Honestly thought the new city in GR2 was underwhelming despite being bigger and more colorful , but everything after getting back to Hekseville was great.

Elaborate or kill yourself, shitposter-kun. The game isn't flawless but it does things better than any other open world game ever released, that alone makes it better. Bringing something new to the table of the most saturated genre in the industry at the moment is a feat that doesn't happen very often anymore.

Even if BotW is shit, it's still miles better than the pure wankery of Automata.

The game is good but it's overhyped as fuck. The sidequests are even worse than BotW's worst sidequests, the open world format was shit and it didn't even have a DECENT open world (hope you enjoy invisible walls), the hack n slash combat was severely lacking in depth and paled in comparison to other Platinum titles and the gameplay segment before 2B's death was absolute garbage. The game in general had way too many downsides to even be a GotY contender.

I love the game but it's not a good example, the world is empty aside from gems and SOME challenges that aren't even really good, the main appeal if anything it's just flying around because the world is pretty and pretty well crafted, aside from that GR isn't really a good open world game.

Really? I played the first on vita and was thrilled to see the world on actual capable hardware. The atmosphere and music is 10/10.

I can understand the interest for Nier Automata, but to put it above BOTW and P5 is a bit of stretch.
Are people seeing something in Nier that I'm not? I'm talking about all 5 main endings too.

I enjoyed all the games on the list btw.

I've enjoyed Tales of Berseria, Hollow Knight, Prey, RE7 and The Sexy Brutale. Pretty good year.
Although I did dislike Mass Effect, Yooka Laylee and Syberia 3.

Each game on the list comes with its own experience. Nier has a very unique experience very different from the other titles, so it's either someone's favorite game this year, or it's behind several other games.

Helps that I loved the original despite an obvious boatload of flaws.

p5 is overrated and boring
