METROID THREAD
I'm playing through Prime 2 right now, it's my first playthrough. I'm collecting the keys for the second Dark Temple. But holy shit, Dark/Light Beam suck. I really don't like the mechanic of balancing use for ammo restocking, most of the time I just use the regular power beam even though it takes longer, just because there's no risk of running out of ammo then having to explode crates so I can open a door.
I found him guys, I found metroid
How many ammo expansions have you found? Once you get one or two you have a lot more to work with than the initial 50 ammo. But still, there are enough crates that it shouldn't be a problem, unless you get OCD because you get to max ammo with one beam and then have to use a shot to max out your other beam ammo and you're always missing one shot of either type.
>A7: Miyamoto: We want to make anime for Pikmin, Star Fox, Yoshi, etc. and distribute it freely, or integrate into games.
How do you guys feel about a Metroid anime?
that is also one of my gripes with 2, that and some of the bosses where too hard, even when you knew what you where doing. at least for me I feel no joy beeting them I just feel glad there over.
1>3>2 but 2 is still a good game 7/10
There already is a Star Fox anime and it's pretty good.

Would be perfect with a short format, probably better if they go with a spooky vibe than an action tone.
I guess they want to make more? Miyamoto seems intent on making Star Fox more popular, what with SF2 and all. I think Metroid would work wonders if done well.
Why the fuck do americans get the inferior collectors edition?

