Esports are dying

First the major korean SC2 teams disband, now this.
Its only a matter of time.

So what are those reasons

Why did they leave?

Maybe they could move into rainbow six siege, so that Ubi actually spends money in 1080p broadcasts

this

What happened? I thought Overwatch was supposed to be the next big esport.

This

What the fug OP, you had one job

>people ACTUALLY thought Overwatch esports would last
holy shit the absolute state of vidya

>evil geniuses
Who?

>hur dur reasons
>doesn't post reasons

I think this might be an attempt to get us to google shit and end up on his crappy news website

>Competitive gachapon
How does that work

>Fuck You OP

Evil Geniuses, the big esports organisation with teams in most big competitive games, has announced that it’s disbanding its Overwatch squad.

The company said the decision came after “a dialogue”, and added that synergy between players hasn’t been where it needed to be in order for the team to continue.

Evil Geniuses also noted that although it does not currently have any Overwatch teams, this is not the end for their interest in competitive Overwatch. “We will be looking on to how the scene continues to develop,” the team wrote.

The team showed solid performance in online tournaments, but actually didn’t do well in the Contenders open qualifiers. This is perhaps the bigger reason for the move, but there’s also the uncertainty about professional Overwatch that pushed several other teams recently to drop support for the game.

So far, other big names like Fnatic, Splyce, Team Dignitas, and even Ninjas in Pyjamas have all disbanded their Overwatch teams. Since its reveal, the Overwatch League was criticised for reportedly having unrealistic entry fees, a sticking point that Blizzard denied in May.

If more and more teams continue to take a step back from competitive Overwatch, Blizzard’s plans for the game’s pro league may not be off to the best start.

You're retarded

>ok dudes u heal me and I tank
>now press ur Qs on three..two...one...
>nice job bros we did it
lmao what do the expect with MMO shit balancing

So the whole thread is fake news, great

That's what happens when a competitive scene is artificially made by the publisher by just pumping money into rather than have an actual passionate competitive community formed organically.

If you keep changing the game-meta no one will stick to it. Will Blizzard never learn?

It's dying just in time for Nintendo to step in and dominate it like when vidya died in the West in 1983.

>people get bored with and stop playing shitty games
yeah?
Who's the dumbfuck at Blizzard that thought TIMED UPDATES were a good idea?

But all you do is play for a loot box. How am I dumb for pointing that out?

haha awe shit, pasted the wrong thing.

vg247.com/2017/06/28/overwatch-isnt-making-its-expected-splash-into-esports/

>thinking blizzard games are balanced and competitive
youtube.com/watch?v=gtK9EvhqEIw

People just got burned out on Overwatch too quickly, me thinks. It didn't help that the game has revolved around two incredibly stompy metas for 90% of its life.

People just aren't enthused with the game from a competitive standpoint. It completely inorganic and without character. All Blizzard esport ventures are like this.

This

"competitive overwatch" is literally both teams sit across from each other and do cartwheels and jerk their dick until both sides have ultimates and then you just collide and whoever wins that fight gets to push to the next point/capture that point

It might be the stupidest esport I've ever watched

This is a thread about overwatch not LoL

Overwatch has fuck all content, too bad the reviews already came out, it's not surprising the game is already fucking dying
no new weapons, hardly any new characters, shit balance, hardly any new maps, TIMED UPDATES, shit's a fucking joke.

>tf2 will outlive overwatch

>TIMED UPDATES

I don't play OW. What does this mean?

>stale meta
>sponsors pulling out
>honeymoon period is over

was Sup Forums right is Overwathc going to die?

>esports are dying
Good.

But what about HotS?

Overwatch was a novelty game for the scrubs that never played TF2 and have only played CoD or BF, which is most casuals these days. Not surprising that it would flop once the novelty fades.

It's more like TF2 than they care to admit.

