Just music? Japan has better stories that often don't take themselves too seriously.
Also better gameplay in general, better length, better variety of designs and enviroments, better voice acting and better settings.
It's not better in graphic quality or immersion, I'll give you that.
The West tries too hard to distance themselves from Japan while bringing samey shit all the time.
Did you watch E3? All western shit was shooters, open world boredom, with realistic graphics set in modern times or futuristic shit, with VERY few exceptions.
Regardless, I like this one youtube.com
American video game music is descended from Hollywood, Japanese video game music draws from a somewhat larger pool
Pretty much this.
Lower standards probably, awful shite gets through but so does the avant-garde tracks you wouldn't find anywhere else
youtube.com
its probably cause you have no taste
The west is creatively bankrupt. I wish the USA would die already. Fucks think they own the world.
>have to pick between god awful buttrock, garbage synth, or shitty mall orchestral
wrpgs and jrpgs were a mistake
One makes games, the other tries to mimic Hollywood.
Explain this, then:

That's a great tune
>g-guys we want more pay that based on sales
>m-muh voice and restrictive nda
With the increasing cost of making games, i am not surprised companies playing it safe.
This is the real answer, all others are meme comments
Japanese soundtracks feel attached to the environments of games. There's just something beautiful about them.
Didn't your parents teach you to not generalize?
Post more good japnese vidya music
Radiant Historia is such a good game. Shimomura outdid herself with the soundtrack as well
Here's another one good one youtu.be

please excuse that it's a 2017 meme game
My favorite of the year

WEST IS BEST BASED EA
Japanese people have a very disciplined culture. That helps.
They don't. You either don't play enough "Western" (what the fuck does this even mean) games or you strawman every "Western" game as shit like Life is Strange. Point is either way you're a biased weeb who needs to play more western titles.

Halo has a great OST, I don't think anyone will deny that.
I think most people on Sup Forums just generalize any game made by white people as Western. Even though countries like Poland and Russia are clearly not Western or white
This song could never appear in a big-budget American game. Publishers try to sweep anything creative under the rug.

This one is a great example of how to use build up and then make it explode.

Fuck yeah my dude, probably the greatest multiplayer game of all time. Arena shooters are by far and large the best video game genre. Most games can't get the music to match the gameplay as good as they do. Weebs can go fuck themselves

P5 will go down as one of the best vidya OSTs, even compared to the other Persona games

Also I put HM there because what else is it? I think it's most close to a arena shooter.

How can weebs compete?
>PARTY ROCKERS IN THE HOUSE TONIGHT
...
yawn
>Game set in 2011
>PARTY ROCK IS IN THE HOUSE TONIGHT
Same reason as why they have better character design : striving for beauty, not following some ridiculous ideology (in the west case : political correctness)
Are you ironic memeing?
That sounds like a mediocre FFXIV dungeon theme.
I WANNA SCREAM
AND SHOUT
AND LET IT ALL OUT
This is just a rearrangement of the old Nier soundtrack. How lazy.
>first minute is fucking 10/10 and then immediately shits itself
Why does this occur in all nip songs? Posting good western music.

Please post something that doesn't sound like Hans Zimmer crapped it out for a high school music project
You know they sub-contracted the Revengeance soundtrack to an American composer, right?
kek
Because video game music composition is taken more seriously in Japan, simply put. I also think Japan does top-40-esque pop songwriting arguably better than the West.
i did not.

A man of taste, I see
To be fair though does Japan even produce music? Aside from shitty 15 year old boy band pop
oh shit, are we doing non-vidya music now
>BU-BUT IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY!
Aside from video games and anime has Japan contributed anything to the world culturally?
>To be fair though does Japan even produce music?
One of the largest and most varied music scenes in the world actually.

Akira Kurosawa?
Japan just cares more about the music in games in general.
Even to the point that during the 8 bit era.
Sega Master system had a Music addon.
And many Famicom games had extra hardware in the cart to add better music.
the real question is why do japs make better games in general. or, at least, why they make more games worth playing (even if they are often heavily flawed)
id wager that its partially because developing for portables encourages game design which is a little more out there rather than just retreading the same shit. even their dudebro games (monhun, pokemon, mario) are far more imaginative than the west.
i think this also fits because before the 7th gen i think the west had a much better showing. something about the xbox really just fucked everything up, and we also unfortunately lost blizz and valve on pc soon after.
Apart from their notable contributions to medical science, electronics, cinematography, robotics and horology?
>culturally
sounds like generic post and alt rock to me
Japanese martial arts.
Most of the world learns martial arts the Japanese way.
>inspired on Touhou and Earthbound

Western games are trying to be Hollywood.
Hollywood are trying to bore us all to death.
why doesnt korea make good vidya? china has horrible copyright law, had a ban on consoles until recently, and a heavily censored media.
whats koreas excuse? they stopped executing people on the streets well over 30 years ago now. make some fucking video games for national pride, will ya?
Some of the most horrendous shit I've ever had the pain to listen to. Jesus christ why can't Japs into non video game music?
All pale in comparison to european cultural and scientific achievements
Undertale took pretty much everything from Japanese games, including the musical style.
>2000+10+7
>can't into eclectic bubblegum noisegrind pop
plebe
not bad for a single country
Last 2 western games I managed to seriously enjoy were Red Dead Redemption and Ass Creed Black Flag, probably because those have the more realistic pirate and Old West settings that I think are harder for Japan to emulate, while coming naturally to western devs. Love One Piece but I don't think the games are the pirating simulator that Black Flag gives me. First couple hours of playing skyrim are a bit magical as well, most japanese games won't usually give you the freedom to fuck off and do whatever you want to a town and its people like that. I just think both sides have their strengths and weaknesses that they could learn from each other. BotW is a good example of jap devs learning from the west and trying new things in a popular genre.
Somebody post the melt banana copypasta
The remixes are always better with Touhou.
youtube.com
iirc, they have an extremely strict and expensive ratings board which must be used in order to publish anything, squashing any form of game production that isn't grindy cash shop based MMO games.
Plus Koreans can't make anything good anyway.
At least post a good one that's actually a remix