>Adore Fusion
>Struggling to get into Super
Not digging Super's controls, and the game as a whole feels sluggish when compared to Fusion. Zebes seems to be a static world compared to one that really felt alive like Fusion's space station. Just beat Phantoon. Does it get better, or am I just missing something?
THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY
Most people dislike how "floaty" Super feels after playing Zero Mission or Fusion. There's a hack that changes the controls to be more like ZM.
>cant find super metroid ROM on emuparadise
someone help
a lot of nintendo games were recently removed not just SM
Nintendo hit them hard. Try torrents or archive.org
completeroms
i don't know what is wrong with you people finding a rom is literally "name of rom" and the word rom in google.
The physics and controls do take a bit of getting used to. Once you really get a feel for them, the game will feel faster. There's potential to have really precise, crisp platforming in Super (just look at any speedrun), but if you don't know all of the nuances of how Samus moves then it can feel clunky at times. While I generally prefer how Super plays, I can admit that the GBA games had tighter, more intuitive controls and the platforming was designed really well around those controls.
Nintendo nuked emuparadise a week or two ago. No more first party Nintendo games on there.
>tfw walljumping feels awful in Fusion
Not that there's anything to skip but still.
A real shame, that. I loved how it felt in Super.
Explain.
They were nuked again. There are no more Capcom games now either.
I am excited for Samus Returns.
If you use the Infinite Speed Glitch to get the Wave Beam and skip the cutscene, the other Samus cutscene model freezes and stays in place.
That's a shame. I've been using emuparadise for over a decade. At least they still have other roms to offer, and there are alternatives, but it was just such a nice site in general.
that looks hard as fuck
Google Super Metroid GBA Style!
Played it. Loved it.
That's a hack for after playing the original game.
Just like you should only play AM2R after playing the original.
The game just isn't made for the changes it brings about.
Plus it's got that shitty music replacement.
Will check it out, since it'll likely make me appreciate the stellar level design more.
>Once you really get a feel for them, the game will feel faster. There's potential to have really precise, crisp platforming in Super
To add to this a bit, this example here. It doesn't look all that impressive, but the jumps are pretty hard to do precisely enough to bypass the need for the grappling beam.
You can charge an empty gun to shoot a weaker beam, still works for doors.
Ammo is almost never an issue. There are crates and living storage caches (seriously what the fuck is wrong with the luminoth) everywhere, and shooting those as well as killing enemies will drop ammo for the opposite beam. It's piss-easy to get stocked back up on ammo. Even when you run out you can charge a weaker shot and that's still good enough to get ammo to drop.
And this, the way that momentum affected your jump height, allowing for some creative jumps to bypass certain obstacles.
I am I the only one who wants a HD remake of this for switch?
Playing through Fusion for the first time. Heard it was pretty linear, and I'm definitely seeing what people meant by that. It's ok, but I'm not sure I'd ever want to play it again.
that's such an awesome underrated feature
I really want to buy Fusion to play on my SP but eBay is fucking littered with bootlegs and not even just buying from the states is safe anymore. Why are Chinese people such horrid goblins when it comes to anything money related? I wish there was a way to completely block all Chinese sellers.
Romhustler has like 97% of nintendo roms
How many of you plan to replay ZM the night before SR releases? I know I will
I never had a problem with the linearity personally. Still had fun with exploring to find missiles/energy tanks, and it also meant that I was grinding bombs into every wall for 20 mins only to realise 'Shit, I should probably go back to Norfair'
It is. Even harder when the missile is there, because you need to sit through the fanfare and anticipate when the game will start back up again right before your walljump input. There's a backup strategy though. The backup is also hard.
Only if they really fix the story mode. Either that or just make a more fleshed out version of the online with frequent patches and free DLC like their other games and sell that digitally for like, $15 or something.
I like Hunters but it sucks that the story mode is so lack luster with a really cool premise and actual bounty hunting. It'd be cool to have Prime sized worlds to get lost in and have to track down the other hunters when they steal your shit.
>every time I boot up prime trilogy, I get splitting migraines after a while of playing
I wanna play prime
user, have you been diagnosed with anything yet? Sounds like a vestibular ocular weakness, which is what I suffer from as well. Is it just Prime that does it to you or do other things do it as well? I could try and give you some tips that help me but I'm not a doctor so you should take it with a grain of salt.
so far its the only game
If you have insurance, or don't live in burgerland, I'd recommend seeing a physical therapist who specialises in eye related things. Do you have any idea what it is about Prime that specifically triggers it?
no idea
but when I just goggled what you said, it led to Oscillopsia
We get the worst versions with the least amount of stock
My current playthrough of this has me wondering if the grapple beam is ever actually necessary for anything.
>intentional scarcity
I fucking hate how much of a boner nintendo has for this tactic.
What kind of games do you normally play? I know some people who mostly play 2D or limited 3D games will often have problems switching over to 3D but if it's just one specific game that's really strange. Maybe it's the weird dark lighting mixed with random bright lights, flashing, and all that?
kek, good thing I just got a mapless patch of Super Metroid, and Chrono Trigger, not too long ago.
Well, I guess it's technically necessary to get 100% collection.
usually platformers. But I play 3D games and usually dont have this problem
For what purpose?
Metroid related vidya confession time:
I've beaten every 2D Metroid and played most of the 3D ones. I'm still absolute garbage at both walljumping and bombjumping. Bonus: I still like to get as many collectables as possible, and at least twice during Super I hacked the game so I could get two missile expansions that required those techniques to reach.
Forgive me Sup Forums.
When you say usually do you mean you sometimes get it with other games? Sorry to play 20 questions with you, I just know how much it can suck to not be able to play games.
.....
I actually like the comparatively sluggish feel that Super has in the sense that you can really feel like you're slowly exploring the planet. That and in general, the whole "it feels like you're on an alien world." I suppose I like the actual controls of the GBA games more, but I really don't have a preference, myself.
This is unacceptable! I demand you commit ritual sudoku!
I preferred this because it at least gave you a use for your power beam and balanced the effects of the plasma and ice beams.
In Prime 1 you never had a reason to utilize the power or wave beam by the end of the game unless the enemies were making you play a game of Simon. The amount of beam switching you had to do every couple of seconds in Phazon Mines and Impact Crater got stupid.
Combat overall in Prime 1 was fucking mindless besides the final two bosses.
its only happened in Prime(s)
You ever notice that Metroids and Komaytos are almost exactly alike?
>Metroid related vidya confession time:
I hate the Prime games. Because I've never played them. I tried a bit of Prime 1 and thought it was awesome, but never got to finish it.
Don't feel too ashamed, I mess up a lot on wall jumping and fucking suck at bomb jumping for too long. It's hard to get into the bomb jump rhythm and I only got good at it when I played Metroid II. I don't think there's really any shame in admitting your weaknesses, as long as you're having a good time with the games.
Go away Pit
It's okay user I have a confession too.
I made this thread. But I've never completed Super Metroid and took that snip from probably my first attempt at playing it. I loved Metroid games on GB but for some reason I just never played the SNES version.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, since you can skip this Chozo Ghost fight after picking up X-Ray, with enough sequence breaking you should be able to beat this game with only two ghost encounters. One in the Hall of the Elders, and one in the Sun Chamber.
Just helping Samus find herself.
I can forgive you as long as you're having fun.
I enjoyed FUCKING SOCCER
To this day I still haven't beaten Prime 2 (stuck on Emperor Ing), never finished original Metroid 1 and 2 on NES and GB.

I suck ass at wall jumping in Super but only when playing on the Wii. For some reason I'm fine emulating it with my Dualshock 3.

AM2R functions excellently as a complete replacement for Metroid II.
Just finished fusion.
Pretty good, the bosses are much more challenging than Super bosses. But i think i prefer the exploration in super metroid.
This might be a dumb question but would you like to see a different genre being used in the Metroid universe as a side game now that we're getting real Metroids again?
I'd love a short survival horror game from the perspective of a GFED Marine or a Space Pirate when Samus attacks their base
I didn't authorize a Metroid thread.
It does, but the original game should be played as well.
I always wondered why Retro handled holding L to strafe like this. Rather than just making you move side to side, it actually just makes you walk around a very far away object. You can bring it close to you by doing this.
I see Samus is a fan of Speed Racer
>Blastball is still canon as the most popular sport in the Metroid Universe.
An RTS or something in which you play as the Space Pirates, set after Prime 3 so they've just been kicked off of the Pirate Homeworld, and the surviving forces wage a planet-hopping war campaign against the GF to get their stronghold back. Samus isn't around to stop them because she's busy killing everything on SR388. Eventually they reach Zebes again, just in time to set up for Super's events.