Casual appeal will carry the game but esports will be niche

New Mode X/Map is coming every 3/6/9/12 months for instance

>overwatch

Sadly e-"sports" aren't dieing but an imbalanced piece of trash game is.

this

finally this bubble bursts and developers focus on single player again

So Blizzard's sitting on their thumbs when they should be making concrete plans and their best guess for LANs is sometime in 2018? That's just rediculous.

What about e-sports has you all triggered?

wtf...NiP had an overwatch team? I didn't even know they were an organization I thought it was just a team f0rest made with friends for CSGO.

Blizzard killed esports Overwatch themselves just like they did for Starcraft.

They have a few teams actually

>a bunch of shitter teams that never get results are disbanding their Overwatch teams
>the scene is dying guys
lol. Nobody wants to sponsor a bunch of losers that can never win games, so they drop the teams. Why is this surprising to anybody?

How though?

>esports are dying

No. Blizzard's shitty casualized cash grabs with artificially manufactured e-sports scenes are dying.

CSGO is thriving. LoL is thriving. DotA is thriving.

Do you think a Heroes of the Storm revamp could revive OW?
You gain experience during the game and pick a path for your character.
Down to picking a different ult if you choose to.
Would kinda suck that you couldn't change character though

>fnatic and dignitas
>shitter teams

no

All the low sponsors are disbanding. Overwatch is making room for only the big boys

I haven't played an FPS for more than an hour since CS 1.6 and even I could tell this game was going to be trash from the beta, why are you people so surprised?

Are you 14 years old?

Not surprised you didn't know. They were literally only relevant during tank meta, then promptly stopped winning games the minute it was over.

No shit a game that doesn't require skill is slowly being dropped from serious sponsors who play serious games.

You're fucking dumb, NiP has been around for a long ass time and wasn't made by f0rest at all and certainly not during CSGO. NiP has been around since pre 1.6 days even.

OW doesn't need a revive and all those changes would just hurt the game. Players would revolt and leave on a massive scale.

They are in Overwatch

The disbanded teams took the rainbow pill

>hey guys we got this new stuff
>PLAY NOW BEFORE IT GOES AWAY

Or maybe because Overwatch and SC2 have dead scenes that no one watches?

Is overwatch esports grassroots? i don't play that shit but dont think it was. No diffrent then people moving on to the next new game once money dry

How can anybody stand watching FPS esports? I can understand the moba shit but shooters are easy as shit to master, especially overwatch

The only teams that are relevant are Envyus and rogue, even then they can't compete with the highest Korean teams

The Organizations are good but that doesn't mean their OW teams were.

How can one have such a shit opinion? It's the other way around

Fat fucks thinking they are athletic for playing a video game, and the cult following of a million 12 year old virgins

Overwatch never had a good E-Sports scene. It was forced as fuck for something so casual. Literally a more casual TF2 with MOBA-like skills.

>Fat fucks thinking they are athletic
...where did you get this idea from?

You don't need to be in good shape for it to be a sport, look at golf. Do you even know the definition of a sport? Probably not, you are a fucking retard after all.

You don't know shit, it has a pretty good scene and if blizzard supports it right with league it can explode

Here's an idea.

Split the game up into two games

Quick Play / Arcade version of Overwatch is the piece of shit that it is now

Comp becomes a hardcore mode where dps heroes deal more damage, you lose ult charge on death, and various other tweaks to make the game not a fucking joke, like how McCree has a stun. McCree's flashbang should be a super short duration Sombra-style ability silence.

Money isn't enough to make an esport, see: any esport that isn't Dota, LoL or CS

You underestimate being in good shape

meant to say RTS not moba my bad nigga, fps esports is still shit though

>Esports are usually unfun with a ton of bullshit rules that makes the game unfun by a bunch of skillless hacks who ban/restrict everything
>Developer tries to make a game to please this niche, and boring as fuck crowd
>Some how makes a game that is shit in every way

How does blizzard keep getting away with it?

Too many modes fractures the playerbase. Same way mmos have literal empty maps once the majority of players have outleveled them. Better to rotate content or "evolve" current to keep it relevant.

