Do you like my emergency backup generator?

do you like my emergency backup generator?

rimworld thread

Just got Rimworld, and I love the game to death, but I fucking suck at it. Anybody got good Rimworld greentext?

all my bases so far have died

Rimjobworld legitimately makes the game better.

what is this an app game?

Why do you keep your batteries inaccessible? And you've got a lot of wasted steel there with how you've wired it up.

Don't build walls out of wood
don't build into mountains, if you absolutely have to make sure there are lots of well-lit large open areas.
spend the resources to create nice bedrooms for your colonists, the pretty much permenant mood bonus far outweighs the materials spend to create the room.
If your pic is your current base, it's really poorly laid out. those sandbags are in a bad position, if there is an attack from the north than your colonists don't have an angle to shoot at them allowing the raider to get close to melee.

>First base since tutorial
>Quinn, Shorty, Tater, and Pupukaka
>Get raided while military suppliers are in
>Think "sweet, I got backup"
>Run in with Quinn and Tater
>Tater starts fuckin shit up with 16 shooting
>Accidentally domes Quinn
>Surviving raider snags Quinn off the ground and leaves
>Pupukaka wounded while in the crossfire of those ruffians and her husband
>Tater tries to tend to Pupu's severe bleeding, but was for naught, because no medicine
>Tater had to watch his wife bleed out in front of him while they were still honeymooning
>Meanwhile Shorty starts harvesting healroot

Good game so far. Didn't think I could get so invested in the lives of prison architect models.

Oh I forgot to mention that the military traders didn't do jack shit to help

relax bro im only like 90 minutes in )) thanks for tips )))))
> lot of wasted steel
true )) built to grow )

Behold, the single shittiest character I've ever seen Rimworld generate.

...

Waiting on Summer Sale but looking forward to it.

I'd worry about making it long enough to warrant that first. Also, cover your component storage with a roof. Otherwise, you're wasting what is arguably the most important resource in the game.

>rimworld
I prefer Oxygen Not Included.

Honestly I pirated an older version of it as a demo.
I'm gonna buy it eventually though because these guys deserve the support and I try to support indie devs more than triple a companies.

I really don't. Maybe ONI will be better, but it's quite dull at the moment.

Didn't realise they added DSP to the game :'D

>Fuel generator without a roof
>batteries in different places
>Not enough space to fix a broken battery
>Roaming Warg
>Digging in mountain
kiddo u aint gonna last

>mountainhome
How are you liking those Insect Hives?

That's quite bad then - Rimworld is already fairly dull at times. A lot of tedium to slog through for the good memorable parts. A lot like dating your mum, honestly.

I doubt it will go on sale. I think Rimworld is in the same boat as Factorio where they won't go on sale till after full release.

Is there a tip for getting settlers quicker or does it just happen?
Why shouldn't I build mountain homes?

Not trying to be dickass, just trying to get into the game and need advice and when I Google it just says shit like "Make sure your rooms are lit up"

People make way too big of a deal with hive infestations. A bit of prep and you'll never have a problem. Heck, in that one there's been three already, and all I need to do is toss a molotov into the wood hallway and the fire takes care of the rest. Sure I can't mine for like a day, but it's really not a problem.

I'm not that user but those things are fucking bullshit. Too many times they spawn right in the middle of 5 colonists; and usually they start a tantrum spiral. Ty needs to update them or balance something.

All the characters have been designed by a certain Kickstarter backer tier
That's why you have 10+ Novelists and Assassins that are only good for shooting and love rain

Nothing wrong with grilled bug meat
I am kidding, bug meat causes debuff

It just kinda happens. If you really want to court more settlers, you need to capture and convert worthwhile ones from raids.

No source but "The dev has said repeatedly that he has no plans on putting Rimworld on sale until at the very least some time after a full release."

They are supposed to be bullshit. If you can't deal with it don't live in mountains

How do you get people cleaning more frequently. My homes are always shit tips and I have to tell them to clean to save their mood. Even when I assign them all to clean as a job...

Manageable if you get on them quickly.

Why is Rimworld so fucking good?

Why can't AAA-devs create something as amazing as one fucking indie-developer?

Why are games so shitty nowadays?

Go under the work tab, then click Manual Priorities. Set one of your guys to have a higher cleaning priority than anything else, and that *should* work.

Disagree.

They're the only thing that threatens an otherwise unassailable fortress with low temperature stabilizing needs, tons of space, and ready internal access to resources. And they're actually quite easy to handle if you know what you're doing.

Mountainbases are fucking bullshit, and frankly should have more to disincentivize them.

