Help
...
I know this takes place on an alien ocean world, but how alien is it, exactly?
Like, does it go full Cthulhu or is it grounded in what we would consider reality?
Well there's one of the big creatures there Here's another
The alien fish are based off Earth fish. The underwater ocean world has some fairly alien sections but it doesn't feel too unlike our own with kelp forests, coral reefs.
Near the surface is mostly "normal" stuff, kind of cartoony but fairly grounded.
Shit gets spooky once you start going deeper
dude let me in, I'm a fairy
That's just your friendly neighborhood sea dragon, taking care of those pesky lava lizards for you
this is now a comfy thread
post comfy seabases
My nigga. I built a base there, too.
Is Subnautica good now? I played it in super early access and while promising, it lacked content.
...
>building a base all the way down in the lost river instead of making one where safe shallows, kelp forest, and grassy plateaus meet
why would you put it so far out of the way?
>posting year old webms when the game has received several major content updates since then
I keep thinking I'll get back into Subnautica but then I remember how irritating the early game is, especially now that you have to unlock *rooms* of all things. I'm also guessing that there's still no map.
for maximum dick-waving potential
the western mushroom forest is objectively the comfiest surface-level biome, if you insist on building somewhere "practical" and "convenient" like a casual
I build several bases all over the map as points of refuel and for when I want to stay somewhere else while exploring. I use the bobthebuilder console command code for all blueprints and unlimited resources so I can just make what I want.
actually, casuals would build bases where they look cool. a robust player would find out the best location for nearby resource harvesting and the least amount of travel time to any biome in the game.
did they change anything shown in the webm?
the sparse reef is actually a pretty good location if you're just after resources, it's basically 100% safe, there's absolute loads of basic resources everywhere, and it borders the sea treader's path, the crash zone and the grand reef for late game resources
not very comfy though
Where's the best place to go about looking for moon pool fragments?
Having played parts of it, I am forcing myself to not go any further since I don't want to spoil myself by getting everything and then starting all over again when the game gets out of EA so soon. Feels bad man.
grand reef or mountains, depending on whether you hate reapers or warpers/crabsquids more
if you want just resources and don't care about travel time, then the best spot is the junction between sparse reef, sea treader's path, and blood kelp trench. people who complain about copper, go find sea treaders and follow BEHIND them, every step they take will leave outcroppings that can drop lithium or copper.
>not very comfy though
it's a horror game, not really meant to make you ever feel comfortable
just play in creative mode you nigger
Guess I'll have to build the Cyclops now then. Was hoping to have the moon pool first.
mermaid*
if you get the seamoth pressure compensator from the aurora you can explore the shallower areas of the grand reef pretty safely, the mountains are a little risky but not too bad.
>literally the only "good" early access survival sim exploration sandbox game
>also literally the only early access survival sim exploration sandbox game without multiplayer
Is this game worth 10 shekels?
Nah, I like being able to still die and shit.
>spawn near the engine
That's near the thermal vent, no? It's prime real estate.
Just don't go right up to the engines.
Have you played another early access build/survive game and liked it? Yes. Have you played another early access build/survive game and not liked it? No. Have you never fallen for the build/survive early access game meme? Maybe.
>like being able to die
>cheats in all the blueprints that makes it basically impossible to die
i mean its a single player game, you can do what you want, that just seems kinda silly instead of just playing in creative. you can grapple to the back of a sea dragon leviathan and punch it to death as soon as you start the game if you're just cheating everything in.
Your uninformed opinion is noted and discarded
I made a booboo
Torrent the most recent build and give it like 5 hours or so, there's essentially no optimization so it starts to run like shit after you've gotten some time into a save. If it runs reasonably well for you and you enjoy it, it's totally worth ten bucks
cutefish when
I just got the parts I needed, thanks. A fucking wreck almost killed me by popping in as I was exploring but I finally got it. Now to figure out some primo real estate so I can abandon my shit above water seabase.
No shit, survival with a buddy isn't really survival at that point. There's no sense of loneliness and isolation.
It woulf still be fun.
it'd probably kill the atmosphere, yeah, but co-op submarine shenanigans have enough potential that I'd still be interested to see how it worked out
>building a base in the lag forest
The Long Dark is decent and singleplayer, smaller scope than Subnautica though.
>not having a twin pascal GTX titan build, powered by Razerâ„¢
If you build right on the edge of the biome it's manageable on my mid-tier system, It'd be cool if you could build a base right on the huge central tree without the game turning into a slideshow
This is how high you can go apparently.
i kept glitching through the rock and having to restart
Does the game still run like dogshit?
...
i aint ever playing this fukcing shit
fuck that
Yeah. They still have not fully removed the voxel map.
Fug didn't mean to reply to you, also yes, it does.
Can anyone give me a quick rundown on this game? Is it worth the $9.99 price tag? I enjoyed playing terraria and I kinda like to sperg around with these single player sandbox, survival and crafting games.
don't worry dude
there's lots of friendly sea creatures in this game, just waiting for you to come visit them
just look at these goofy fellows
pretty solid exploration/crafting/deep-sea horror game with god-tier art direction, questionable balance decisions and miserable optimization. It's worth ten bucks if you can run it well, and the devs have been hinting at a comprehensive optimization patch within the next few months.