>people thought a casual console shooter designed to sell waifu skins in gambling boxes was going to become an "e-sport"

only autistic neckbeards believe playing video games can be considered a sport, and they were the ones Blizzard doesn't want and doesn't cater to. They only threw a few bones to the "pros" because Blizzard's marketing budget for any of their games are ENORMOUS and they slather the internet in viral marketing.

S'all good and I totally agree

BUT MUH 6 GORILLION PLAYERS!

this is what you get for charging $40 for a f2p game

But LOL competitive scene is entirely artificial.

The entire pro scene only plays because its free money.

Blizzard are literally putting millions into an Overwatch league

Nice try tho

That doesn't make the game fun.

Good competitive games are fun first, then the scene grows from the community that develops around it, not the developers pumping money into it.

League,Dota 2 and CS:GO keep growing and other e-sports too.

OW is decaying because it's garbage as an e-sport, it's not fun to watch and that's one of the most fundamental parts of e-sports.

>CSGO is thriving. LoL is thriving. DotA is thriving.
All of those have been stagnant for two years now.
E-Sports has peaked.

>Pro players play for money

Really makes me think...

>Good competitive games are fun first, then the scene grows from the community that develops around it, not the developers pumping money into it.
Yeah that's not the case now and hasn't been for years. CSGO and DOTA2's scenes only exist because of the previous games and because of all the money Valve puts into them via loot boxes. LoL was funneled money by Riot after the community begged for tournaments.

>Too many modes fractures the playerbase.
That's why TF2 was able to include a boatload of modes that are still piss easy to find full matches in right?
What the fuck is Overwatches excuse when it has millions compared to TF2s 70k?

LOL's pro scene was entirely because Riot pumped money into it.

Most of them are Dota 1 vets who simply went into the game because it was litterally free money, you get money just for showing up, thats how much money riot pumps into the scene.

iirc all the TF2 pros that jumped ship were doing scrims and shit in beta before competitive mode or anything like it was pushed at all.

>All of those have been stagnant for two years now.

You need to post some kind of proof along that. All the numbers keep going up. The e-sports industry just keeps getting bigger.

youtube.com/watch?v=F_GxPXXLc-w

A large portion of the playerbase just wants to play ranked. To the point that they made seasons a week apart because everyone was complaining that ranked players were taking over QM post season.

You're posting examples of games that have had over a decade to grow.

Though, CS:GO's competitive scene is one of those ones artificially created by Valve, most of the pros would still be playing 1.6

>esports are dying
>implying anybody ever took competitive overwatch seriously in the first place
Actual esport titles like Dota 2 are thriving.
I don't know the condition about other esport titles though since I don't care about them. Dota 2 is the only esport worth watching desu .

Good. Fuck esports. Bring back underground basement tourneys. Way better.

Translation: They lost and probably started blaming each other. Also, no one wants to pay out the ass to compete.

>esports dying because blizzard cant into competitive gaming

>Pendragon makes the biggest dota 1 forum redirect to league
>Dota 1 players were a majority in league

Woah...

Also you need to get to the LCS to get a salary, getting there ain't easy, not so easy free money.

Also the salaries were just a thing after season 2 or 3 I think. Before that most sources of income were by non-Riot tournaments, and most pros agreed that those were garbage.

Wasn't Overwatch supposed to make their own league? Last time I went to their site about it, it still said they were in the in the starting stages, what the fuck happened? It was a huge deal and they even produced a promotional video for it and we haven't heard anything have we?

Not going to watch your shitty youtube video, normal.

Well what do you know... People are realizing that it isn't very exciting to watch people sit and move their fingers a little, compared to a real sport. It was inevitable.

seems like it's hard to find people dumb enough to pay kids to play Overwatch

Just play the game because you want to play the game

Fuck the competitive community

You think people actually give a shit about be FGC either? We just want to play good fighting games

>PPD left the most casual, boring forced esport
Based.
What will this mastermind do next?

They're the best examples I have off the top of my head that are super popular, have a lot of money, and have had accusations of being "artificial" thrown at them.
