What was your first epic?
I remember this dropping in Scholomance and rolling for it on my Shaman, managed to get it. Wasn't actually super amazing stat wise aside from that stam, but I was just too happy to have an epic and be part of the cool kids.

Had a similar situation happen where a level 50 character helped my level 20 find the right zone to level in. People were so chill back then.
Nathan Kelly
Fucking hell, did everyone who started as an undead wander into the WPL and get raped by bears?
I remember getting into it really deep and then being screwed because the path back was suddenly full of mobs.
Jack Ward
Man I stopped playing a little while before WotLK. My favorite memories of the game are right before BC launched when the players kited some large enemy right into Stormwind. It was a little after I started playing I think I was like level 20 or so. Couldn't enter the city without being murdered by whatever it was constantly, dead players everywhere

Probably because word of mouth was really the only method of information. All you really had was thottbot and even then few people knew about it.
Wow was a confusing game filled with mystery so most people would help out because they remember being confused as fuck too.
Then shit like wowhead, mmo champion and data mining happened. There is no secrets in wow anymore. I don't think Kil'jaden has been defeated yet but the ending cinematic is on youtube.

First time I ever raided on my Pally main after just hitting 70 too, in good old Blade's Edge Mountains. I was kinda surprised I even got it, with a roll over 90 as a pog to boot.
Funny enough, with WotLK I picked up a DK, even got a Rouge to max, and never touched the Pally again.

This, most of my major noob moments happened in Runescape. I was a little more guarded/wise to how I should behave by the time I got to WoW
Josiah Clark
Oh geez, I guess it depends on what you're looking for. Maces have an inherent chance to stun (I seem to remember). I don't recall if rogues ever got melee AP from strength, I think you do but not a lot. I guess I'd pick the mace but it's hard to say.
Adam Morales
>Fast offhand

Yeah I remember that being important too but not which one goes where. Also I think swords can like double attack or something? Every weapon type had something special about it with a low proc rate
Parker Nguyen

Nathaniel Morales
>playing on a private server, cleaing low level dungeons >Rare spawn >Drops one of the tiny chance BoE blues >Freak out >Find out later that the droprate on those has been increased and that the rares are scripted to always spawn
Daniel Reed
You would pick the heavier mainhand because that's what sinister strike would use for its damage, and it made the attack instant.
I think sub or ass. would use daggers only because their mainskill required you to use daggers.
The proc rate shit was so small it was never taken into account.
Lincoln Gomez
Just wanted to say, I've resubbed every xpac since vanilla and binged for a few months each time, and legion makes me happy like vanilla and burning crusade used to. It's jus a great one. I just fucking love WoW, guys.
Alexander Turner
Sub definitely required that you used daggers, nearly every sub move required you to have a dagger in at least main hand IIRC, may have been both hands. I also think that envenom or one hemo required a dagger for 'sin.
Xavier Gomez
>tfw none of this matters now at all Aside from wanting to hit a certain % of one of the secondary stats you just equip whatever the highest level item is without thinking about it. It was a little different at the start of the current xpac but people complained about getting "upgrades" they couldn't use.
Juan Howard
>at the start of the current xpac but people complained about getting "upgrades" they couldn't use. That's because blizzard balance >be warrior >840 item with 1k mastery is better than 880 item because no mastery
they didnt even tried to balance stats for the first months of the game
Nolan Ward
Yeah it was that way with fire mage and crit too, crit was worth WAY more than int and so I had a 70% chance to crit while we were raiding EN. I miss that, it was a lot more fun when I was converting nearly every free pyroblast.
Aaron Long
>running AV in vanilla WoW as an undead warlock >stalemate currently at Stonehearth Graveyard (SH GY) >can't ninja it because of guards and continuous alliance spawn, can't ninja other bunkers because of roaming allies in their territory >suddenly get an epiphany >sound a call on general chat for all warlocks to gather at Balinda (Stonehearth Outpost, Balinda was long dead) >about 8 warlocks plus myself gather, from one random dude in greens to some in full nemesis >hand out 2 infernal stones to each >tell everyone the plan: we all wait at Balinda until the next Horde rez wave and Alliance rez wave hit each other at the SH GY, then mass coordinated infernal drop + howl of terror on the flag >30 seconds pass, we see Alliance and Horde smash into each other on the flag >sound the charge, spam /yell with INFERNO CHARGE, GOGOGO >8 infernals drop one after the other, plus one or two other unorganized warlocks get the same idea >stuns and aoes and fears everywhere >I can't even tell what's going on because my shitty comp can only get 5-6 fps
>"The Horde has assaulted Stonehearth Graveyard! If it is not reclaimed, the Horde will capture Stonehearth Graveyard!"
We ended up capping the Graveyard, and kept the momentum all the way to the end of the game. Old AV was a bit of a drag sometimes, but it was a unique zone where you got to experience stuff you saw in WC3, but from the PoV of the individual units. I still reminisce about it whenever I get the urge to resub to WoW.

