When Dark Souls first came out, there were tons of rumors going around that you could save/spare Sif through ridiculous methods. Shit like getting to the third rank in the Forest Hunter's covenant to which the cat would give you an item from Artorias, finding another entrance to the boss fight, or leaving with a homeward bone after getting him down to his limping health range.

I fell for it pretty hard. After finding out the methods used to save Solaire though, it sounded pretty reasonable that you could spare Sif through some convoluted method. DaS was one of those games where someone would tell me a crazy sequence of actions that leads to changed content, and I would struggle to say they're lying. For example, everything to do with Ash Lake upon release sounded like total bullshit. Then I hit the walls.

Nobody is "themselves" all the time, everyone has masks, personas, identities to different people, secrets to hide. Life is all about impressions, usually first impressions. You always want to be presentable, showing your good characteristics while trying to hide your weaknesses from the public eye. Hell, the saying itself is just a way to pretend to people you are a very authentic person to yourself and have nothing to hide. So "just be yourself" seems like the absolute worst advice for life that is always passed around, it just puts you at a disadvantage your whole life if you follow it to heart, while I believe most people who say it don't believe in it themselves.
