Let's talk about Metroidvanias. Which one is your favorite? Which ones would you recommend buying this steam sale? Which one disappointed you?
Metroidvania

I bought Hollow Knight but I haven't played it yet, hope it's good.
Played Ori but it didn't hook me as much as I thought it would.
La Mulana is probably one of the greatest Metroidvanias, but it's just as much of a puzzle game. You gotta be willing to really spend some time to figure shit out. Some of it can be pretty obscure.
Marrowfag was right about HK being shit but Marrow is even more so.
Hollow Knight is great. The visuals and the tight gameplay are going to hook you in.
I also played Ori and I found it to be kind of boring. It's not bad, it's just a little boring.
What I have a problem with is La Mulana. Something about it throws me off so much that I've never got past the very beginning. I think it's the jumps, you have no air control until you start falling.
Been sitting on a bunch of Steam games for a while now but just started playing Rabi Ribi again. I'm not sure if playing on Hard for my first playthrough was a good idea.
Have Momodora and La-Mulana as well, might pick up Hollow Knight right before the sales end.
I can't get into La-Mulana at all. I want to but the jumping feels so janky I just quit after the first few screens everytime I try. Once I'm done with Rabi Ribi I'll give it another go and hopefully get myself accustomed to the controls and physics
Guacamelee count? It's one of my favorite games of all time, memes aside. I'm a sucker for the Mexican Day of the Dead artsyle, and the combat is really satisfying.
I get that the jumping is Classicvania style and that turns some people off, but it's really a case of getting used to it. The puzzles in the game are REALLY clever and the bossfights are gonna fuck your shit up.
The game really wouldn't be the same without that style of jumping, it's supposed to punish you for doing things without thinking.
still waiting
But it makes the game feel unresponsive and clunky instead, since during jumping you completely lose control of your character.
I get that it's going back to the 'roots', but if you're making a game, you should really learn from the mistakes of the past.
Isn't that the gay porn game?
...
the image for the anubis thing looks like gay furry porn, so probably
...
It's not something that everyone will like, but it's a design choice I'm glad they made instead of changing to suit more people.
Inertia is a thing, user. It's not clunky, it's just a bit more realistic. You're not a big hero with crazy powers, you're just an Indiana Jones wannabe.
>having trouble with the girl with the computer stuff
>decide to go explore the other areas a bit and grind money to buy the power ups in the shop
>find underground cave
>on the way out have to fight Cocoa and she's even tougher than the computer girl
There was a charge beam power up in there too and I have to beat her if I want to get out of the cave with that power up.
I love Reisen too
I cant' wait for the one faggot user who post his shitty tier list ignores Spider-Man again
nah, just a wholesome maze of galious clone
indie games absolutely btfo by moogy
>Which one is your favorite?
Portrait of ruin, but only on hard mode where the level/enemy design actually follows and you need to actually make use of the varried mechancs
>Which ones would you recommend buying this steam sale?
Valdis Story
>Which one disappointed you?
Every momodra game (1-3 blatantly steal from cavestory, 4 blatantly steals from dark souls) and hollow knight (another dark souls ripoff but also the combat is insanely shallow and bad)
It's a shame so many metroidvanias want to steal from dark souls, since the first game was basically the best 3D castlevania we ever got
I got Salt and Sanctuary recently and have been loving it. I feel like the problem with a lot of Metroidvanias is that they try to skimp on the RPG mechanics, and S&S goes in the complete opposite direction.
Jesus, that blue chick is cute.
Just got La Mulana a couple days ago and I love it
>Which one is your favorite?
Super Metroid, Castlevania Chronicles and Castlevania Rondo of Blood. Haven't played Momodora but it doesn't look as good as the classics to me.
How can an anime watching faggot, a medium known for its repetitive shallow tropes and irredeemably bad writing, talk about narrative in video games?
It's probably you posting your own shit. Fucking kill yourself, you pretentious faggot.
I picked up Pharoh Rebirth+ on sale, and it's pretty good for only $4. Really hate this stupid minecart level though.
I'm enjoying Dead Cells, if that counts.
Oh hey, don't mind me.
Those are some the most poorly thought out misguided opinions I've read all week. That was like reading a collection of steam reviews written by someone with mild aspegers. Really bad post dude
super mario 3 was the best mariovania
>BIG
>FAT
>WITCH
>TITS
Great game. Probably a bit more linear than people expect from a metroidvania, but the combat and charm make it a great play. I do wish it wasn't so god damn easy though.
>STILL posting the one without OoE
Wow, you're bugging me before I even post now. Which games should I add and which tier should I put them in?
It does not.
Play them yourself. Thy're not hard to emulate.
CotM and the Shantae games should be moved up a tier, and PoR down one.
give me evolution of momodora (1-6)
Got Dust: An Elysian Tale for $4 and was excited. But damn, Fidget is incredibly annoying. It's ruining the game for me.
Good taste
You can fight her and you have to hit her boobs. Complete with boob physics.[/spoile
Stop posting these fucking lists