I hire one dedicated cleaner slave

you can also left click a character and right click on some dirt and order them to clean, he will continue until your whole home area is clean.

>Why is Rimworld so fucking good?
Because is emphasises mechanics
>Why can't AAA-devs create something as amazing as one fucking indie-developer?
Because AAA development is 95% art asset development, 5% programming and mechanics
>Why are games so shitty nowadays?
Because you touch yourself at night, start nofap today

Cleaning is low priority. You can either manually assign it as a high priority or uncheck everything before it.

You can also "overload" your colonists with work by having too large of growing zones or making them mine all day.

>Left click on char
>right click on dirt
>he cleans the whole home area
>???
>profit

insect hives. If they spawn in a room with a colonist, that colonist is completely fucked. Melee usually excels due in tight and dark areas like bases and megaspiders will fuck anything up in melee.

>Because you touch yourself at night, start nofap today

okay.jpg

I feel some indie games are games that the developer wanted to play while AAA games are games the market thinks wants to play, though a lot of indie games do that too

>wanderer joins
>he's 90 and crippled and lays in bed for 5 years before dying

Is that flamethrower part of a mod?

Oh yeah having insects randomly spawn next to your best craftsmen/doctors/shooters and chopping their fingers off before you can react is exactly the right kind of gameplay feature.

Might just as well have random gas leaks that just plain kill your colonists at random in the mountains.

Ok, so for all you Anons that are legit unsure how to deal with infestations, the trick is not to just make sure your rooms are 'lit up.' If you want to make sure hives don't spawn in the middle of your dormitory, you need to make sure your living spaces are well lit AND that you have a poorly-lit large room far away from the entrance of your base (or from the closest 'unroofed' tile).

In this way, you virtually guarantee the hive spawns where you want it to and where you can deal with it on your own terms.

This user has done that, and it's probably why his base isn't being wrecked by infestations.

>he doesn't create a character inspired by dr. mengele that makes use of these crippled characters by operating on them and torturing them

Haha ok refunding

well then don't fucking build in mountains? you know perfectly well that insect hives are a threat and possibility, you have no one to blame but yourself when they spawn.

see
and stop being a scrub. Mountainbases are frankly OP - they are strictly better than bases made in the open. There is no reason not to make them save not having a mountain on the map to build in.

Damn this whole thread is about insect infestations and I haven't even gotten far enough to see one yet, I keep dying to being dumb

I know it sounds weird, but the thing that bothers me the most is the absence of rape.
The game want to be ultra realistic, but yet, one of the most important thing for humans is not really here.
I understand it would be pointless to put emphasis on the act itself but in a rude world with crazy raiders like Rimworld, do you really think they would just kill and nothing else ?
C'mon.

I got that way doing the sea ice challenge. Before I could build hydroponics I would offer safety to people in order for fresh meat to arrive. I sat in a base feasting on manflesh for a year until I got enough resources.

What would it add?

Honestly, what would it add? How would it make the game more interesting or more compelling in any way?

Honestly, it should be pretty easy to add sexual assault in the game. You mentioned raiders, but I can see colonists doing it too when their mood is down or when they've been rejected a bit too much by Stacy.

...

I'm not normally one to advocate for rape features in a game, but yeah I think it would be interesting if raiders could kidnap and take your people at times if they felt they wouldn't be killed doing it, and you could then try and rescue them within a short time frame to get them back, albeit needing a lot of R&R to get their head back on right and go back to normal.

I want rape and slaves

Just like it's fun and endearing to see characters react to certain situations by giving them a debuff, this is just one of those situations? It's like asking what makes colonist grow relationships add to the game and how that makes it more interesting or compelling.

It's implied when hostages are taken. But you can't market a game to the general population as a rapesimulator. Rapesimulators are even more niche than waifu games.

What difficulty/ai you guys play on and how far have you made it?
>Crash landed
>Some Challenge
>Classic
Made it to winter once and then party wipe within three days from hypothermia because I didn't know how to make clothes at the time.

Also I know the goal is to make caravans and mini colonies all the way to the ship but could instead become a sort of Roman Empire and just conquer the world instead?

I'm actually doing a sea ice challenge right now with the Cthulhu mods, it's pretty spooky to just be minding your own business on the great white expanse then see a couple of deep ones out in the distance saunter slowly towards your base.

I want to be able to inflict injuries to my prisoners in a detailed way, just like in the debug menu where you can inflict every possible injury and wound.

is it worth to update from a16 to a17?
i pirated the game, no bully pls

yeah, mountainbases are far safer than ones in the open, for many many reasons. Infestations are nasty, but only if you don't deal with them properly, or take simple countermeasures like opening up other areas so they are more likely to spawn there.

