the alt-right isn't taking from any SJW handbook, they're really just taking from the neo-nazi handbook. Find a person who has never in their life been given any reason to believe that they aren't worthless, tell them that they deserve to feel proud of themselves (because they're white) and that the reason they feel so worthless is because of not-white people. that's CLASSIC predatory neo-nazi behavior.
also the whole "nature" and "biological imperative" stuff is so creepy, and has very very very direct, obvious parallels to early nazi-party movements that I could speak on more directly if you're interested, but that's another thing I find disturbing.
mike brown probably was a shitty kid, but the circumstances of his death were absolute bullshit on multiple levels. people were right to be upset. and even if that was one case where things were justifiable, there's so many other ones. this Philando Castile stuff really upsets me because he was a legal gun owner who did absolutely everything right in the situation as a legally-armed citizen dealing with police, and he ended up shot to death in front of his daughter. NRA sold him down the river, even. Not that they really care about gun owners as much as gun manufacturers, but that one was particularly upsetting.