That's the opposite of what that picture is conveying.
Kevin Moore
Though I don't really agree as far as the cosmetics go, I can still agree with the general sentiment. Vanilla WoW had some of the worst game design ever, and required huge amounts of time commitment to go anywhere, and if you didn't raid your character screeched to a halt unless you were willing to share your account and get PvP gear.
But at the same time, the leveling process wasn't such a bore, nighttime actually looked like nighttime, and the community was 20x better due to each server being its own microcosm. Having a good community experience and actually having people know you by your name outside of the guild was great.
Back before epic ground mounts were made a lot cheaper, I kept my materials for the warlock class mount quest. I kept getting whispers every so often from other warlocks looking to save 300ish gold for their epic mount. Over time, these whispers became more frequent because I knew how to do the boss encounter like the back of my hand, and that I only accepted tips and never any payment for my services. I miss that kind of community feeling.
Christopher Martinez

Like I said, auitsm.

>the players kited some large enemy right into Stormwind Kazzak? Fun times. Those things are fought over so intensely on high-pop servers. I've had a situation where 2 alliance and 2 horde rogues all jumped each other after a first person started trying to loot it. (I then ninjad it during the chaos and then 3 of those damn elites spawned and killed us all)
Anthony Turner

Neutral to exalted baby!
UGNH!
Jayden Moore
The sword is better because sinister strike goes off of weapon damage, not weapon dps, and the +2 strength won't bump up the effective weapon damage of the mace as high as the sword.
Having said all of that, you could argue that if you've already built up weapon skill in maces then you may as well just use the mace, but it's not like it's difficult for rogues to build weapon skill quickly when they have abilities to spam.

Never felt so good again in my life, wish I could go back to those simpler times
Adam Hill
This one hits hard, I remember when I had to do my paladin epic mount quest and I had no I idea what to do, and then randomly while running around in western plaguelands I met a group of players which one them happened to know the quest, so they helped me through scholomance and the rest with their own will and we became friends
from then on I remember if I met a low level paladin who didn't have his mount I would ask him if he wanted me to help him just because It made me happy

I remember when the best rogue on the server was camping the goblin airship for weeks at a time.
One day, I decided that I was going to try to run his blockade.
>Get on airship in stealth (Droods are great) >He knows I'm on the airship but doesn't know where >This continues until we get to Undead >Throw dynamite in where I think he's waiting, next to the exit in order to sap me. >Hit him >Run off the side and land in Brightwater Lake

>Proceed to emote shitting on his corpse. Including using his stupid blue nelf hair as toilet paper >He waited to keep from rezzing just so he could listen to the whole thing. >Get suspended for a week.
Worth it. I don't think he ever came back to the zepplin, either.
Austin Turner
I'm glad they didn't make those classes all homogeneous. It's nice that there are different stats because it means there's more gear that less people will fight over - if that makes sense.
Owen Martin
Shit like this is why TBC ruined wow for me. The whole race of floating glyph creatures being added in screams out laziness and a disrespect for the lore of the prior games. It's immersion-breaking.
Easton Gomez
Reminds me of a 2-hour duel between my holy pally and a resto druid in vanilla.
We had to call it off because he had to go raid.

Yeah makes sense, but still felt rather patchy and improvised. Just like both spell power stats now that I think about it: you got attack power from str/agi on melee classes/hunter besides that other raw attack power stat, but I don't think you got ANY spell power from int or did you? it's been a while.

TBC was a weird time. I like to think my Tauren had too much thistle that day
Nolan Stewart
Are you ready to face the gaunlet of death?
Lincoln Hernandez
In Vanilla, STR/AGI gave attack power, but in differing amounts depending on whether you were a strength class (2 AP per STR for warriors, not sure about pallies) or an agility class (rogues, hunters).
For casters, INT gave max mana and that's about it. If you wanted to increase your spell damage or spell healing, you had to get items with spell damage or spell healing. There were also elemental spell damage items (i.e. +fire damage, +shadow damage) that were generally present in greater quantities than with items with general spell damage.
Henry Ward

>ou got attack power from str/agi on melee classes/hunter besides that other raw attack power stat, but I don't think you got ANY spell power from int You're right. Int did give spell crit chance though at least. Something like 60int per 1% crit chance.