More tips: They won't spawn in really low temps (so a fridge is perfectly safe if cold enough). Fire in closed spaces will purge them quite easily (throw a molotov into a room with them, close the door, watch it become 2000C).

Or man up and go in and kill them, you can even breed some war animals to help you.

yes but performance is slightly worse

user the game is like 15 bucks, how poor are you?

>Always start with a rich sociopath scientist, a weak male slave and a sexy nudist sexslave
>Always turn my base into an extermination camp for raiders
>Rich guy gets the best room, the slave sleeps on the floor
This game is fun

True realism, I'm not even asking for a scene/animation, just it can be possible like it would totally be in a scenario like this.
At this point, you could also ask what's the point adding entertaining stuff to not get your colonists bored, or why would their mood go down when they're rejected.
And yet, you can keep a prisonner alive to farm his limbs.

You're totally right

>user the game is like 15 bucks
It's $30 where are you finding it for $15?

It would add an emotional aspect.
do you really need this to be explained?

A zombie mod would be pretty neat but they all seem outdated.

The game has literally never been on sale.

That'd be cool, with just a little sentence in their status that would imply a sexual assault. That way it would be doable.

I hear you, and I understand. But in this kind of game I think it can be done in non choking way. I mean, the only game I played that talked about rape was New Vegas, and it's considered like a great game.
I'm not asking for a big scene with begging and all, that would be horrible I know.

nearly 600 days in and starting to run out of things to do/aim for
should I change the difficulty? the whole time I've been running on Randy Random rough, but the raids are way too easy to defeat and the mechanoids only invade in groups of 2 or 3... I have yet to see an insect infestation

>not penning large groups of raider prisoners in a filthy hole of a cell and only feeding them paste from a dispenser

Start again and make a base that doesn't look like ass.

futa

Insects only spawn on "some challenge" or higher. For your first few games play on low difficulty but once you understand the mechanics you should raise it as high as you can stand. And just accept that you'll get fucked hard occasionally.

>its a every infected patience goes berserk and starts beating up every other patience episode

Beat that

Mods are your friend, if you haven't already tried to do any objectives like escape the planet or whatnot.

If the game in general feels too easy, hardcore sk modpack adds in some stuff that'll make it interesting, but make your eyes bleed from frustration from time to time.

I only suggest it since you don't need to get all the individual mods and then figure out the load orders, etc.

Try to be more creative and make something that doesn't look like a Terraria npc tower?
Send out caravans and rule the planet?

>it's a colonist sacrifices themselves to a pack of manhunter squirrels because their husband died in a previous raid episode

Get Hardcore SK

>still no rimushima and redist heat for a17

Build the ship and blast off for some sick credits music

>It's a colonist randomly walks out of your base into a pack of manhunter squirrels for no fucking reason episode

I hate having to restrict every single colonist.

this may be a vague and dumb question but how do i get gud at base designs? everytime i build a base it tends to be ugly, rooms are either too small or too big, inconvenient places for rooms, etc. just look at this mess

Never get past summer, even when everything is working out I forget something.
Is there some sort of StarCraft build order that I haven't been following? How do you guys with good late game setups start your games to guarantee getting at least kind of far?

forgot picture

In the event it does go on sale in like 17 minutes, would it be worth $15 on an impulse buy? I've been looking for a good colony building game for literal years.

Starbound hurt me.

>that mars colony

I think the game is alright if you are into what is offered.
I've played pirated versions of it before and I was never able to really get into it, even with mods.

>sow fields
>put wooden wall around fields
>build workable bedrooms
>build roofed storage area
>build food storage/buther table/stove area
>put table with stools near food storage

You can accomplish this in 2 game days. After you do that build your crafting/defense plans. If your colonists don't get rooms/food/table then you get tantrum spirals.

One of the easiest ways to improve survivability, is getting colonists who aren't completely useless (re-roll them guys with frail/dementia/no voilence).

After that, make yourself some kill boxes lined with traps or turrets and you are pretty much set. (The AI will sometimes tunnel around defenses or siege, but if you leave a literal open path through a wall, they'll take it 90% of the time right into the kill zone).

It's already a good buy for, what is it, $30?
The reviews are overwhelmingly positive on steam, and if don't trust the cesspool that is underage steam curators, then think of it like this, we agree with those children.
It's a good fuckin game.

Is this game from the makers of Prision Architect?

smaller = better
less walking = more time working
for defending killboxes are still king
aesthetics wise its whatever works for you really

No, but the devs requested they use the art style.