What is the highest depth you can venture to?
>highest depth
You're the survivor of a crashed spaceship on an alien ocean planet, you explore and collect resources and blueprints from wreckage to build your base and vehicles. There's a story to the game with various setpieces, but the rate at which you explore and complete the main story is mostly up to you.
Unlike Terraria, Minecraft, etc. there's no procedural generation, so there's less replayability. The upside of course is that everything is hand-crafted.
The story content is like 90% complete, but the final pieces haven't been added yet. The next 3-4 months are going to be dedicated to finishing the story and doing a big optimization/polish pass.
For $10 is a good deal, but it's so close to leaving early access you might just want to wait a few more months.
There is a plan to increase the price when it leaves early access in Sep/Oct though, so it's not a bad idea to simply buy it now for $10 and wait until later to play it.
There's also going to be a pet fish that follows you around added for early-access buyers.
>highest depth
The lava biome, probably.
Yes, highest depth, meaning the highest value (in terms of meters) from the surface you can go to,
iirc the deepest your exosuit can go is 1700m before it starts taking hull damage
technically you can go deeper than that but you won't live very long and there's nothing to see beyond that
there is an expansion planned so they might add even deeper areas in the future
Sup, little bitches.
put me in the screencap
there used to be a pit that went down to like 2.5k, but I'm not sure if it's still there, and they recently changed how oxygen works so I'm pretty sure it'd be impossible to get that deep now anyway
>put me in the screencap
Oh fuck off. You know exactly what I meant. When i'm talking about depth I no longer refer to sea level from the ocean. Therefore, as you descend more and more the value of meter increases relative to the *surface* of the ocean.
Literally never seen one of these in over 100 hours of playing. Is this something to be added later?
...
English must not be your first language
I think they plan for it to patrol the void beyond the map
FUCK
It most certainly is. What are you having trouble with understanding from my post? I'd love to help you if you are struggling.
Ghost Leviathan is still in experimental, not quite finished yet. And they're still debating on where to put it because they said the size they want it at makes its original home, the Lost River, a little too tight (which is bullshit because the Bones Field, Ghost Forest, and Junction are more than large enough to hold it).
potentially also the lost river, but I think they may have scrapped that idea because it's too big for the area
That would be pretty neat actually. You know you fucked up when you see this motherfucker head towards your cyclops.
where is all the copper reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
at most I got 10 since starting the game and I already can't make more computer chips/power cells, fucking titanium I swear
The sea dragons are annoying as fuck though, I don't know why we need another leviathan down in the lost river when the gameplay is silent running > shield > powerdown until cooldowns are up to get past every threat.
I really fucking hope he's not a Void area-only creature, because that would be an incredible waste of time, especially since they worked so hard to get it ready for launch because they really liked it. And there's also going to be Crabsquids and Reapers and Sea Dragons in the Void too, so there's no reason for the Ghost Leviathan to be Void only.
The problem is that the Ghost only looks good when in the Lost River since it was made specifically for that area. Anywhere else and it looks weird and out of place, not to mention there's already dangeroud beasts in those areas like Bonesharks and Ampeels and Crabsquids and shit.
...
this game also has a fantastic ost
The copper cockblock is real.
Honestly you can't really get tons of copper without either a scanner room, which requires 2-3 computer chips to use effectively or the prawnsuit with drill arm.
Once you get the drill arm you can just harvest the copper nodes around the map for an infinite supply.
How long until it's out of early access?
my scanner room mark shit I already collected, this shit doesn't works
at least the cameras were usefull to locate the lost base in the cabe with the crab-eel thing and the big mushrooms
Old webm I made of the Ghost Leviathan cruising around the Lost River, think I'll make a better one in a little bit.
Think September/October.
it's too bad the soundtrack constantly glitches out for me and almost never plays any music
until you get the PRAWN drill it's just RNG from limestone outcrops
at least there's lots of limestone around though, getting silver from sandstone is much more bothersome than finding copper
also something that's kind of obvious but you might not notice, sandstone (mostly) only spawns on vertical walls and ceilings
he looks awkward as hell down there
Turn if off for a minute or so then turn it back on and it won't scan for stuff you already collected.
Honestly though the prawnsuit is where its at.
You end up using quite a bit of copper and being able to mine it is fucking awesome.
Also helpful for things like quartz, gold, etc.
Does it still run like shit?
looks weird, needs to be faster
>le "no guns allowed in my game because sandy hook" developer game
No thanks user.
Thats not how english works there. You must be 18 to post on this website.
Performance has improved some over the last several months, but it's not drastically better than it was a year ago.
Their big performance pass is planned for the next 3-4 months though. After that it will leave early access.
Actually improves the game when you have to be more creative in avoiding danger instead of just firing lasers and shit at every large creature you encounter until its dead.
crater base
Stop responding to the gun trolls, they do this every single Subnautica thread.
Cyclops base docking module when?
>want to build a comfy base
>have absolutely no idea how to build one or where to build one
is there any guideline online for base building? I'm pretty retarded
so the only way to collect the big ores is with the drill arm? no good old pickaxe or something?
ok then this happened
>go over the the base
>sub fucks
>does a flip
>pushes me in the ground
survival mode
or no food mode ?
