It has some issues, this is the one game where I would be okay with some form of rubberbanding for players.
Online if you managed to not get caught up in the takedown shitshow with the rest of the racers it was a breeze to maintain the lead. Also traffic was insane RNG that could fuck a player insanely hard for what was, at points, impossible to avoid. As long as you boosted enough to raise yourself to max speed and coasted on the right side of the road you were going to win, no matter fucking what.
You can tell they tried to alleviate this issue with Traffic Checking in Revenge but it still wasn't enough. Can't call a game perfect if it has glaring flaws in its multiplayer.
