My idea is basically make the movie They Live where the object is to convince the masses that they are being tricked by a foreign race to give their resources to them. A lot more games should be based on that movie besides a few references from a Simpsons game and Duke Nukem.

I don't play horror games that much but I love sh3 and fatal frame 2. Anymore games like those?

A horror game that actually turns body horror into a mechanic.

Enemies could inflict you with what ever mutated them, which would translate into new abilities, but also deteriorating health. So you'd have to look for a cure before you die. If you do die from the affliction then you'll respawn with all mutations and their effects increased.

An example would be an octopus creature infecting you causing your character to grow tentacles, which allow you to grab far away object and scale walls, but you need to submerge yourself in water every so often, to avoid drying out and getting a game over.

Step 3: The player can bring about the horror aspects by their own volition or by accident instead of being forced to do so/shoved into the horor

Focus on the uncanny valley effect. Play off the player's own paranoia. Stuff like body horror and over-the-top religious themes have been over done. What we need to do is take the familiar and subvert it in a subtle way.

You're pulling into some backwater town. You're not even quite sure where you are because your GPS maps haven't been updated for a while. You can't help but notice how everyone seems to look at you for a second too long. That house wife hanging out laundry, or that mailman who's walking by. When you pull into the gas station for fuel, all of the snacks and products there have seemingly bizarre warning labels or flavours which don't seem normal. Paper flavoured gum? For what reason? Everything about this town doesn't feel right or seem right, you feel alienated and you just want to leave as soon as you can. Some nameless, formless sense of dread is driving you to escape this place.

And then your car won't start.

Add a single horror segment about 2/3rds in.
Thats one of the reasons why metal gear is great.

The production values required for this would never be achievable by the kind of indie studio that would be interested in the undertaking, and such a product would never be able to make enough profit to even break even. It's the kind of thing that will only ever work in the medium of short film, where there are already plenty of examples.
