They are one of the few classes where everything they have and do tends to have a meaning.

They use lances, not swords, to slay dragons. The lance affords them reach, and the piercing power is much greater. They aren't buff because they need to be light a nimble to use their hallmark ability, Jump, where they jump incredibly high in the air to reach massive dragons and use all of their body weight with their spear to dive down and pierce thick dragon scales. And their armor, as mentioned, is also designed to have some advantage over other armors to fight dragons. It's lighter mail, not plate.

Overall easily one of the most thought out and cool classes in RPGs.

The Souls series is exactly how NOT to implement polearms in games.

Nier Automata has good spears and Nioh also uses them well. It's difficult for me to think of games that have fun spears because most devs are like the hacks at From Software and just make them poke machines.

I really wanted Dragon's Dogma to have spears, they're referenced so much in game and even the Dragonforged used one. Must have been too hard to fit into the basic, advanced and hybrid vocations.

A new Dragoon vocation would have been amazing with how they put so much effort into climbing on monsters. Imagine just being able to jump into the air and drive a spear into a Griffin's back from above.

A green vocation for spear users, red/green could be a lance/shield user. Yellow/green could be like a dragoon, still nimble and agile like the strider, ranger and assassin. As for blue/green, maybe a fast casting vocation. Summoning spears of lightning/ice to impale goblins and cyclops eyes? Can't think of anything for advanced though

I like necromancers but they're shockingly not common.
